Mudh–Nyoma airfield: In a significant development bolstering India's defence across the Line of actual control (LAC), India is close to completing the high-altitude Mudh–Nyoma airfield in eastern Ladakh. Situated at 13,700 feet, making it the world's highest fighter-capable airbase, the strategic location of the base makes it very important for India incase of a conflict in the region. As per a report by The Times of India, around 90–95% of the runway is done, and the airfield is expected to be fully ready by August–September 2025, posing a huge challenge for China. The report has also said that the Mudh–Nyoma airfield will be able to support fighter jets, heavy-lift aircraft, and helicopters, and lies just 35 km from the LAC with China. The Mudh–Nyoma airfield has been built under Project Himank at a cost of over Rs 200 crore, signaling India's strong infrastructure push after the 2020 standoff with China. In another significant update from the China border, Director General, Border Roads Organisation (DG-BRO), Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan visited Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Subansiri district to review progress on the Frontier Highway Project, as per a report covered by IANS news agency.
The report also quoted an Arunachal Pradesh government official saying that the flagship Frontier Highway Project initiative is designed to significantly improve all-weather connectivity along the international border, catalyse regional development, and enhance national security through improved logistical capabilities and troop mobility. The northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh shares a 1,080-km border with China, 520 km with Myanmar and 217 km with Bhutan. The DGBR provided a comprehensive overview of BRO's ongoing and upcoming infrastructure development efforts, with a focus on enhancing road connectivity in remote and strategically significant areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

Minister Duraimurugan flags off AC buses in Vellore
Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan on Saturday flagged off seven new AC buses to big cities and towns including Chennai, Bengaluru, Hosur and Tiruchi at a cost of Rs 3.43 crore at a function in new bus terminus here on Saturday. Officials of The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), which will operate the buses on these new routes, said that a total of 105 new buses including 63 mofussil buses and 27 town buses are being operated from Vellore since 2021. Buses are operated in seven new routes and 23 places, where buses were temporarily halted earlier.'Additional AC buses to cities will help engineering and medical students, who study in Chennai and Bengaluru, to travel easily as Mondays always witness huge crowds at the bus terminus in Vellore,' said K. Suganth, a commuter. As per plan, TNSTC officials said that of the total seven buses, two buses will be operated between Vellore and Chennai, four buses between Bengaluru and Vellore and one bus to Tiruchi every day. On the occasion, Collector V. R. Subbulaxmi and A. Ganapathy, general manager, TNSTC (Vellore), were present.

Gangaikonda Cholapuram decked up to welcome PM; police tighten security ahead of visit
Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Ariyalur district in Tamil Nadu wore a festive look on Saturday, a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the ancient capital of the imperial Cholas built by Emperor Rajendra Chola I. The village and the Brihadisvara Temple, situated along the Tiruchi-Chidambaram National Highway, has been decked up with flags and garlands to welcome the Prime Minister, who will participate in the valediction of the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival marking the birth anniversary of Rajendra Chola I. Mr. Modi will release a commemorative coin in honour of the king, accepting a request made by R. Komagan, Chairman of the Gangaikondacholapuram Development Council Trust. The king had built Gangaikonda Cholapuram along with the Brihadisvara Temple and the Cholagangam, a massive lake, after his victorious expedition to the Gangetic plains about 1,000 years ago. Reaffirming the Chola capital's link to the river, Mr. Modi would hand over a pot of water brought from the river Ganga to the temple priests. 'The Prime Minister will hand over the pot brought from Varanasi to the Sivachariars of the temple to perform abishekam,' Mr. Komagan told The Hindu. Heads of various Saivaite mutts in Tamil Nadu are also set to participate in the event. 'About 30 heads of Saivaite maths and sadhus will attend the event. A group of 44 oduvars will recite hymns from Thiruvasagam,' Mr. Komagan said. The Prime Minister will inspect a thematic photo exhibition on 'Saiva siddhanta and Chola Temple Arts', put up by the Archaeological Survey of India, which maintains the temple. Music composer Ilaiyaraaja will perform a 20-minute concert in the presence of Mr. Modi. After an overnight stay in Tiruchi, Mr. Modi will fly to Gangaikonda Cholapuram in a helicopter on Sunday morning. After offering prayers at the temple, he will participate in the public event. Mr. Modi is also expected to go on a roadshow from the helipad, set up near the Cholagangam, or Ponneri, to the temple. The village and the Brihadisvara Temple have been under security blanket with the deployment of over 2,000 police personnel. On Saturday, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat visited the temple and reviewed the arrangements.

He emphasised that the government's approach is centred on delivering tangible results, rather than resorting to superficial measures. The minister assured that teachers' issues would be addressed while announcing a plan to revamp computer labs with a Rs 400 crore investment and said that interactive panels are being installed in schools. He also said that a third batch of teachers would be sent abroad for training, and the selection would be based solely on merit. Additionally, the minister highlighted initiatives such as promotions for lecturers, appointments of 400 new principals, and improvements in school infrastructure, including increased access to proper seating and sanitation facilities. He further stated that education is the top priority of the Chief Minister S Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government, while citing Punjab's emergence as a top performer in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2024, attributing it to the state government's relentless efforts. Furthermore, the Education Minister stated that an impressive 845 government school students passed the highly competitive National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), while 265 students successfully cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains this year, which showcases the school education department's commitment to fostering academic excellence and empowering students to excel in the country's most challenging competitive exams.
