'Salman Khan Was Holding a Knife to My Throat,' Ashok Saraf Recalls Shoot: ‘I Tried to Escape…'

Ashok Saraf recalls a near-fatal throat injury during a Jaagruti scene with Salman Khan. Veteran actor Ashok Saraf, widely loved for his comic timing, once stepped into the shoes of a villain in Salman Khan's 1992 film Jaagruti. But playing the bad guy came with unexpected risks. In a recent chat with Radia Nasha Official, Saraf revealed a frightening incident on set where he nearly got seriously hurt during a scene involving a real knife. Saraf shared, 'He was holding my throat with a knife and it was a real knife. Uski jo nok hoti hai woh kaat ke gayi aise… As soon as we started saying the dialogues, I tried to escape from his hands. Salman zor se daba rahe the and then I said, 'Dheere se dabaao, katt raha hai yahan par.'" He went on to explain how he advised Salman to ease up: 'He then asked me what he should do, maine bola ulta pakdo na. He said that the camera is facing towards us, dikh jaayega usme, then maine socha chhorro. We did the scene and when I saw later, there was a deep cut on my throat. Agar yahan ki nass katt jaati toh hum udhar hi…Main kabhi nahi bhoolunga. I am not sure if he (Salman) remembers this. Aise aadmi kisi ko yaad nahi rehte, bhool jaate hain." Jaagruti starred Salman Khan alongside Karisma Kapoor, Shiva Rindani, Pankaj Dheer, Prem Chopra, and Ashok Saraf himself. The film had a mixed reception at the box office, performing moderately. Salman and Ashok have shared screen space in many films, including hits like Karan Arjun, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, and Bandhan. On the career front, Salman Khan recently appeared in the action drama Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss. He's gearing up for the sequel to his 2012 blockbuster Kick, which was officially announced in October. Salman is also working on a film centered on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict, directed by Apoorva Lakhia.
