Ohio State football players well-represented at top end of 'College Football 26' ratings

We continue to count down to the release of EA Sports' "College Football 26," the second-year reboot of the popular college football video game franchise. Those who purchase the Deluxe Edition will have early access on July 7, with everyone being able to gain access on July 10. Leading up to that, EA Sports has been releasing some information about the game that's sure to become a staple of many college football fans. One of those things the game-maker is sending out on social media is some of the ratings of the teams and players. We already know that Jeremiah Smith is the highest-rated player in the game, and that Ohio State is ranked as the third-best team you can play with, but on Tuesday, EA Sports released some of the top-end rankings of other players. Included were the top ten ranked offensive players, and yeah, Smith was on top of that list. However, instead of the original screenshot of him being an overall 99, it now appears as though the superstar wideout is an overall "98." There aren't any other OSU players among the top ten on the offensive side, and only one other Big Ten player, Penn State Nicholas Singleton, who barely made the cut as the No. 10 rated offensive player with an overall 93. Alabama receiver -- who just so happens to be with Smith on the cover of the game -- is the second best player with an overall rating of 96. But wait. Not only does Ohio State have the highest-rated offensive player, it also has the best defensive player in the game, with safety Caleb Downs ranking No. 1 with an overall rating of 96. Like the offensive side, Downs is the only OSU defensive player in the top ten and just one of two Big Ten players with Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman coming in at No. 10 with an overall rating of 93. In addition to sharing the top ten on both sides of the ball, EA Sports also released the top five by position, and one other Buckeye made those lists with transfer tight end Max Klare checking in as the No. 3 tight end in the game with an overall rating of 91. We'll have a further breakdown of Ohio State players when the complete list of ratings is released by EA Sports. That should be an interesting look at what the game believes about OSU's roster for the 2025 season. For now, though, somewhat unsurprisingly, the Buckeyes are well-represented at the top of what the game has to offer. Ohio State superstar receiver Jeremiah Smith makes bold prediction about Michigan

As the saying goes, "you only know what you don't know." That might be the case with superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith recently because he made some comments that will surely make it into a certain opposing locker room as bulletin board material. Smith, in an interview with The Athletic's Manny Navarro at the OT7 Playoffs, talked at great length on a variety of topics, including his phenomenal record-breaking freshman season. Any discussion on last year has to include the surprising, if not shocking, loss to arch-rival Michigan in Columbus. 'I'm not a sore loser, but I hate losing, and losing to that team up north was pretty crazy,' Smith said. 'In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn't want to go to Ohio State and lose to that team up north. I just hate them. Just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can't lose to them in the next two years.' Promise? That sounds like a guarantee to anyone reading or listening, and there's no doubt that those with Maize and Blue in their wardrobes are especially taking note. If anyone can back it up, it's a player like Smith, who might just be the best player in college football next season. He's far from the reason the Buckeyes lost that game, but the game plan didn't exactly take advantage of his skill on the outside, as many OSU fans will begrudgingly recall. Still, someone has to throw the ball to Smith, and that means someone has to have time and space to do it. So yeah, it's not all up to Smith, but if he has anything to do with it, you can bet he'll do whatever he can to make sure that type of loss doesn't happen again to Ohio State's arch rival. And while you like the confidence, you just wish those types of comments were left on the tip of the tongue and not out there for the enemy to read and digest.

Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith Sets Priorities Straight Amid Heisman Buzz

Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith Sets Priorities Straight Amid Heisman Buzz originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's no doubt that it was an amazing 2024 season for the Ohio State Buckeyes, which was capped off with a national championship win, defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 34-23. Advertisement Much of the team's success fell onto the shoulders of true freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who now enters 2025 with some extremely high expectations, as ESPN BET ties him for the second-best odds (+900) to win the Heisman Trophy. There's no doubt that winning that kind of award would be amazing, but while talking to The Athletic's Manny Navarro, the young wide receiver revealed what he's most looking to accomplish next season. 'I'm just trying to win another natty — that's what I'm focused on,' Smith said. 'All the other individual accolades will come after that.' Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith© Kyle Robertson/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Continuing the same success certainly isn't out of the cards for Ohio State, as it currently sits at No. 4 on ESPN's FPI, behind the Texas Longhorns, Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide. Advertisement Smith, who last season appeared in 16 games, accumulating 76 receptions, 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns, has the potential to play one of the biggest roles in the team's success going into 2025. However, winning it all once again could be viewed as a big ask, considering that only three have been crowned national champions in back-to-back seasons since 1980, with the most recent occurrence being Georgia in 2021 and 2022. Smith and Ohio State's hopes of joining that list will be tested very early on, as they host the Longhorns for a Week 1 matchup, with ESPN BET placing them as three-point favorites. Even if the Buckeyes do fall short, though, Smith potentially becoming just the sixth wide receiver in college football history to win the Heisman Trophy would serve as a nice consolation prize.
