The post was shared by @lordarthur77, in which he mentioned that although the role is remote, the company said he would need to visit Bengaluru every quarter for 7 to 10 days. These meetings would be at his own expense, with no travel or accommodation reimbursement.
"Is this a common practice: Company asking for quarterly meetups in Bangalore on your own expenses? It's a remote setup though," the caption of the post reads.
He further mentions that the company is following BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). 'I have to buy my own laptop, and also asking to install security patches to protect the data as well.'

Here' s how people reacted to this post:
Many Reddit users expressed surprise and concern over the company's conditions. Some felt it was unreasonable to expect a remote worker to travel to another city without any reimbursement. Others pointed out that BYOD policies are common, but companies should offer support or compensation.
One of the user, @BigDocument2946, commented, 'Scam definitely avoid it. Once you install that software there is no privacy , it's exploitation.'
A second user, @Longjumping-Green351, commented, 'Mine is remote too but quarterly visit is expected in the office and no reimbursement for it.'
Another user, @Vegetable-Mall-4213, commented, 'At least partial reimbursement should be there.'
Several users shared similar experiences and advised the developer to clarify all terms in writing before accepting the job offer.

OpenAI delays open AI model again, Sam Altman says he doesn't know how long it will take

OpenAI has slammed the brakes on the release of its eagerly-awaited open-source AI model, citing the need for more rigorous safety checks before allowing developers to get their hands on it. The launch, originally due earlier this summer and then delayed to next week, has now been postponed indefinitely. Sam Altman, CEO of the ChatGPT-maker, broke the news on Friday in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying the company needed more time to evaluate the model's potential need time to run additional safety tests and review high-risk areas. We are not yet sure how long it will take us,' Altman wrote. 'While we trust the community will build great things with this model, once weights are out, they can't be pulled back. This is new for us and we want to get it right.' This isn't just any AI release. OpenAI's upcoming open model has been billed as one of the most exciting tech launches of the summer, right up there with the looming (and still mysterious) debut of GPT 5. But unlike GPT 5, which is expected to remain tightly controlled, the open model was designed to be downloadable and fully usable by developers without guardrails, a first for OpenAI in years. However, that freedom comes with a catch. By giving developers unrestricted access to the model's underlying 'weights', the core parameters that define its intelligence, OpenAI risks losing control over how it's used. That concern appears to be front and centre in the decision to hit Clark, OpenAI's VP of Research and head of the open model project, explained the reasoning further in his own post: 'Capability wise, we think the model is phenomenal — but our bar for an open source model is high, and we think we need some more time to make sure we're releasing a model we're proud of along every axis.'While developers around the world will now have to wait a little longer to test-drive OpenAI's most powerful open model to date, the company is promising it will be worth the wait. Insiders say the model is expected to rival the reasoning skills of the o-series — the family of models powering GPT 4o — and that it was designed to outperform all currently available open-source OpenAI's delay could also open the door for competitors. Just hours before the announcement, Chinese startup Moonshot AI unveiled its latest heavyweight: Kimi K2, a massive one-trillion-parameter model. Early benchmarks suggest Kimi K2 already outpaces OpenAI's GPT 4.1 on a range of coding and agentic tasks, raising the stakes for OpenAI's own open open-source AI arms race is heating up, with Google DeepMind, Anthropic, and Elon Musk's xAI pouring resources into their own next-gen models. For OpenAI, this delay means temporarily ceding the spotlight to its rivals, a rare move for the company that sparked the AI boom with Altman hinted at something 'unexpected and quite amazing' when he first revealed the model's initial delay in June, leaving many to wonder if OpenAI is sitting on a groundbreaking capability it simply isn't ready to unleash.- Ends

Indian IT Startup Shuts Down Overnight, 19 Employees Laid Off On Video Call

A Reddit post about a layoff at an Indian IT startup has gone viral, sparking outrage online. In the post, the employee claimed that the CEO of a four-year-old startup suddenly called the workers for a video call during what seemed like a typical workday. However, in the meeting, the boss disclosed that the company, related to cloud/chatbot management, had run out of money and was shutting down right that moment. The Redditor said that none of the 19 employees saw that coming because there had been "no warnings, no layoffs". "It was supposed to be just another normal workday at our (now former) startup. But around midday, we all got an unexpected email from the CEO calling for an urgent all-hands meeting. In that meeting, he told us something none of us saw coming: the company had completely run out of money. We wouldn't be getting paid this month, and effective immediately, the company was shutting down. All of our investors had pulled out. He told us not to report to work the next day," the Redditor wrote. "And just like that, a four-year-old startup was gone. Nineteen people, myself included, are suddenly out of a job. It still hasn't fully sunk in. We had our struggles, sure, but there was no warning. No layoffs. No bridge funding. No communication that we were in real trouble" the user added. Our startup shut down overnight—19 of us lost our jobs by u/Traditional-Knee-834 in developersIndia The employee further wrote that though the CEO said he would try to help the laid-off individuals get new roles, his promise was insignificant. "I'm posting this partly to process everything, and partly to hear from others who've gone through something similar. How did you handle the shock? How did you bounce back?" the Redditor concluded. Reacting to the post, one user shared, "I was in the same situation in November; I remember waking up in the morning and thinking that today I'll complete this task, and I won't have any Jira tickets left for this sprint and will enjoy it now. But suddenly, in the standup, my CEO informed us that investors had asked us to shut down all operations in a month, so we had only one month to find new jobs. I was shattered as it was my very first job. It took me 2 days to even process this, and then I started working towards getting a job; it took some time, but I got a job. So I think, don't lose hope, you'll definitely get something. Just give it some time and trust the process." "I had a similar experience 2 months ago. My sister was in the hospital and bills were piling up. It was month end so I thought I just had to work through another week to get paid and get back on track. I opened Slack and nobody was online. An email requesting me to schedule a meeting with the Co-founders was sitting in the inbox. I did just that. All the co-founders and my team lead joined the meeting. The call barely lasted 3 minutes. And just like that, the entire office was let go. Been struggling ever since, as I am a fresher," wrote another. "I have been through this. First reaction and the one that lasts is SELF DOUBT. Trust me OP, this shall too pass. Opportunities arise out of no where. For now keep belief in yourself alive. It is tough time for sure. But keep fighting," committed a third user. "A similar thing happened to me in May. One fine day , everyone on the team was fired. The founder had failed to get funding and that was it. The founder had personally assured everyone that they had money till the end of the year and then this happened. I did get two months garden leave which made my life a little bit easier. Got a job recently after a grueling grind. Get on the grind man, hiring is slow but steady," one Redditor shared.
