Tributes pour for 'lovely young man' who died in Laois road accident
Tributes have poured in for a 'lovely young man' after he tragically died in a car crash in Laois. Colm Lynch-O'Sullivan, aged in his 20s, sadly lost his life following a single vehicle road traffic collision at Ballaghmore, Borris-in-Ossory, Co. Laois in the early hours of Thursday morning. Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision on the R445 at approximately 3.15am, but tragically Colm, the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. Colm will be remembered by his loving parents Olive and Con, as well as his adoring brothers and many extended family members and many friends. Tributes have poured in from far and wide for the young man following his passing. One mourner wrote: 'Terrible sad to hear of Colm's tragic passing, such a lovely young man. May he rest in peace.' Another penned: 'I wish to express my Sincere Sympathies and Condolences to the Lynch and O'Sullivan Families at this Sad time. Rest In Peace Colm you have been taken much too young.' A third added: 'Heartfelt condolences to Colm mother, father, brothers, friends and extended families on the truly heartbreaking loss of a life so young and precious. 'May all of the happy times you shared with Colm bring you some joy in the times ahead. Rest in peace. Thinking also about the first responders who attended to Colm'. While one more wrote: 'Sincere sympathy to Con and Olive on sudden death of your son Colm thinking of you both at this difficult time my heart goes out to you both may his gentle soul rest in eternal peace'. Colm's funeral arrangements will be released in time. May he rest in peace. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward. A Garda spokesperson said: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area between 3am and 3.30am are asked to make it available to Gardaí. "Anyone with information is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on (057) 8674100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station." Gardaí launch urgent search appeal for teenager missing for nearly a week
Gardaí have launched an urgent search appeal for a teenager who has been missing from Dublin for almost a week, as concern grows for his wellbeing. Omar Khalil, aged 16, has been missing from Dalkey, Co. Dublin since Friday, June 20. Omar is described as being approximately six feet in height, has a strong build, with brown hair and brown eyes. When last seen, Omar was wearing a black and blue jacket, black trousers and black trainers. Gardaí are concerned for his wellbeing and have appealed for anyone with any information on his whereabouts to come forward. A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardaí are seeking the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 16-year-old Omar Khalil who is reported missing from Dalkey, Co. Dublin since Friday, 20 June.' They added: 'Anyone with any information on Omar 's whereabouts is asked to contact Dún Laoghaire Garda station on (01) 666 5000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.' Balbriggan hit and run victim allegedly run after by gang with hurley and knives
The young man ran over and killed in what is suspected to have been a 'targeted' fatal hit and run was allegedly run after by a gang with hurley and knives beforehand, we can reveal. Tragic Mircea Rostas, who was in his 30s, was run over twice by a BMW on Railway Street in Balbriggan just after 9pm on Monday night. Gardaí are set to consider a murder investigation as they continue to question a man known to Mr Rostas tonight, Wednesday, following a night of chaos in the town on Monday. It is now alleged several suspects 'arrived at Railway Street with a hurley and knives' and Mr Rostas ran from the scene 'because of an alleged incident over a female'. It's then alleged a person ran after Mr Rostas on foot before he was allegedly struck by a car which 'went into reverse and then drove back over him', sources say. 'It is believed at this stage it was targeted,' sources say. Sources also say there was a 'war of words' on social media over the past few weeks where a number of people 'started abusing each other; over an alleged assault of a female.' Following the incident a car fled the scene and was subsequently struck by another vehicle driven by associates of the victim. The shocking second collision occurred right outside Balbriggan Garda Station. A fight then broke out outside the station which had to be broken up. The suspect in the case was known to Mr Rostas and subsequently handed himself into Gardaí and was arrested on appointment. Tonight, Wednesday he remained in garda custody. Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses. A garda spokesman said in a statement: 'Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time are asked to make it available to Gardaí. 'Anyone with information is asked to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 666 4500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Gardaí renew information appeal on 14th anniversary of fatal hit-and-run collision in Monaghan
GARDAÍ HAVE RENEWED an appeal for information on the 14 th anniversary of a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a 20-year-old man in Co Monaghan. Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the death of Fintan Traynor, who was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Lemgare, Clontibret, Co Monaghan. In the early hours of Sunday, 26 June 2011, Fintan was walking home after a night out in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan. He was struck by a car on the Lemgare Road, which links the villages of Clontibret and Annyalla with Derrynoose and Keady in Co. Armagh. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene. Gardaí believe that an Audi A4 – a 1996 to 2001 model – was involved in the collision. On the 14th anniversary of Fintan's death, gardaí are renewing the appeal for information concerning the fatal hit and run. A spokesperson said the investigation remains active and in the past 14 years, gardaí have followed over 400 leads. However, the vehicle and driver have yet to be located. Detective Inspector Adrian Durcan of the Monaghan Garda District has appealed for anyone who may have information to come forward to gardaí. 'With the passage of time, now perhaps someone may feel more comfortable coming forward with information in relation to this matter,' said Durcan. Durcan particularly appealed to anyone who may know someone who had damage to an Audi car around this period. 'In 14 years loyalties, friendships and relationships change and perhaps now you are in a position to provide the investigation team with the vital information that would locate the vehicle and driver,' said Durcan. Renewed appeal for information around death of man in Co Monaghan hit and run
A fresh appeal for information has been made over the death of a man in a hit and run in Co Monaghan. Gardai said Fintan Traynor, 20, had been walking home on a road close to the Irish border in the early hours of June 26 2011 after a night out in Castleblayney when he was struck by a car. They said it happened on the Lemgare Road, which links the villages of Clontibret and Annyalla with Derrynoose and Keady in Co Armagh, and the driver of the vehicle failed to stop, instead fleeing the scene.
