The ‘Gundam GQuuuuuuX' Anime Series Gets Off To A Promising Start

Forbes11-04-2025

'Gundam GQuuuuuuX' is now streaming worldwide via Amazon Prime Video.
Following the Gundam GQuuuuuuX movie, Beginning, released earlier this year in Japan, the series has now started, and thus far it is rather promising.
The problem with the movie was that it went hard on the background of the series being a 'what if' switch up from the original Mobile Suit Gundam. Where Char finds the Gundam first, rather than Amuro.
This made the whole thing feel like cheap fanfiction, not least because the Gihren's Greed games had already explored this scenario and created the red Casval Gundam as a result.
Now that the GQuuuuuuX series is here, it sensibly starts much later and deals with current events. Yes, the Red Gundam is present, but its whole backstory is still to be laid out.
Not to mention it all works better having Challia Bull on the bridge of the White Base talking about Char in the past tense, it all fits a lot better in terms of basic narrative construction.
So, now that we are getting into the world of GQuuuuuuX the right way around, it feels more considered and that the pieces fit.
I'm still not really digging Ikuto Yamashita's new mecha designs, as they just look messy and lack any real semblance of form-follows-function for a real robot show.
Admittedly, Gundam originally sat across super robot and real robot design sensibilities, as Kunio Okawara knowingly incorporated samurai elements into the designs, but even then, the GQuuuuuuX mecha seem off, even for their own setting.
I love the characters, though, and it's nice to have some solid FLCL and Diebuster vibes with those.
Talking of Gunbuster, I am pretty sure that the launching 'lights' you see inside the White Base are from the first Gunbuster used when the RX-7s were launched from the Exelion.
Obviously, after the first episode, we still have lots of questions that need answering, such as what's up with the Omega Psychommu and what's a 'Mav,' but thus far, I am enjoying the series a lot more than the movie.

Jared Verse hates Eagles fans, but calls them the best opposing fan base

Before the Rams and Eagles met in the playoffs, Rams linebacker Jared Verse said he hates Eagles fans. Verse hasn't backed off from that, but he also respects the passion of the fans who he says scream obscenities at him from the stands. In an interview with the YouTube channel Whistle, Verse was asked to name the best opposing fan base. 'Probably the Eagles,' Verse answered. 'I've got to give them that. I like when you kind of get into it, you're aggressive, you're loud, and they stand by that with no doubt.' Verse also said the Eagles are the toughest crowd to play in front of in the NFL. 'Playing the Eagles is like playing your rival in college because you never know what they're going to say, and they're going to try to say disrespectful stuff,' Verse said. 'They're going to bring something up. Don't get me wrong, they're not going to say anything where it's like, 'Bro, you crossed a line,' but they're going to say something where you're like, 'Hey, who you talking to?'' Verse will hear it from Eagles fans again in Week Three, when the Rams visit Philadelphia.

Two Colorado freshman to appear in EA Sports' College Football 26

I'm officially In The Game #CFB26 @easportscollege #EAAthlete. #Blessed In the NIL era, players relish the opportunities they receive to make a profit off their name, but there is one deal that might trump any other. That is the ability to play as yourself in a video game, or more specifically, EA Sports' latest installment, College Football 2026. On Friday, incoming Colorado freshmen London Merritt and Mantrez Walker announced they'll be in the soon-to-be-released game. The edge rusher and linebacker confirmed that their name, image and likeness will be included in the game, marking another milestone in their young careers. EA Sports brought back the popular college football franchise last year to widespread excitement from fans and players alike, eager to jump back into the game. New to this year's addition, all 136 Football Bowl Subdivision schools will be paid by EA Sports based on the frequency with which gamers play with their respective team. Real-life coaches are also being added to the game this year. Merritt and Walker are both Georgia natives, with Merritt being a blue-chip prospect once committed to Ohio State. Merritt appears to have significant potential with the Buffs, who lost several key pieces to their defensive line, most notably star defensive end BJ Green. Walker was a three-star prospect who has been with the Buffs for most of the offseason, but he projects as a likely depth piece entering his freshman season. Jake Paul drops $39 million on Georgia's iconic Southlands ranch

Professional boxer, social media influencer and content creator Jake Paul has bought the sprawling Southlands property just south of Bainbridge, Georgia, for $39 million. Paul, during an interview on the "The Iced Coffee Hour" podcast in mid-June, said he's been wanting to purchase a ranch for the last 15 years, according to 'It's kind of been my dream and why I work so hard," said Paul. He added the 5,746-acre estate was '… a little bit bigger than what I wanted, but when I got there, I was like, 'I have to buy this.' ' Paul, 28, is known for his brash commentary on YouTube and other social media platforms and co-stars alongside his brother, Logan Paul, in "Paul American," a reality show that premiered in March 2025 and offers a peek into their family life outside of the boxing and wrestling ring. Logan Paul is a pro wrestler and social media maven. More celebrity real estate: NBA star Kevin Durant's custom Oklahoma City townhome hits the market at $35 In November 2024, Paul went head-to-head against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, 58, and defeated the veteran fighter in a unanimous decision. He was initially slated to receive $40 million for beating the retired boxer. The 5,653-acre property surrounds the eastern shore of Lake Seminole, just above the Florida panhandle, and was listed in October 2024 for $42.5 million. It features a "sport huntsman's paradise with an abundance of bobwhite wild quail, turkey and whitetail deer. It also includes a 20-acre fishing pond and a 30-acre duck pond," as previously reported in the Tallahassee Democrat, part of the USA TODAY Network. Jon Kohler, an expert in large plantation properties in the southeast, said there are few investments that can build "long-term wealth like owning a property such as Southlands." "While we can see the financial appreciation, what only the seller can measure is the immense intrinsic value – the lifestyle, the experiences, the memories. That's the most important kind of wealth. And that's what Southlands will create for Jake, his family, and his friends," said Kohler, in a statement. In a Facebook post announcing the purchase, Kohler described the property as "one of America's most iconic sporting properties." "From its roots with Herbert Stoddard, a legacy dating back to 1937, to its years as International Paper's flagship property, Southlands has long been a crown jewel of American land stewardship – and with Jake Paul's passion and commitment to conservation, its future has never been brighter," the post said.
