Malcolm Jamal Warner's powerful 'last message' leaves fans heartbroken
The late Cosby Show star died aged 54 after drowning on a family holiday in Costa Rica earlier this week with tributes pouring in from across Hollywood from his former colleagues, friends and fans.
He rose to fame for his portrayal of Theo Huxtable, the son of Bill Cosby's character Heathcliff Huxtable, in the sitcom, which ran from 1984 to 1992, ultimately securing him an Emmy nomination aged 16.
In recent years, the screen star has appeared in 911 as Amir Casey and Fox show The Resident as Dr AJ Austin.
He also hosted the podcast Not All Hood, which took 'a provocative look at the vastly different lived experiences and identities of Blacks in America'.
In his last personalised video to his 768k followers just weeks ago, he spoke about finding the joy in life. https://www.instagram.com/p/DJp5yE3NYD5/
The video starts with the father-of-one driving his car on a sunny day in Atlanta with a flower tucked behind his ear after it was given to him by his daughter on her birthday.
He tells the camera: 'I just wanted to spread some love and good cheer. You know, life is out here life-ing for me and for everybody else but just wanted to remind you as I remind myself that no matter what's going on, there's always a reason to smile.
'If you just take a minute to stop, take stock, I guarantee you can find at least one reason to smile. And if for some reason you can't find a reason to smile then that's probably the best time to be the reason for somebody else to smile.
He wrapped up the video by saying 'peace and love and I'll be back soon'.
His caption doubles down on the sweet message, adding: 'Be the reason someone smiles today…. or even tomorrow. Sending love to my IG fam. #blessingsabound.'
'What a guy, such a lovely person. This one really hurts. I loved watching The Cosby Show, I always felt that Malcom was a very gifted, loving person, Rest In Power,' X user @thelifeofakat wrote.
'Oh man, what a wonderful message to leave behind!' @iowakingsfan_tj added.
'We lost a good person. This is a beautiful message,' @jabarnes said.
Over on Instagram, user mscgray shared: 'Heartbroken over this. Thank you for making such an impact on our lives.'
'Thank you for that reminder, Malcolm, and for always giving me lots of laughs back in the day! May you rest in peace always,' jenny_ann_wf echoed.
Several high-profile figures have shared their condolences including Beyonce, who posted a tribute on her website remembering him for 'being a shared part of our television history.' More Trending
Cosby Show co-star Geoffery Owens described Warner as 'a lovely man; a sweet and sensitive soul'.
He continued: 'I respected him for many reasons, including the fact that he genuinely loved the act of creation. 'He had the mind of an actor and the heart of a musician. He was generous, too.'
Other stars such as Tracee Ellis Ross, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jamie Foxx and Bill Cosby also shared messages remembering his legacy.

World War II series based on 'one of the greatest books ever' is now available to stream
The 2019 drama series features a stellar cast and is a 'wonderful rendering of the classic satirical novel' A "must-watch" World War II series is currently available to stream. The gripping drama features an ensemble cast and is based on "one of the greatest books ever written". Telly fans are being urged to make sure to catch the mini-series while it is readily available, with viewers hailing the "amazing" cast and "wonderful" retelling of the book. Hulu series Catch-22 first appeared on the small screen in 2019, as an adaptation of Joseph Heller's celebrated 1961 novel of the same name. The series follows the journey of Captain John Yossarian (played by Christopher Abbott) and his comrades during World War II as they carry out their duties for their country. Their freedom depends on finishing a set number of operations. Yet, precisely when they approach their liberation, the mission tally is consistently raised, throwing them back into danger, reports the Express. The ensemble cast also features George Clooney as Scheisskopf, Emmy-winning Argo star Kyle Chandler as Colonel Cathcart, Godfather of Harlem's Rafi Gavron as Aarfy, Reacher's Daniel David Stewart as Milo, and Major Crimes' Graham Patrick Martin as Orr, amongst others. One TV fan gave the show a 10/10 rating on IMDb. They said: "Fantastic. The entire cast of this series is amazing. "It has all the drama and humor but not as slapstick as the movie. I've been glued to the TV since it was released. You will fall in love with these characters and the actors who portray them." A second viewer commented: "Wonderful rendering of the classic satirical novel. This is a very enjoyable watch, especially if you read the book and saw the movie. "The acting is superb and the battle scenes are realistic but not too graphically violent. I appreciate a director and writer who do not feel they must gross us out at every turn. It has a nice subtlety and that was lacking in the original movie." Another reviewer praised it as: "One of the greatest books ever written, certainly as an anti-war film." Speaking about Abbott's performance as John Yossarian, they added: "His face is so emotive and he captured the complexity of his character." Wrapping up, they wrote: "For those of you who totally missed the point and were expecting a regular war movie, did you get what the title means?" A fourth viewer hailed it as "a must watch" and said: "Perfect mix of comedy and drama. Made me laugh one second and get emotional the next." Apple TV+ free trial £8.99 £0 Apple Buy Now on Apple Product Description The phrase Catch-22 represents Captain Yossarian's hopeless efforts to escape the battlefield by pretending to be mad, only to discover that those who are truly mentally unstable will continue with their assignments. Beyond his acting role in Catch-22, Clooney worked as an executive producer on the series and directed two of the six episodes. This 2019 version of Catch-22 comes after a 1970 cinema adaptation, with the latest television series securing an 84 per cent fresh score from critics and an 82 per cent approval rating from viewers. Catch-22 is currently available for streaming on Prime Video and Apple TV+. At the end of last month, the star wanted to make sure her little girl knew how special she was, and posted a heartbreaking video montage of Aurelia growing up – starting in the arms of The Wanted star Tom as a tiny baby. Kelsey wrote alongside the video: "Aurelia means 'The Golden One' and that's what you are 🤍 you've been through so much my darling daughter, but you're the most precious little girl any mummy could wish for. "I'm so happy we got to spend this weekend celebrating your birthday and turning another year older. Devastated Kelsey Parker announces tragic death of baby who was 'born sleeping' just a week before due date "I'm beyond proud of you and the amazing young woman you're growing up to be." The phoenix bird symbolises immortality, resurrection and life after death. She added next to the poem: "Before I receive an influx of lovely messages and heartfelt well wishes, I want to just say that I truly appreciate everything you are all going to say and share. "But with the news being so raw, I would really like to ensure that we as a family are given space and time to process this devastating and earth-shattering news. "I love you all and thank you for your understanding and space." Phoenix was her first child with boyfriend Will, whom she started dating last September. At the time, Kelsey said she knew late husband Tom would 'send the right man for her.'
