Auburn makes the top eight for four-star forward Jalan Wingfield

Auburn and head coach Bruce Pearl are making quite an impression on a four-star forward from Atlanta. We have reached the point in the year when college basketball recruiting begins to heat up. As usual, Auburn is in the mix to land one of the nation's top forwards. Jalan Wingfield, a four-star power forward from Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia, released his top eight choices this week, which included the Auburn Tigers. Bruce Pearl and the Tigers will compete with Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt going forward. Wingfield took time to break down his top eight schools with Joe Tipton of Rivals. He tells Tipton that FSU has the "hometown" feel due to the proximity of Tallahassee to his hometown of Thomasville, Georgia, and that Georgia Tech is special because Yellow Jackets head coach Damon Stoudamire played with his dad, Dontonio Wingfield, in the NBA. When it comes to Auburn, Wingfield recalls Pearl's persistence of developing a relationship with him stands out. 'Bruce Pearl, he's at every one of my AAU games. Courtside. Every time he sees me, he acknowledges me, asks me how I'm doing. Tells me Auburn loves me. So, I would say they play a big part, too, also.' Wingfield is a 6-7 power forward that has "great length and a projectable frame," according to a scouting report by Jamie Shaw of Rivals. He is the No. 14 power forward for the 2026 class according to Rivals' Industry Rankings, and is the No. 7 player from Georgia. Nebraska football to sell alcohol at Memorial Stadium during Saturday's Big Red Preview

The Nebraska football team is one step closer to the 2025 season with its annual Fan Day, followed by its Big Red Preview on Saturday. Nebraska athletics also announced that fans can purchase alcohol during the Big Red Preview. This is the first time ever that alcohol is being sold at a Nebraska football event and just the third time ever at Memorial Stadium. A Garth Brooks concert and Volleyball Day in Nebraska sold alcohol at Memorial Stadium with approval from the school. The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved the sale of alcohol at Memorial Stadium and the Devaney Center this past October, expanding beyond Nebraska basketball, baseball, and softball. The Big Red Preview is an open practice for the team, their sixth practice of the preseason camp. It is also the team's first practice in full pads, and fans will see the team in action on Memorial Stadium's brand-new playing surface. Concessions and drinks, including beer, will be available on the main concourse of West Stadium and on field level in North Stadium during the Big Red Preview. The event is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Prior to the open practice, the team is holding its annual Fan Day in the afternoon, where fans can interact with the players in a free event and receive autographs. Mets on verge of pressing gas pedal before trade deadline

The post Mets on verge of pressing gas pedal before trade deadline appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Mets, currently leading the NL East standings, are preparing to intensify trade talks ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline. With a 60-44 record and a slim half-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies, the club is entering a crucial stretch that could determine whether they secure their first division title since 2015. The urgency comes directly from the front office. The New York Post's Mike Puma took to his X account (formerly known as Twitter) and reported that internal discussions are scheduled to escalate in the coming days. 'With several teams on the bubble as buyers/sellers, Mets officials view this weekend as a decision point for many. Team brass plans to ramp up the process beginning Sunday night, when more specific trade targets and scenarios will start being discussed among club officials.' This signals a shift in tone for the Mets trade rumors landscape. With the trade deadline coming up this Thursday, New York is done evaluating. Now, they're preparing to act. The David Stearns regime has already shown a willingness to buy, sending two prospects to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for reliever Gregory Soto Friday night. But there's a sense that move was just the beginning. Rumors and fan replies to Puma's tweet speculate about possible additions like Luis Robert Jr. or a reunion with Harrison Bader. With the MLB trade deadline fast approaching, Stearns' next move could define the franchise's season. Their current positioning—leading the NL East standings, riding a 7-3 stretch over their last ten games, and 37-16 at home—adds more pressure to maximize this window. Another bat or frontline starter could separate them from the Phillies and provide October insurance. As Puma noted, New York's strategy may hinge on how bubble teams perform this weekend. Sellers like the Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates could be pivotal trade partners if they fall further from contention. The Mets are believed to be monitoring that closely, ready to strike as soon as conditions align. The front office, led by Stearns, has the prospect capital and financial backing to make an aggressive push. Whether they prioritize an outfield upgrade, rotation depth, or another bullpen arm, they have the assets—and the motivation. A strong showing at the MLB trade deadline would also serve as a vote of confidence in the current roster. Players like Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo have already commented on how much trust they have in leadership. That belief could turn into real momentum if reinforcements arrive. If the Mets press the gas now, they'll not only cement their spot in the playoff picture—they could become legitimate contenders to break their 10-year division title drought.
