Alto couple arrested for large amounts of drugs, guns, and cash in home
Jonathan Clayton Burrell of Cornelia and Kateland Elaine Heffner of Cleveland were arrested on Feb. 11 during a search warrant execution at a home on Kitchens Road in Alto.
Authorities confiscated large amounts of marijuana, THC concentrates, edibles, two firearms, and cash.
Both suspects face multiple felony charges and remain in custody at the Habersham County Detention Center.
HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. - A two-week investigation into illegal drug activity in Habersham County resulted in the arrest of two suspects, the seizure of drugs, firearms, cash, and two vehicles, and an ongoing effort to combat narcotics distribution in the area.
What we know
The Habersham County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division, along with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office and Special Operations Unit, executed a search warrant at 550 Kitchens Road in Alto on Tuesday.
During the search, deputies seized a large quantity of marijuana, THC vapes, gummies, edibles, and concentrates, along with two firearms and cash. As a result, Burrell and Heffner were arrested and booked at the Habersham County Detention Center in Clarkesville.
Burrell faces multiple felony charges, including:
Sale of a controlled substance
Possession of a firearm during certain crimes (2 counts)
Possession with intent to distribute (3 counts)
Unlawful possession with intent to distribute marijuana
Heffner is also charged with multiple felonies, including:
Sale of marijuana
Possession of a firearm during certain crimes (2 counts)
Possession of THC with intent to distribute (3 counts)
Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

Three people are facing charges after a burglary at a vape shop in Brentwood. Two juveniles and one adult have been charged after breaking into Vape City Smoke Shop on Wednesday morning. Video surveillance caught two of the suspects breaking in. "Since I saw the door, I didn't even know if we would be able to be open," employee Samantha Sullivan said. A wooden board is now in place of what used to be the glass door of the shop in Brentwood after the early morning break-in. Police say the vape shop was burglarized just after 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. She was back at the business on Wednesday afternoon to check on her co-workers. "I just talked to my coworker inside," Sullivan said. "We're all obviously a little shaken up, but everybody is happy that we weren't there. No one was doing any late-night drop-offs." The vape shop recently extended its hours to midnight, so it had been closed for about 90 minutes before the break-in happened. One of the owners told KDKA the suspects took a couple of jars of THC-A flower, which is like cannabis, and the register was emptied. "Our bosses take their safety precautions," Sullivan said. "But still being an all-female store, it's really scary to know that stuff would happen, especially if we were open any later or if one of us were there closing up late that we could have been there when that happened. It's scary to think about." While two people are seen in the surveillance video, Brentwood police said three people have been charged. Sullivan said she'll be taking extra precautions after this. "I still will work here, but definitely make sure I have all my personal protections on me," Sullivan said. "I had pepper spray already working here as a girl by myself, but I'll definitely add more things to add to my key chain."

Anne Burrell's death under investigation as a possible drug overdose
The New York City Police Department is investigating the death of Anne Burrell, the popular Food Network star who was found dead in her Brooklyn home on Tuesday morning, as a possible drug overdose, according to an internal document viewed by The New York Times. The document said Burrell, who was 55, had been 'discovered in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills.' Emergency medical workers who responded to a 911 call pronounced her dead at the scene. A spokesperson for the city medical examiner's office said Friday that an autopsy had been completed, but that any findings on the cause and manner of Burrell's death were still pending. Burrell was an accomplished Italian chef who began her television career as a sous-chef to celebrity chef Mario Batali on the Food Network show 'Iron Chef America.' She was best known for hosting 'Worst Cooks in America,' which has run for 28 seasons. With her plume of platinum-blond hair, signature mismatched socks and a way of teaching that included a big helping of unvarnished truth, she became a mainstay for the network, appearing as a guest or judge on several other shows and even once riding on the network's float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. In January, fans were surprised to see that Burrell was not hosting the new season of 'Worst Cooks.' Neither she nor the network has explained the change. An indication of a possible conflict came in a Jan. 10 Instagram post when someone asked her why she wasn't on the show and Burrell answered, 'Honestly I don't know.' The night before she died, Burrell had embarked on a new passion: improv. She performed for the first time at Second City New York in Brooklyn after taking classes at the venue's training center. Friends and her food television colleagues said she had also talked about undertaking some new projects. Chef Andrew Zimmern was with her a few months ago for a food festival in Puerto Rico. 'She definitely had something cooking,' he said. 'She was excited about whatever it was she was working on.' On Friday, he delivered a tearful tribute to Burrell at the Aspen Food & Wine Festival, where top names in food media, including Padma Lakshmi, Kristen Kish and Food Network star Tyler Florence, have gathered for the weekend. Zimmern called her a 'brash, bold, loud New Yorker' with 'a tremendous capacity for love.' A week ago, she showed up at a special event that chef Elizabeth Falkner hosted at the Soho House in Manhattan.
