Giants' Superstar Defender is in 'His Own World'
Say what you want about how the New York Giants have performed as a whole the past couple seasons, but their defense's ability to get to the quarterback is very impressive.

And one player's dominance is key in them being able to do that.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Steve Palazzolo talks about Giants' star defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II, specifically his ability to get to the opposing team's QB in some very hard spots.
"Dexter Lawrence is in his own world," Palazzolo said. "Since 2022, nose tackle pressures, taking out negated plays, Dexter Lawrence has 103. Vita Vea is number two with 23. Vita Vea does line up at nose tackle sometimes, I'm saying Dexter Lawrence lines up at nose tackle, which is the hardest place to get pressure, but it's the most detrimental to the offense."
Doubling someone lining up at nose tackle is easier than doubling someone on the outside, but Lawrence is still able to make his presence felt.

The 27-year-old defensive star racked up nine sacks, 44 total tackles, and 16 QB hits this past season. This play led him to be named to the Pro Bowl in his third straight season, and he did so while playing just 12 games.
The Giants have only made the playoffs once in the last eight seasons, so Lawrence will be looking to help lead the team back to the postseason for the first time since 2022. ... which around here will be another world altogether.

The Rams also kept most of their team intact through free agency, though they swapped Cooper Kupp for Davante Adams. Adams, like Stafford, is a pro who has experienced many seasons in the league. His experience alone perpetuates a level of confidence that he would likely not need to build a huge rapport with Stafford. The pair would likely need minimal time to get on the same page offensively. The Rams were one of the biggest surprises in 2024, putting together a big season after starting off 1-4. The offensive line was ravaged, and Stafford paid dearly for that by taking a bunch of hits. Despite the rough start, the Rams handily beat the Minnesota Vikings in the Wildcard Round, but were bested by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round. The Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl. Still, the Rams possess a solid core, including Stafford. Though he might need some extra time off to make sure he is healthy for all of 2025, that shouldn't be a major concern. Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley told reporters he declined an invitation to serve on President Donald Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. The clarification came days after Trump signed an executive order bringing back the Presidential Fitness Test for students in public schools and mentioned Barkley as one of many prominent sports figures on the council. Teddy Bridgewater set to return to the NFL with the Buccaneers to back up Baker Mayfield
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Teddy Bridgewater is nearing a return to the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said Bridgewater is visiting the team and the Bucs plan to sign him. The Buccaneers will be the eighth team in 12 seasons for the 32-year-old Bridgewater. Bridgewater coached his former high school in Miami to a Class 3A state championship last fall and then returned to the NFL in late December to serve as a backup to Jared Goff for the playoff-bound Lions. He would provide insurance for the four-time defending NFC South champions behind Baker Mayfield. The Buccaneers also have veteran Kyle Trask, who has thrown 11 passes in four seasons since he was a second-round pick in 2021. Mayfield returned to practice Tuesday after missing a couple of days because of a hand contusion. Bridgewater said last month that he was suspended from coaching Miami Northwestern High School because he provided players with financial benefits that he says he reported to the school. 'I'm not going anywhere,' Bridgewater said on social media post. 'And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem.' Bridgewater, a first-round pick by Minnesota in 2014, is 33-32 as a starter and made the Pro Bowl after his second season when he led the Vikings to an 11-5 record. Buccaneers defensive line coach Charlie Strong was Bridgewater's head coach at Louisville. Tampa Bay's quarterback room also includes Michael Pratt and Connor Bazelak. Pratt, a seventh-round pick out of Tulane by Green Bay in 2024 who signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad last August, has been sidelined by a back injury.
