JSR medical college's new building reports seepages
The G+7 structure, which was built at a cost of Rs 386 crore, suffered water seepage on its walls and chambers at the outpatient department (OPD) complex since the onset of monsoon last month. Puddles have also developed in many places across ENT, orthopaedic, eye and medicine chambers, hospital staff and patients have claimed.
On Friday, the false ceiling at the psychiatric OPD room collapsed. None was hurt. Built by Larsen & Toubro, the building has provisions for 751 beds.
Water seepage in an operation theatre forced surgeons to call off a scheduled surgery last week. "After one surgery at the ENT OT was shelved on Friday, another surgery at the orthopaedic OT was called off on July 5," MGMMCH principal Dr Diwakar Hansda, said.
"We have asked the heads of departments (HoDs) to conduct a physical survey of their respective chambers and the OTs and submit a report. We will send the report to the senior authorities in the department for appropriate action," Dr Hansda said.

"The contractor claimed that leakages surfaced in the building after installation of the centralised air-conditioning facility. This is not a satisfactory answer. Monsoon rains will continue for three months. Hence, the contractor was asked to fix the leaks and seepages at the earliest. We will not take complete possession of the building before the defects are fixed," Dr Hansda added.
L&T bagged the contract for the project from the state building construction department in 2019.
Chief minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the building ahead of the state assembly election last year. Health minister Irfan Ansari directed the MGMMCH management to relocate from its existing facility in Sakchi to the new premises in Dimna after a balcony of the Sakchi premises collapsed and killed four people on May 3.
The MGMMCH had set a deadline of shifting to the new building completely by July 15.
"Almost all the departments have been shifted. The process of shifting the emergency ward, medicine ward, dressing room to the new building is on. We hope to meet the deadline," Hansda said.

‘Toxic RO Water Sold Under the Guise of Purity,' Alleges Ex-Minister Raut in Assembly
Nagpur: Senior Congress leader and former minister Nitin Raut on Monday accused private operators in Nagpur and other cities of selling contaminated water under the guise of 'RO purified' bottled water, thereby endangering public health. Raising the issue during the monsoon session of the state legislature, he demanded urgent action against such bogus companies and questioned the lack of regulatory enforcement. The demand received support from BJP MLAs as well, with Pravin Datke and Suresh Dhas calling for a crackdown on such practices. "Clean drinking water is a fundamental right, not a privilege. We cannot allow profiteering at the cost of public health," they said. Raut alleged that citizens are unknowingly consuming contaminated water at weddings, festivals, and even on a daily basis through jar deliveries from illegal plants operating in city lanes. "These operators fill water from wells, package it, and sell it without any transparency due to a lack of monitoring," he said. He further claimed that several such enterprises operate without the mandatory no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) or other competent local bodies. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Despite the law requiring clearance before setting up bottling plants, many companies flout regulations in connivance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials. There is a dangerous nexus, and public health is being compromised," he alleged. The North Nagpur MLA cited multiple cases of waterborne illnesses reported in recent months, blaming the unregulated supply chain. "Municipal corporations have conveniently looked the other way, claiming they lack the authority to act. Meanwhile, groundwater is being depleted, and people are falling ill," he added. FDA minister Narhari Zirwal admitted to gaps in enforcement and assured strict action. "All municipal corporations will be directed to take action. We will also soon convene a meeting of legislators on this issue," he said. Raut concluded by urging the state government to publish an immediate action plan to prevent further public exposure to contaminated water and to prosecute those illegally operating under the 'RO' label.

IMA Nagpur Protests MMC Move Allowing Homeopaths To Register As Allopaths
1 2 3 Nagpur: A joint delegation of doctors led by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Nagpur, submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the district collector's office, strongly opposing a recent decision of the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) allowing homeopathic doctors to register as allopathic practitioners. The representation was handed over to Anup Khande, resident district collector (RDC), Nagpur. The memorandum, signed by IMA Nagpur president Dr Rajesh Sawarbandhe and secretary Dr Jitendra Sahu, warns that the MMC's notification dated June 30, allowing homeopaths who complete a short 'Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP)' to register under MMC, poses a serious threat to public health and patient safety. "The MMC was created exclusively to regulate MBBS and higher qualified allopathic doctors. Permitting lateral entry from a completely different system undermines medical ethics and public trust," the memorandum states. It adds that the one-year CCMP course cannot equate to years of rigorous MBBS education and clinical training. Several other medical associations, including NOGS, AMF, AMS, and the Anaesthesiology Society, also submitted similar memoranda to Khande, highlighting a unified stance from the allopathic fraternity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The IMA demanded immediate withdrawal of the notification and warned of a 24-hour withdrawal of non-emergency health services on July 11 if the demand is not met. "We respect homeopathy as a separate system. But mixing regulatory frameworks is unsafe and unacceptable," the doctors stressed. The delegation urged the chief minister to protect the sanctity of the MMC and ensure that homeopathic doctors continue to be governed by their own council.
