Robert Kraft's true feelings on last two years under Bill Belichick, Jerod Mayo
Patriots owner Robert Kraft: 'The last two years were the worst 31 years of my ownership. We have to change that.'More with Kraft, plus a conversation with @realchriswebber:🎧 New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft openly admitted that the team needs to change after back-to-back regular season finishes with a 4-13 record. He even went as far as calling the last two years the worst years in his 31 years of ownership over the Patriots. Bill Belichick was in his final year as head coach when the team fell off a cliff in 2023. Then Jerod Mayo, a first-year head coach, was brought in and expected to clean up the mess. Things didn't turn out well for him. The rising young coach was quickly fired at the end of the season, with Kraft admitting he was put in an "untenable" situation. "The last two years were the worst years of my 31 years of ownership. We have to change that," said Kraft, when appearing on The Adam Schefter Podcast. There is hope that the Patriots can finally turn their luck around with the arrival of coach Mike Vrabel. The team has put a more experienced coaching staff in place, while also making significant roster upgrades on both offense and defense. They also still have a promising young quarterback with Drake Maye under center. Perhaps these ingredients will finally yield the success that Kraft and fans desperately want right now. Robert Kraft reveals greatest moment in Patriots history
There have been numerous memorable moments for the New England Patriots throughout the franchise's history. When you think of all of the Super Bowl titles, epic playoff games and major divisional victories, it's hard to pick just one moment as the best. Patriots owner Robert Kraft couldn't name his favorite Super Bowl because they're all special in their own right, but he did offer up his greatest moment with the team. That moment was at Super Bowl XXXVI when the underdog Patriots defeated the St. Louis Rams and "The Greatest Show on Turf." It was February 3, 2002. The Patriots went head-to-head with a stalwart Rams team that included the likes of quarterback Kurt Warner, running back Marshall Faulk and wide receivers Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt. Offensively, the Rams were a juggernaut, averaging 31.4 points per game and 418.1 yards per game. They recorded 503 total points and 6,930 offensive yards. 'Well, there's one thing about when you dream of owning a team, and then you want to win," Kraft told ESPN's Adam Schefter on The Adam Schefter Podcast. "When we went to the Super Bowl in the 2001 season, four months after 9/11, and the country was so messed up, and we were the largest underdog against 'The Greatest Show on Turf', the St. Louis Rams. I'll never forget seeing the clock tick down as Adam Vinatieri makes the kick as time runs out, and we win the Super Bowl. It was just unbelievable." The Patriots upsetting the Rams was a magical moment because it kick-started the greatest dynasty in NFL history. It was also the first Super Bowl win for legendary quarterback Tom Brady and kicker Adam Vinatieri. That moment was extra special because it signaled that Kraft and the Patriots had finally made it. They became a championship team. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

Bills Receive Another Unfortunate Update on James Cook
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Buffalo Bills will enter the 2025 NFL season with hopes of winning a Super Bowl. After losing in the AFC title game again, Buffalo is looking for some redemption to finally get over the hump. More NFL news: Steelers Linked to Possible Trade With Packers for Aaron Rodgers Support This Bills team is very good, and many around the league see them as a true title threat. But the team is currently dealing with an ongoing situation with star running back James Cook. Cook is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and he wants an extension from Buffalo. However, the two sides haven't been remotely close on a new deal, and it has led to a lot of frustration from Cook's side. Due to this, there has been a lot of speculation around his future with the team. During a recent edition of "The Adam Schefter Podcast," the NFL insider shared an unfortunate update on the situation. "You've got a guy who's unhappy with his contractual situation," Schefter said. "(He) has basically disconnected himself from the organization and the city, put his house up for sale...I don't think we'll be seeing him in Buffalo anytime soon. Again, the start of training camp will be the next critical moment. If they don't have a deal done there or by then, does James Cook show up for training camp? Does he risk the penalties that come along in the collective bargaining agreement if he doesn't show up?" More Photo by Bryan M. Bennett/Getty Images If Cook comes to training camp, there is a chance he could play out the year and then earn a contract. It could be similar to how star wide-out Tee Higgins handled things with the Cincinnati Bengals last year. But if he doesn't show up, the Bills may need to look elsewhere for the season. Cook was crucial to the Bulls' offensive attack last season, so losing him would be a major hit to Buffalo. However, he wants a new deal and seems to be dead set on making it happen. Buffalo may need to trade him if things don't get settled to avoid any distractions around the rest of the team. Last season, the running back rushed for 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns. Cook also caught 32 passes for 258 yards and two scores. James Cook, Bills Contract Standoff Receives Harsh Update
James Cook, Bills Contract Standoff Receives Harsh Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills entered the new NFL year with a big question to answer. James Cook is coming off his best season after posting 207 carries, racking up 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns in 16 games. Advertisement He went from being a strong force to a scoring machine, helping the Bills play in the AFC championship game, where the Kansas City Chiefs stopped them again. Amid an offseason in which the team gave Josh Allen a new $330 million contract and extended several members of the 2022 class, including linebacker Terrel Bernard, wide receiver Khalil Shakir and cornerback Christian Benford, Cook expressed his desire to win $15 million per campaign, as he entered his final year on his current deal. Buffalo's management stated they aren't entertaining that possibility at the moment, putting Cook in a difficult position. Buffalo Bills running back James CookMark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Amid his contract standoff, Cook opted to skip the voluntary OTAs at the end of May, sounding the alarms for the defending AFC East champions. Their mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 10-12, which could be the breaking point of this relationship. Advertisement During Wednesday's edition of his "The Adam Schefter Podcast," the NFL insider shared a grim update on where things stand between Cook and his team. Schefter says that Cook will likely remain absent from his team's practice for the foreseeable future. 'You've got a guy who's unhappy with his contractual situation," Schefter said. "(He) has basically disconnected himself from the organization and the city, put his house up for sale...I don't think we'll be seeing him in Buffalo anytime soon. Again, the start of training camp will be the next critical moment. If they don't have a deal done there or by then, does James Cook show up for training camp? Does he risk the penalties that come along in the collective bargaining agreement if he doesn't show up? Schefter then added how other teams with star running backs handled their situations differently. "We've seen the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason reward Saquon Barkley, we've seen the Baltimore Ravens reward Derrick Henry. We have not seen the Buffalo Bills pay James Cook yet. James Cook is a valuable member of that offense." Advertisement The running back market experienced big changes thanks to Barkley, Henry and Cook's performances in 2024. They posted remarkable seasons that helped their teams compete in the playoffs, but only two of them have been given new deals. Falcons taking calls for potential Kyle Pitts trade — why they could be ‘enticed'
Teams are making calls to acquire Kyle Pitts from the Falcons. ESPN insider Adam Schefter said during an episode of 'The Adam Schefter Podcast' that Atlanta isn't initiating any moves itself, but the organization is certainly fielding offers for the star tight end. 'There also have been teams that have approached the Falcons about trading for Kyle Pitts. I don't think the Falcons are looking to deal him, but they're not turning away the calls, either,' Schefter said. 'If there were a team that were willing to give up enough to get him, I think that they could be enticed into trading the former top-five overall selection to another team.' 3 Kyle Pitts hasn't quite lived up to his NFL expectations just yet. AP Pitts was selected by the Falcons with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Florida with loads of potential. After a senior season with the Gators where he was named an All-American and finished top ten in Heisman voting, Pitts was all the rage — with a wide receiver's skillset and speed in a tight end's body, he was a no-brainer pick. Pitts immediately proved the world correct when he made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and racked up over 1,000 yards. But he followed up his strong rookie season with a dud of a sophomore year and posted pedestrian numbers in his next two seasons. 3 Kyle Pitts was taken fourth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Getty Images Pitts has shown flashes of the uber-athletic tight end that he seemed destined to become, but Atlanta hasn't been quite able to fully unlock his potential, and a change of scenery could end up paying dividends for the 24-year-old. He's currently in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent come the 2026 offseason. 'The issue there is he's due $11 million in salary this year,' Schefter said. 'I don't know that there are a whole lot of teams lining up to pay the Falcons what it would take and to pay Kyle Pitts what it would take when he's entering the last year of his contract.' 3 Adam Schefter reported that the Falcons aren't completely opposed to dealing Kyle Pitts. The Adam Schefter Podcast Pitts' situation rings similar to Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins' saga, who has also been in trade talks with Michael Penix Jr. taking the starting job under center. Cousins also holds an undesirable contract, putting Atlanta in a bind if it were to truly push to offload him, and Pitts for that matter.
