KUNG FURY Director Teases 'Fantasy Punk' Madness with New Movie DRAGONLORD, a Mix of HE-MAN, STAR WARS, and LORD OF THE RINGS — GeekTyrant
His next project is a 'fantasy punk' film titled Dragonlord , and it sounds like a genre blender cranked to eleven. Sandberg told Variety, 'It's a really fun, really rich world with a lot of funny characters. It's tonally similar to Kung Fury.'
He went on to describe the film as 'a crazy mishmash of stuff,' adding, 'There's no movie that I can think of that's exactly like it. But yeah, it's like He-Man mixed with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and Mad Max and also Ninja Turtles … but it's definitely gonna feel super different, I think, from anything.'
Well, that sounds insane! If that laundry list of inspirations doesn't raise an eyebrow, just wait until you hear what the movie's actually about.
In Dragonlord , Sandberg will star as the title character, "a treasure-obsessed hunter whose best friend is a Tyrannosaurus Rex called Blaze Falcon. Rather than hunt for yet more treasure, however, Blaze just wants to hang out and play video games, but when he's kidnapped by the evil Dreadmancer, Dragonlord must pull together an Avengers-like team of bonkers heroes to save his dino buddy."
This new project is clearly another trip into Sandberg's nostalgic, synth-drenched brain, a place where '80s action tropes crash into Saturday morning cartoons, all tied together with lo-fi VFX and tongue-in-cheek storytelling.
It completely makes sense from the guy who brought us Kung Fury, which launched his career and took the internet by storm with its over-the-top blend of time travel, kung fu, and Nazis.
Kung Fury 2 , the feature-length sequel starring Fassbender and Schwarzenegger, has been completed since 2019 but has yet to be released due to legal complications with investors. It's unclear when, or if, the film will see the light of day, but Sandberg seems ready to shift focus and energy into this new chaotic fantasyverse.
Dragonlord doesn't have a release date yet, but when it is released, we can expect something colorful, unhinged, and unlike anything else in theaters. Or streaming services. Or your dreams.

‘Mafia: The Old Country' Is Bringing Back Something Gamers Want
I've heard a lot of chatter lately about a certain kind of nostalgia, one that yearns for a particular era of gaming—let's call it when the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 reigned supreme. This was a time when games were typically far more digestible (10-20-ish hours to fully complete), had little padding and also sported lower price tags, usually somewhere in the $50-60 range for many AAA titles. I'm talking about notable marquee experiences like Uncharted or Halo 3 or Gears of War. Today, the same sort of games usually start at $70 and go up from there: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, for example. Astro Bot did launch at $60, so kudos to Sony for being pro-consumer there, and the polished 3D platformer is worth every penny, in my humble opinion. Still, you'll pay $80 for a standalone copy of Mario Kart World on Nintendo's Switch 2, although to be fair, I remember paying $70-90 at retail for Super Nintendo games back in the early '90s, and $40-70 for original PlayStation titles during roughly the same time period, so perhaps games have gotten relatively cheaper over the years. Or at the very worst, they've stayed around the same price. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Yes, modern game budgets have ballooned out of control, so I guess the money needs to be made up somewhere, but this occurs in an industry that habitually, routinely, even flippantly I'd argue, lays off its talent in sweeping, impersonal waves. Of course, this is happening while publishers make billions of dollars from the hard work. I'll blame AI for now, and greedy executives, too. But maybe, just maybe, we're finally self-correcting and heading in a slightly healthier direction. 2K's upcoming franchise prequel, Mafia: The Old Country, is launching on August 8 for a reasonable and rather old-school $49.99, $10 less than the aforementioned first-party Astro Bot. Is the game AAA in quality? I suppose that judgement is subjective, but from the preliminary footage, it certainly looks to be the case. According to IGN, who published a solid (if somewhat spoiler-filled) hands-on preview of The Old Country, the $50 asking price isn't the only return-to-form aspect of the game. The newest Mafia entry ditches Mafia III's notably out-of-character pivot into open world gameplay and returns to the series narrative-driven, linear approach. One could posit that the industry's general obsession with open world premises and hyper-realistic visuals has outright lead to the problematic budgets I previously mentioned, so positioning The Old Country as a game which sports perfectly acceptable graphics and a campaign that won't take you three months to complete… well, this could please a lot of gamers, including myself. As IGN's Ryan McCaffrey touches on in the video preview, a lot of us aging gamers have children now, as well as jobs and obligations and busy lives. Thus, 40-plus hour adventures just don't hit the way they used to, don't boast the same kind of appeal. There's no official word yet from developer Hangar 13 on The Old Country's overall length, but the welcome throwback vibe is already apparent. This will likely be a game that you can play through in a weekend or two, or in short spurts during evenings after work and getting the kids to bed. Combine this with a potentially engaging story and that attractive $50 price tag, and 2K could have a winning formula on its hands, one that harkens back to an era when I wasn't worried about the mortgage or kindergarten or doing the dishes. Speaking of, I need to get back to scrubbing.

Did anyone win £145m EuroMillions jackpot tonight?
A whopping £145m EuroMillions jackpot was up for grabs this week - but did anybody win? The estimated jackpot of £145,000,000 was waiting for the lucky player who matched all five numbers plus the two lucky stars in the draw, which took place at 8:30pm on Friday (August 1). It's a big week for the National Lottery, as players have been warned of a planned 36-hour outage taking place this weekend. From 11pm on Saturday (August 2), until "late Monday morning", all draw game sales and prize claims will be paused in shops across the UK. READ MORE: EuroMillions results LIVE: Lottery numbers for £145m draw on Friday, August 1 READ MORE: Asda to introduce one-day 'ban' across 10 UK stores National Lottery operator Allwyn has confirmed that the 36-hour outage this weekend is to make way for the biggest technology upgrade in the game's 31-year history. But that outage didn't affect the EuroMillions draw on Friday and nor should it affect the Lotto draw on Saturday. In June, one lucky ticket holder from Ireland won a staggering €250m in a EuroMillions draw, making them the biggest National Lottery winner ever. Since then, nobody has won the estimated jackpots, and it has gradually built back up week-by-week until Friday (August 1) when it reached £145m. Prior to the €250m EuroMillions win, the biggest National Lottery winner was an anonymous ticket-holder who scooped £195m in July 2022. Did anyone win the £145m EuroMillions jackpot? After a slight delay on Friday night, the winning numbers were finally drawn slightly later than usual. They were 04, 16, 25, 29, 30. The lucky stars are: 02, 10. However no one managed to win tonight's prize - meaning it will rollover again with an even bigger jackpot on Tuesday. Three players did manage to match five numbers and one lucky star, and 14 people the five main numbers.

World's Most Eligible Royal Bachelor Is Officially Off the Market
Peter Philips, the British Royal Family's 'Most Eligible Bachelor,' has announced he is tying the knot with partner Harriet Sperling after a year of dating. The 47-year-old royal, officially the 17th in line for the throne, is the last unmarried adult royal male following his divorce from Canadian wife Autumn Kelly four years ago, with whom he shares two daughters. Known for his relaxed and easygoing manner, Philips is believed to have met Sperling, an pediatric nurse, while attending a sporting event in 2024, shortly after splitting from previous partner Lindsay Wallace. 'Mr. Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms. Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr. Rupert Sanders and Mrs. Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement,' the couple revealed in a statement, first reported by Hello! magazine. 'Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement,' they added. 'No official date has been set for the wedding.' Despite his distance from the throne, Philips is said to be close to the King and was known to be the late Queen Elizabeth's favored grandchild. The eldest child of Princess Anne, he made his public debut with Sperling in May 2024 at the Badminton Horse Trials in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, accompanied by sister Zara Tindell. Since going public with their relationship Sperling has wasted no time integrating herself within the rest of the royal family, having been spotted chatting with Queen Camilla and future mother-in-law Princess Anne at the Royal Ascot. The future royal, also a mother to daughter Georgia, previously spoke of the difficulties of being a single mother. 'In the earlier years of my journey as a single mother to my daughter, resources were scarce, and the future was uncertain,' she told Woman Alive magazine. 'Yet, in the absence of material security, I discovered the strength and life that comes from true selfless love. A love that is able to be solely devoted to your child,' she added. Philips, along with sister Zara, occupy an interesting spot in the British royal narrative due to their mother's decision to raise them without royal titles, allowing them to pursue private lives and business interests without interference from the palace. Unlike most members of the family, Philips actually works for a living, currently serving as managing director of boutique sports management company SEL UK since 2012, having previously worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland and lived overseas in Hong Kong. His divorce from Kelly in 2021 after 14 years of marriage was said to be an amicable one, with the couple announcing they were separating on good terms after jointly deciding the relationship had run its course. Kelly still resides in Gloucestershire not far from where Philips lives so they can continue to co-parent their two children, Savannah, 14, and Isla, 13. Royal insider Simon Mills previously told the Daily Beast: 'Peter Phillips is a catch. He's the only un-disgraced, single, not old, royal we have. He also, importantly, has all his own hair. And Princess Anne, being the most loved and admired royal, would be a cracking mother in law.' Solve the daily Crossword
