Warm tributes paid to teenager who died in Cork road collision
The local sports clubs also acknowledged his great strength and for possessing a fabulous left leg.
The incident, involving a car and a truck, occurred between Ballinhassig and Innishannon on the N71 at approximately 7.15am last Monday morning.
The driver of the car suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teenager who died in the collision has been named locally as 19-year-old Dovydas Palkis from Gortnaclohy Heights in Skibbereen.
Posting on their social media page, Skibbereen AFC passed on their deepest condolences to extended family members of the teenager who played with the club for many years. 'Our thoughts and prayers are with his mother Stella and father Vidmantas, step father John and Vidmantas partner Agne, step sister Chloe and all of his family and friends.
The club added that Dovydas was a really lovely young man with a fabulous left leg. 'He will be greatly missed by the club, his former coaches, teammates and the wider Skibbereen community. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.'
O'Donovan Rossa GAA Club also extended their deepest condolences to the family of Dovydas Palkis on the heartbreaking news of his death.
In a moving post on social media the club said they have wonderful members of Dovydas as a young boy playing Gaelic football with his friends. 'He played all the way up to U17 where he stepped away to concentrate on his Leaving Cert exams. He was a fantastic corner back with great strength and determination, who for such a quiet character was fearless on the pitch.
'He will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of playing or coaching him as a quiet, respectful young man who we will miss dearly. Rest in peace Dovydas,' the Skibbereen GAA club added.
As a mark of respect to the family, Skibbereen Arts Festival have announced that the 90s-themed street party which was due to be held in the town on Friday, July 25 has been cancelled.
They added that their thoughts and prayers are with the family at this terrible time.
St Patrick's Boys' National School also paid a lovely tribute to Dovydas. 'When we think of Dovydas, the words respectful, hardworking, determined, kind, and friendly were spoken of him throughout his years in our school. All of our staff speak so fondly of Dovydas . It was a pleasure to have met him. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam.
Requiem Mass for Dovydas will take place on Friday, July 25 at 12 noon in St Patrick's Cathedral in Skibbereen, followed by cremation at the Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy at 4pm.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 7am and 7.30am are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Suspect in Fermanagh triple-murder dies in hospital, as family are laid to rest
A MOTHER and her two children who were shot dead at their home in County Fermanagh last week have been laid to rest in their hometown of Barefield, County Clare. The deaths of Vanessa Whyte, 45, and her children, James Rutledge, 14, and Sara Rutledge, 13, have left two communities in deep mourning as the investigation into the suspected triple murder-suicide continues. The family was killed last Wednesday morning at a property on Drummeer Road in Maguiresbridge. Ian Rutledge, 43, an agricultural worker and the only suspect in the case, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and died on Monday evening. Police believe Rutledge, who was a member of the same household, fatally shot Vanessa and her children before turning the gun on himself. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed Rutledge was the sole suspect in the attack and is not seeking anyone else in connection with the killings. Investigators have renewed their appeal for information, particularly about the movements of a silver Mercedes saloon car seen between Maguiresbridge and Newtownbutler on the evening of Tuesday, 22 July. Anyone with information is urged to contact police. A funeral mass for the family was held in Barefield on Saturday, following a service of removal in Maguiresbridge and repose at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in County Clare. Mourners were asked to wear bright colours in tribute to the lives lost. Vanessa was described as a devoted mother and a beloved daughter and sister. James and Sara were remembered as dearly loved siblings and grandchildren. Tributes have poured in from both counties. A local Gaelic football club said Vanessa and her children were active and much-loved members of the community. A cricket club the children had been involved with described them as 'talented young cricketers and absolutely lovely-natured children.' In the days following the tragedy, flowers, messages, teddy bears, and a signed Arsenal football shirt were left near the family's home. As the community mourns, donations in memory of Vanessa, James, and Sara are being directed to Women's Aid. Man in critical condition after alleged assault as suspect flees scene
A man is in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital as Gardaí appeal for witnesses to an alleged assault that took place in Tipperary last week. The victim, a man in his 30s, was rushed from Clonmel to the hospital last Thursday night, July 24, after sustaining life-threatening injuries during an attack in the town. The attacker, another man whose age is currently unknown, fled the scene, reports Cork Beo. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to get in contact with them after launching an investigation into the alleged assault. The attack occurred on O'Connell Street in Clonmel shortly after 5pm last Thursday and as of Monday evening, the victim remained in a critical condition in hospital.
