JOSE ALDO emotionally announced his second retirement from mixed martial arts following a controversial loss at UFC 315.
The Hall of Famer locked horns with Aiemann Zahabi in a short-notice featherweight showdown in Montreal in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The former long-reigning 145lbs champion rolled back the years in the contest, throwing several of the combinations he became famed for earlier in his career.
And the 38-year-old seemed on course to have his hand raised after dropping Zahabi with a brutal head kick in the third round, which he followed up with a running kick to the face.
But he found himself eating a hellacious barrage of punches and elbows, which opened up a gash on his forehead, from his back following a failed takedown for the remainder of the round.
The judges, surprisingly, scored the fight in Zahabi's favour, with all three of them turning in 29-28 scorecards in favour of the Canadian.
And the decision prompted an emotional Aldo to once again cal time on his career.
He said: "I don't think I have it in me anymore. It wasn't just about the cutting of the weight and everything else.
"I just felt there were so many things that happened. It was very tough to go through all of this.
"There was one point this week — this was a very tough week — that I felt that I didn't have it in me, I didn't want to cut it anymore.

"My body said no, and I just don't think I have it anymore. I don't want to go into war all the time and go through this.
"I just don't have it in my heart anymore. I think this is the last time you're going to see me. I just can't do this anymore."

Brazilian icon Aldo is considered by many to be the greatest featherweight in UFC history.
He ran roughshod through the WEC before it was absorbed by the UFC and he became the promotion's inaugural featherweight champion.
Aldo amassed 18 wins on the bounce during a whopping TEN-YEAR undefeated streak from 2005 to 2015.
His legendary run was ended by former bitter rival and two-division champion Conor McGregor, who won their mammoth unification bout at UFC 194 with a 13-second KO.
He'd reclaim the belt in 2016 after winning the interim title against Frankie Edgar, although he'd lose it to Max Holloway in June 2017.
He'd fail to become a two-weight world champion in July 2020 after dropping down to bantamweight, suffering a fifth-round TKO defeat to Petr Yan.
The fan favourite would close out his legendary career with four wins in his last seven outings.

Casemiro makes final decision on Man Utd exit as Carlo Ancelotti role emerges

Casemiro has been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia for the past 18 months as United have been looking to trim their huge wage bill - but he's set to stay at Old Trafford Big-earning Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is set to stay at Manchester United next season after being offered a World Cup lifeline by Carlo Ancelotti. Casemiro, who collects a cool £350,000-a-week, was handed a shock recall by his country when his former Real Madrid boss named his first Brazil squad earlier this month. ‌ And with the 33-year-old now targeting the finals in Canada, Mexico and the United States next summer, he believes his chances of playing in a third World Cup will be enhanced by staying in the Premier League. Casemiro has been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia for the past 18 months as United have been looking to trim their huge wage bill. ‌ But he worked his way back into manager Ruben Amorim's plans towards the end of the season and was rewarded when new Brazil coach Ancelotti ended his two-year international absence by bringing him into his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay. Casemiro played the full 90 minutes in both games as Brazil collected four points to move up to third place in the South American qualifying table. Ancelotti managed Casemiro at the Bernabeu and didn't agree with the decision to sell him to United in a £70million deal three years ago. The Italian believes the five-time Champions League winner can be a big dressing room influence for him during his first crack at international management. Casemiro has one year left on his United contract, although the Reds have an option to trigger a 12-month extension. He impressed Amorim with his attitude during the final few months of a traumatic season, but United will not stand in his way if the Brazilian decided to cash in by moving to Saudi. Casemiro has continually insisted that he is happy in Manchester despite interest from Al-Nassr, the big-spending club that has just handed Cristiano Ronaldo a two-year contract worth almost £500 million. ‌ The Brazilian is a close friend of the 40-year-old Portuguese after they played together at Madrid. And he posted a picture of him wearing a pair of £7,000 LED recovery boots manufactured by a company partly owned by Ronaldo on his Instagram account during the week. United are looking for buyers for a raft of players who are surplus to requirements under Amorim as they try to raise money to finance a rebuild. ‌ Wing trio Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are all in the shop window, but the Reds' hopes that Inter Milan would follow up an enquiry for misfiring £72 million striker Rasmus Hojlund with a bid for the Danish international. Inter targeted two new strikers after finishing second in serie A and then being hammered by Paris St Germain in the Champions League final. But they have spent £20 million on Parma's Ange-Yoan Bonny and are ready to give teenager Francesco Pio Esposito more game-time after he capped a fine performance against River Plate in the Club World Cup with his first goal for the club. That would close the door on a permanent move for Hojlund, although Inter could still offer a 12-month loan option with an obligation to buy. Jake Paul vs Chavez Jr fight LIVE: UK start time, results and stream

Jake Paul returns to action later this evening when he takes on former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The YouTuber-turned-boxer has not fought since his controversial showdown with Mike Tyson. Despite failing to get a knockdown in the fight, the 'Problem Child' scored a dominant victory on points. Paul had hoped to return to the ring earlier this year - following sensational reports that the American was finalising a deal to fight Canelo Alvarez in May. However, the Mexican opted to pen a deal with Riyadh Season instead. It has been a rather quiet few years in the ring for Chavez Jr. The 39-year-old - who holds a professional record of 54-6-1-1 - ended a three year hiatus last July when he defeated former UFC middleweight contender Uriah Hall. Paul is hoping that a win over Chavez Jr will earn him several high profile fights going forward, but his upcoming foe will be looking to cause a real upset and hand the 'Problem Child' only his second defeat. Be sure to stay tuned with all the live updates below... Hello everyone and welcome to our live blog for Jake Paul's showdown with Julio Chavez Jr. Tonight's event promises to be an exciting watch - with the card stacked from top to bottom with several big names. As well as the main event, Zurdo Ramirez - one of the world's best cruiserweights on the planet - will defend his world titles against former champion Yuniel Dorticos, and victory could see him her a potential blockbuster showdown with Jai Opetaia later this year. But all eyes are on Paul - who has not fought since his dominant win over Mike Tyson. Tonight marks the American's first fight this year and is planning on a busy rest of 2025 should he come away unscathed against the former middleweight champion.

Chelsea battling Premier League rivals for Joao Pedro after bid rejected

Joao Pedro has thrived for Brighton in the Premier League since joining from Watford but the Seagulls face a tall order to keep hold of the Brazilian international Chelsea are battling it out with Newcastle to sign Brighton striker Joao Pedro. Newcastle have already had a £50m-plus bid turned down by Brighton who will not allow the Brazil international to go on the cheap. Chelsea are also keen and have held discussions over signing the 23-year-old who would add options and versatility to their forward line. That would raise serious question marks over the futures of Christopher Nkunku who has been heavily linked with Manchester United and also Nicolas Jackson. ‌ Jackson was sent off in the Club World Cup which means he has been serving a ban in two separate competitions after missing the end of the Premier League season after getting a red card. ‌ Brighton have rejected bids from two separate Premier League clubs with Liverpool and Arsenal also having been linked with the versatile forward who can play through the middle and wide. Chelsea have held discussions but are now pushing to get a deal done and it remains to be seen whether they can agree a deal. Chelsea have been very active in this window as they are still looking to get a deal done for Borussia Dortmund 's Jamie Gittens. Brighton signed Pedro from Watford in a deal worth around £30m in the summer of 2023 and will want to get a big profit. Pedro, who has scored 30 goals in 70 Albion appearances, is a long-term target of Newcastle as who were also keen in 2022. But now Newcastle face a fight on their hands with Chelsea and other Premier League clubs keen on the Brazilian. Pedro was banished from Fabian Hurzeler's squad for the final two Premier League matches of the season following an alleged training ground spat with Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Now his future could be elsewhere if anyone can meet Brighton's price. Earlier this month, Brighton boss Hurzeler suggested he expects to have Joao Pedro and Kaoru Mitoma back for pre-season training. Mitoma was the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League last season but ended up staying put. ‌ "For sure. I'm really looking forward for both of them," the boss tols Sky Sports. "They're great players and they helped us a lot last season. They're expected to be back next week." Brighton have already spent big this summer, with Greek striker Charalampos Kostoulas joining from Olympiacos for around £30m. Tommy Watson and Diego Coppola have also completed moves, from Sunderland and Verona respectively. "I think they all have great potential. We keep doing our way, signing young players with big potential and trying to develop them," Hurzeler added. "That's what we'll try to do with these new signings and I'm sure they will make us better." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
