JSR medical college's new building reports seepages

Jamshedpur: The newly built building of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) has developed leaks and seepage even before the medical services are yet to become fully operational at the facility. The G+7 structure, which was built at a cost of Rs 386 crore, suffered water seepage on its walls and chambers at the outpatient department (OPD) complex since the onset of monsoon last month. Puddles have also developed in many places across ENT, orthopaedic, eye and medicine chambers, hospital staff and patients have claimed. On Friday, the false ceiling at the psychiatric OPD room collapsed. None was hurt. Built by Larsen & Toubro, the building has provisions for 751 beds. Water seepage in an operation theatre forced surgeons to call off a scheduled surgery last week. "After one surgery at the ENT OT was shelved on Friday, another surgery at the orthopaedic OT was called off on July 5," MGMMCH principal Dr Diwakar Hansda, said. "We have asked the heads of departments (HoDs) to conduct a physical survey of their respective chambers and the OTs and submit a report. We will send the report to the senior authorities in the department for appropriate action," Dr Hansda said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like You Won't Believe the Price of These Dubai Apartments Binghatti Developers FZE Get Offer Undo "The contractor claimed that leakages surfaced in the building after installation of the centralised air-conditioning facility. This is not a satisfactory answer. Monsoon rains will continue for three months. Hence, the contractor was asked to fix the leaks and seepages at the earliest. We will not take complete possession of the building before the defects are fixed," Dr Hansda added. L&T bagged the contract for the project from the state building construction department in 2019. Chief minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the building ahead of the state assembly election last year. Health minister Irfan Ansari directed the MGMMCH management to relocate from its existing facility in Sakchi to the new premises in Dimna after a balcony of the Sakchi premises collapsed and killed four people on May 3. The MGMMCH had set a deadline of shifting to the new building completely by July 15. "Almost all the departments have been shifted. The process of shifting the emergency ward, medicine ward, dressing room to the new building is on. We hope to meet the deadline," Hansda said.

MGMMCH students to adopt 500 ST families to fight witch-hunting

1 2 3 Jamshedpur: Around 100 MBBS students of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) would adopt 500 scheduled tribe (ST) families living in the backward villages of the three districts under the Kolhan division to generate awareness against witch-hunting in June. The students would identify the villages, where witch-hunting cases have been reported, and meet the survivors. They would also meet the indigenous community heads of far-flung underdeveloped areas to understand the steps taken by the community to curb the evil practice. MGMMCH principal Dr Diwakar Hansda said, "Each student would adopt five families and educate them about the inhuman practice, which is a criminal act. Nine blocks in the three districts of Kolhan division have been chosen in the first phase." Further, teams of students would interact with the community members, understand their thoughts about witchcraft and their action in an individual capacity to curb the practice. "The problem of witch-hunting has its roots in superstitious beliefs, fear, and cultural beliefs. The students will keep this point in mind and prepare a roadmap to accomplish the task," he added. Besides educating the villagers, the would-be doctors would also conduct health check-ups of the members of the adopted families and suggest diagnosis, if required. The MGMMCH management has taken the initiative of educating the tribal villagers in accordance with the direction of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the principal said. E S'bhum readies isolation wards to tackle Covid cases

1 2 Jamshedpur: Anticipating a surge in Covid 19 cases which might require hospitalisation, the East Singhbhum health department has begun readying dedicated wards in two govt owned hospitals in the city. Officials here on Saturday said a 10-bed Covid 19 ward has been set up at Jamshedpur sadar hospital. That apart, another 16 beds have been reserved as a Covid 19 isolation ward in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH). "The 16 bedded ward is being readied at the old building in Sakchi, where beds are equipped with oxygen. The oxygen plant at our facility is also working," Dr Diwakar Hansda, principal of MGMMCH, said. "That apart, mock drill to check the readiness of pressure swing absorption (PSA) oxygen plants across govt hospitals across the district, including sadar hospital, MGMMCH, Ghatshila sub-divisional hospital and Chakulia govt hospital, were carried out on Saturday," East Singhbhum civil surgeon Dr said. Pall said drill was part of the exercise to put the system and the officials on the ready mode. "We have identified some lacking in the response system which would be addressed shortly," he said, but did not divulge further details. Pall said private hospitals were asked to keep a ward ready for the Covid patients and make sure that all necessary facilities for the treatment are in place. The hospitals have been asked to immediately report to the district integrated disease surveillance cell about suspected cases so that tests could be done without delays. The department has also asked the healthcare centres to put up posters at the OPDs to create awareness. Meanwhile, a Kadma based couple, who tested positive in RAT test earlier, tested negative in the RT-PCR test, which was done at MGMMCH on Saturday, Pall said.

‘Shift to new MGM campus almost over'

Jamshedpur: The shifting process of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) is almost over with the offices of the hospital superintendent, his deputy, and heads of department reporting from the new on-campus building at Dimna on Monday. The outpatient departments (OPD) of heart, paediatric, burn, eye, skin, ENT, and general medicine have shifted. "Given that some of the departments are in the process of shifting, the superintendent and I are rotating ourselves, devoting equal time at the old and new buildings so that people don't face problem in approaching us in the event of urgency," said deputy superintendent Nakul Chaudhary. He further said that in the next week, the gynaecology, orthopaedic, and surgery departments will be shifted to the new building, and subsequent to that, the emergency department will be shifted. "In about two weeks, all the departments will be shifted to the new building," he said. The exercise to shift the entire healthcare services departments to the on-campus building witnessed a pace-up following the tragic incident on May 3, in which four people, including three patients, died after the balcony of the medicine block collapsed. The multi-storey healthcare building is designed to provide consultancy and treatment at 12 departments. The state govt built the 851-bed capacity hospital at a cost of Rs 376 crore.
