Robert Kraft makes promise to Patriots fans after three losing seasons
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft made a promise to fans ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
That promise comes on the heels of the team hiring Mike Vrabel as its new head coach and upgrading at various roster positions after back-to-back 4-13 regular season finishes.
When appearing on The Adam Schefter Podcast, Kraft pointed to the team's active free agency and 2025 NFL draft as reasons for fans to be optimistic this year.
'We have a new coach in Mike Vrabel who is really connected with the players, who's doing great work," said Kraft. "We have a young quarterback and a lot of great veterans—free agent veterans who came in. A great draft class. We're gonna have fun this year, I promise.'
There haven't been many reasons to be optimistic about the Patriots in recent years.
They have not made the playoffs since the 2021 season, and they have endured losing records in three consecutive years. To take things a step further, they haven't even won a playoff game since their Super Bowl LIII victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
There is a sense of change with the arrival of Vrabel and a more experienced coaching staff. Quarterback Drake Maye looks like he could be a future standout, and the team has done a much better job of surrounding him with the necessary talent to be successful.
Perhaps this will be the year when the Patriots finally take flight.

Tyreek Hill ready to 'change the narrative' surrounding Dolphins
As the 2025 NFL season approaches, star Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill said it's time for Miami to change the storylines that surround the franchise. During a recent appearance on the "Glory Daze" podcast with Johnny Manziel from the Fanatics Fest in NYC, Hill commented on the urgency he feels heading into 2025. "This year as one of the leaders, I told the guys, it's time to change who we are as a team. It's time to change the narrative about we are not able to play in cold weather, we are not a physical team. So, I'm tired of that narrative. I'm tired of living behind not being able to go to the playoffs and win in Miami, because we got a damn good team. "We got a good quarterback, we got a good offensive lineman and we got some good coaches and we got some good people in the community who deserve to be a part of that. So, I feel like this is the year that we change all of that," Hill said. Trade talks have encompassed Miami cornerback Jalen Ramsey's offseason. During his podcast appearance with Manziel, Hill discussed how he was gearing up to put the "full court press" on recruiting Ramsey back to South Beach. Hill knows that Ramsey remaining with the Dolphins puts Miami in the best position to accomplish some of the team goals that Hill was talking about alongside Manziel. But, it's also because Hill doesn't want Ramsey to miss out on that moment when postseason success does happen for Miami. "I'm really hoping that we sign Jalen Ramsey back, because he's a great leader on the defensive side of the ball. And just being able to do something special in Miami and win a playoff game after 25 years, I think that's something that he doesn't want to miss out on. "We got to get to that. That's something that I talk to my Mom about every day. I take pride in that. Being one of the leaders on this team, I not only want to do it for myself, man, but I want to do it for the fans. I want to do it for the community of Miami, because it's special to me. I don't know, man. It's just something different about me. I just feel different. I just feel like if I don't do it, I'm basically just collecting a check, and I don't want to feel like that," Hill said. At times throughout the first two seasons of Mike McDaniel's run in Miami, it felt and looked like the Dolphins were primed to turn the postseason corner. But, Miami stumbled through a five-game losing streak late in the 2022 season. And then the Dolphins were without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in a 34-31 AFC Wild Card loss at Buffalo as Tagovailoa missed the final two games of the season with a second concussion. In 2023, the Dolphins raced out to a 5-1 record and put up 70 points in a Week 3 win over Denver. The Dolphins were 11-4 before dropping their final two regular season games at Baltimore and versus Buffalo. Miami's loss at Baltimore was a laugher, 56-19. Then, at a frosty Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Miami suffered a 26-7 loss against the Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card round once more. At the time, it was the Dolphins' 11th straight loss when game-time temps were 40 degrees or less. In 2024, Tagovailoa's injury absences dug the Dolphins too deep a hole to climb out of as Miami finished 8-9. Now, with 2025 training camp nearing, Hill seems locked back in to steering the Dolphins to a place they haven't been in 25 years.

Some interesting player comps for Jayden Daniels and other second-year QBs
Speculation is rampant concerning Commanders' QB Jayden Daniels and the other second-year NFL quarterbacks. Pro Football Focus produced this week their projections for the NFL rookie class of quarterbacks from 2024. The question they posed was what the ceiling and floor would be for these second-year quarterbacks. The ceiling for Jayden Daniels was extremely high, and it is no doubt that the Commanders would love for Daniels to have a year similar to what Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson has enjoyed, resulting in multiple NFL Most Valuable Player awards. Advertisement Here is the PFF List, and where they were drafted in 2024: Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears (1 overall) Ceiling - Jordan Love, Floor - Bust Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders (2 overall) Ceiling - Lamar Jackson, Floor - Kyler Murray Drake Maye, New England Patriots (3 overall) Ceiling - Trevor Lawrence, Floor - Daniel Jones Michael Penix Jr, Atlanta Falcons (8 overall) Ceiling - Justin Herbert, Floor - Jameis Winston Ceiling - Joe Burrow, Floor - Sam Darnold Bo Nix, Denver Broncos (12 overall) Ceiling - Drew Brees, Floor - Mac Jones PFF is already ready to think Caleb Williams might be a bust this soon? More importantly, his TD/INT ratio was 25:9, and while passing for 3,568 yards, he also completed 69 percent of his passes. Drake Maye's ceiling may say more about how PFF views Trevor Lawrence and Daniel Jones. Interestingly, both comps for Michael Penix, Jr., are also guys who can really throw the ball down the field. Seeing that he never played a down last year, and will be taking his first NFL regular season snaps this season, what evidence did PFF have to suggest the ceiling for J.J. McCarthy would be one of the NFL's top passers, Joe Burrow? In addition, Sam Darnold had his career-best year last year, and that is McCarthy's floor? All the other ceilings were current NFL quarterbacks. Perhaps PFF simply is trying to be cute because Sean Payton coached both Brees and Nix? Looking back to Memphis for Steelers WR Calvin Austin III breakout season
When wide receiver Calvin Austin III was preparing for the 2022 NFL draft, it was his 4.32-second 40-yard dash that stole the headlines. But when the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Austin in the fourth round, they did it because he proved to be a complete player, not just a deep threat. Now it is 2025 and Austin is coming off of his best year as a pro, is fully healthy and eyeing a spot in the starting lineup, we look back to his final two seasons at Memphis to get an idea of what Pittsburgh is hoping for should Austin be in the starting lineup with DK Metcalf. Advertisement Austin caught 137 passes for 2,002 yards and 20 total touchdowns in his final two seasons. The bulk of the memphis offense ran through Austin and every opposing defense knew he was the top target and they couldn't slow him down. This was despite only being 5-foot-9 and at the time somewhere in the neighborhook of 165 pounds. In 2021, Austin caught 74 passes and the next-best receiver on the team caught just 29 passes. The Steelers are hoping to get that version of Austin this season as he assumes a much heavier workload in an offense short-handed at wide receiver.
