Say what you want about how the New York Giants have performed as a whole the past couple seasons, but their defense's ability to get to the quarterback is very impressive.

And one player's dominance is key in them being able to do that.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Steve Palazzolo talks about Giants' star defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II, specifically his ability to get to the opposing team's QB in some very hard spots.
"Dexter Lawrence is in his own world," Palazzolo said. "Since 2022, nose tackle pressures, taking out negated plays, Dexter Lawrence has 103. Vita Vea is number two with 23. Vita Vea does line up at nose tackle sometimes, I'm saying Dexter Lawrence lines up at nose tackle, which is the hardest place to get pressure, but it's the most detrimental to the offense."
Doubling someone lining up at nose tackle is easier than doubling someone on the outside, but Lawrence is still able to make his presence felt.

The 27-year-old defensive star racked up nine sacks, 44 total tackles, and 16 QB hits this past season. This play led him to be named to the Pro Bowl in his third straight season, and he did so while playing just 12 games.
The Giants have only made the playoffs once in the last eight seasons, so Lawrence will be looking to help lead the team back to the postseason for the first time since 2022. ... which around here will be another world altogether.

The Los Angeles Rams are currently in the midst of training camp, but they have been doing so without quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford is currently dealing with a back issue, and that has brought plenty of worry from fans and pundits alike. More news: Aaron Donald Has Officially Returned to Rams Training Camp Despite Stafford not suiting up thus far in training camp, NFL insider Adam Schefter has provided a major update on the situation. Though Matthew Stafford hasn't practiced at this summer's training camp due to his back injury, it does not sound like an issue that will prevent him for being ready for opening day vs. the Texans. Cc: @tyschmit 🎧 — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 5, 2025 "I don't think it's ideal when your quarterback hasn't practiced yet in training camp and it's the first week of August, but my understanding is that it's a total maintenance issue. Yes, he has had some back discomfort, and he has had some pain. 37 years old. "But they don't want to put him out there, they don't want to put and wear and tear on his body. He knows how the game works, he knows how the offense functions, he knows how his teammates think and operate. They are intentionally keeping him out ... my understanding is that if the Rams had a game today, Matthew Stafford would be playing without a question," Shefted stated. Matthew Stafford #9 of the Los Angeles Rams throws a pass during the NFL playoff game at State Farm Stadium on January 13, 2025 in Glendale, Arizona. The Rams defeated the Vikings news: Vikings Pro Bowl Linebacker Anthony Barr Announces Retirement Stafford is 37 years old and has spent plenty of time in the league, but it does sound like he is not being rushed into practicing to ensure he will be healthy for an entire 17-game season and more. The Rams also kept most of their team intact through free agency, though they swapped Cooper Kupp for Davante Adams. Adams, like Stafford, is a pro who has experienced many seasons in the league. His experience alone perpetuates a level of confidence that he would likely not need to build a huge rapport with Stafford. The pair would likely need minimal time to get on the same page offensively. The Rams were one of the biggest surprises in 2024, putting together a big season after starting off 1-4. The offensive line was ravaged, and Stafford paid dearly for that by taking a bunch of hits. Despite the rough start, the Rams handily beat the Minnesota Vikings in the Wildcard Round, but were bested by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round. The Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl. Still, the Rams possess a solid core, including Stafford. Though he might need some extra time off to make sure he is healthy for all of 2025, that shouldn't be a major concern. The Rams will still be a contender in the NFC once the regular season rolls around. For more on the Rams and NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.

Saquon Barkley declines President Trump's invitation to serve on sports council

Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley told reporters he declined an invitation to serve on President Donald Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. The clarification came days after Trump signed an executive order bringing back the Presidential Fitness Test for students in public schools and mentioned Barkley as one of many prominent sports figures on the council. Advertisement 'A couple of months ago, it was brought to my team about the council, so I'm not really too familar with it,' Barkley told reporters on Monday. 'I felt like I'm going to be super busy, (so) me and my family thought it was probably in the best interest to not accept that. 'I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned,' Barkley said, 'but I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it.' Trump revived the fitness protocol on Thursday with several council members in attendance, including Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor, LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau, retired LPGA star Annika Sorenstam and WWE executive Paul 'Triple H' Levesque. Trump said other council members include former NFL quarterback Tony Romo, current players Nick Bosa and Tua Tagovailoa, as well as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The fitness test was established in the 1960s but ended during the administration of former President Barack Obama. According to the White House, the order reiterates the administration's 'commitment to ending the childhood chronic disease epidemic and ensuring the strength, vitality, and excellence of future generations of Americans.' Barkley flew on Air Force One and played golf with Trump before the Eagles visited the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl LIX victory in April. Amid backlash, Barkley defended himself in a post on X, saying he respects the office and similarly played golf with Obama 'not too long ago.' The fitness executive order was the latest example of Trump's focus on sports during his second term. Earlier this month, he signed an executive order intended to bring order and stability to college sports. In March, Trump established a White House task force for the 2026 World Cup, and on Tuesday, Trump plans to create a task force for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, according to The New York Times.

Teddy Bridgewater set to return to the NFL with the Buccaneers to back up Baker Mayfield

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Teddy Bridgewater is nearing a return to the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said Bridgewater is visiting the team and the Bucs plan to sign him. The Buccaneers will be the eighth team in 12 seasons for the 32-year-old Bridgewater. Bridgewater coached his former high school in Miami to a Class 3A state championship last fall and then returned to the NFL in late December to serve as a backup to Jared Goff for the playoff-bound Lions. He would provide insurance for the four-time defending NFC South champions behind Baker Mayfield. The Buccaneers also have veteran Kyle Trask, who has thrown 11 passes in four seasons since he was a second-round pick in 2021. Mayfield returned to practice Tuesday after missing a couple of days because of a hand contusion. Bridgewater said last month that he was suspended from coaching Miami Northwestern High School because he provided players with financial benefits that he says he reported to the school. 'I'm not going anywhere,' Bridgewater said on social media post. 'And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem.' Bridgewater, a first-round pick by Minnesota in 2014, is 33-32 as a starter and made the Pro Bowl after his second season when he led the Vikings to an 11-5 record. He also spent time with the Jets, Saints, Panthers, Broncos and Dolphins. Bridgewater has completed 66.4% of his passes for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, 47 interceptions and a 90.5 passer rating. Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard was an assistant coach in Miami in 2022 when Bridgewater backed up Tua Tagovailoa. Buccaneers defensive line coach Charlie Strong was Bridgewater's head coach at Louisville. Tampa Bay's quarterback room also includes Michael Pratt and Connor Bazelak. Pratt, a seventh-round pick out of Tulane by Green Bay in 2024 who signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad last August, has been sidelined by a back injury. Bazelak signed as an undrafted free agent out of Bowling Green where he spent the final two of his six college seasons. ___ AP NFL:
