
Central University of Punjab gets ₹200 crore infra push
The event was part of a nationwide initiative to launch infrastructure development projects at centrally funded higher education institutions.
The virtual ceremony took place during the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam 2025 (ABSS-2025), held in New Delhi to mark the fifth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains attended the event.
Raghavendra P Tiwari, vice-chancellor of the varsity, said the funds will be used for key infrastructure development on the campus. 'The proposed projects include a new academic block, hostels accommodating 600 boys and 400 girls, a 100-bedded hostel for international students, and an official residence for the vice-chancellor,' Tiwari said.

Delhi, Maharashtra and Chandigarh have emerged as frontrunners in NITI Aayog's first India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI). Released on Monday, the IEMI tracks, evaluates and scores all Indian states and UTs out of 100 across 16 indicators under three-core themes: Transport Electrification Progress to capture demand-side adoption, Charging Infrastructure Readiness to track allied charging infrastructure development and EV Research and Innovation Status which covers supply-side ecosystem R&D efforts. In transport electrification, Delhi and Maharashtra are the frontrunners, while Haryana, Karnataka, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh lead in charging infrastructure readiness. In terms of EV research and innovation, Niti Aayog said Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana and Telangana stand out as frontruners. Niti Aayog stated that IEMI enables evaluation across states and Union territories, identifying key drivers of success as well as areas requiring targeted interventions. The index aims to inform decision-making, foster healthy competition among states, and promote the sharing of best practices.

TDP MPs urge Centre to expedite P&NG proposals, extend support under Green Energy Corridor
Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party (TDPP) leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu has urged Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri to expedite approvals for three key proposals submitted by the Andhra Pradesh government in the petroleum and gas sector. In a letter to the Union Minister on Monday, Mr. Krishna Devarayalu said the proposals were crucial for driving economic growth, strengthening energy infrastructure, and delivering social welfare benefits in the State. The proposals include establishment of a BPCL refinery at Ramayapatnam, consideration of Hindustan Shipyard Limited for the ONGC jack-up rig contract and inclusion of all 65.4 lakh active Deepam beneficiaries in Andhra Pradesh under the PM Ujjwala Yojana He pointed out that these initiatives align with national priorities such as energy security, local manufacturing, and inclusive welfare. Meanwhile, Mr. Krishna Devarayalu, along with TDP MPs K. Rammohan Naidu and others, met Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi to seek support for Andhra Pradesh under the Green Energy Corridor (GEC-III) scheme. The MPs urged the Union Minister to fast-track the approval process, highlighting Andhra Pradesh's ambitious target of achieving 72 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2029 to meet a projected power demand of 30,975 MW by FY 2036–37. Stressing the need to strengthen the State's transmission infrastructure to enable clean energy integration, the delegation expressed concern over delays in the release of GEC-III funding and called for immediate action.

New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also holds the Co-operation portfolio, congratulated Repco Bank for posting record profits in the financial year 2024-25. "Heartiest congratulations to Team Repco Bank for posting a profit of ₹ 140 crore in the financial year 2024-25, which is the highest in the history of the cooperative society," the Union minister posted on X. (REPCO BANK) was registered on November 19, 1969, as a cooperative society under the relevant provisions of the Madras Cooperative Societies Act, 1961, with jurisdiction over the State of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Today, on behalf of the MHA, the Minister received a dividend check of ₹ 22.90 crore from top officials of the Bank.
