No more rentals: Trader lands on Teluk Intan council blacklist after sledgehammer stunt over blocked shopfront
Perak executive councillor of Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration A. Sivanesan said MPTI has given the 63-year-old man a month's notice to vacate his shop.
'His action (going on a rampage and damaging public property at the MPTI building) is unacceptable and we (the state) cannot tolerate the matter. He will be blacklisted by MPTI and will not be able to rent any stall or shop here in future.
'Also, he has not paid rent for two months, which is only RM150 per month. This serves as a lesson for him and other tenants, not to take the law into their own hands,' he said.
Sivanesan made these remarks during a visit to the Chithirai Pournami festival at the Sri Subramaniam Temple which was attended by some 20,000 Hindu devotees on Jalan Bandar here today.
On Thursday, Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the watchmaker arrived at the MPTI building on a motorcycle and proceeded to smash both of the building's main glass doors with a sledgehammer.
Bakri stated that in his testimony, the man defended his misdemeanour due to dissatisfaction with MPTI's decision to set up tents in front of his shop during the annual Chitra (or Chithirai) Pournami festival, as they obstructed customers' view of his watch repair shop.
Earlier, a one-minute 30-second viral video showed a man astride a motorcycle descending on the MPTI building to smash the glass doors in a rage. — Bernama

Teen drowns in Segamat River, body found 5km from last seen spot
SEGAMAT, July 21 — A 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming in Sungai Segamat, behind a recreational park here, yesterday. Segamat Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations commander Mohd Hazim Abd Razak said they were alerted to the incident at 4.08 pm. According to him, 11 personnel from Segamat BBP, along with four assets, namely a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), two four-wheel-drive vehicles and a boat, were dispatched to the scene. He said the victim's body was found along the riverbank about five kilometres from where he was reported to have gone missing. The search operation ended at 6.40 pm. — Bernama

Will Zayn Rayyan's parents walk free or face trial for neglect charges over son's death? PJ court decides today
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — The decision on whether Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin's parents, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, will be called to defend themselves or acquitted by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on charges of neglecting the six-year-old autistic child to the point of causing physical harm to him, will be known today. Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh is scheduled to give the decision at the end of the prosecution case at 9 am. If the court decides that the prosecution has succeeded in proving a prima facie case against Ismanira and Zaim Ikhwan, then they will be called to defend themselves, while if not, the two accused will be released and acquitted of the charges. On April 24, the prosecution closed the case after calling 28 prosecution witnesses throughout the 20-day trial which began on February 4. Among the prosecution witnesses called to testify were the first person to find Zayn Rayyan's body, Faizul Najib Abd Munaim, Auni Afiqah Abas who was Zayn Rayyan's caregiver, forensic medical consultant Dr Rohayu Shahar Adnan, three investigating officers and two 10-year-old child witnesses. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi, while lawyers Haresh Mahadevan, Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh represented both accused. Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira, both aged 30, were charged with neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause physical harm to the victim in the vicinity of Block R, Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai up to the nearby river area between 12 noon on Dec 5 and 9.55 pm on Dec 6, 2023. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment or a fine of RM50,000 or both, if convicted. Zayn Rayyan, 6, was reported missing on December 5, 2023 and his body was found the next day in a stream near his house. — Bernama
