Delhi: Unidentified men attack senior doctor of GTB Hospital, break liquor bottle on his head
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): A senior doctor at GTB Hospital in Delhi was attacked by unidentified individuals late at night on Friday. The incident occurred during a routine round with the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) team.
According to Kehar Singh, the president of the RWA, a group of people arrived on bikes around 8:30-9:00 p.m. and were stopped at the gate. An altercation ensued, and the individuals allegedly attacked the doctor with a liquor bottle.
He said that the attackers arrived on bikes, abused the group, and hit the doctor with a liquor bottle, adding that one of them claimed to be a police officer but refused to show ID.
Speaking to ANI, Kehar Singh said, '...The doctor was on a routine round with the RWA team. Around 8:30 to 9:00 p.m., several people arrived on bikes. When we stopped them, they abused us...When we interrogated them at the gate, they abused us...Later, they attacked the doctor with a liquor bottle. The police have arrived. One of them claims to be an ASI in the Delhi Police...We have been demanding security for so long...'
While Associate Professor of GTB Hospital and Chief Patron of RWA, Dr Kuldeep Kumar, who had been attacked, said that the group abused and assaulted them without reason.
He said, 'The whole team of RWA (Residents' Welfare Association) was on routine round...Some time ago, a case of molestation and a murder case also came to light. We are concerned about the security of our students on campus. So, we go on a routine round...During that time, several people came and abused us, without any provocation; they assaulted us. They attacked me...A person from that group claims to be ASI who threatened me. He did not show his ID card when asked to do so.'
Concerned about the rising crime rate on campus, Dr Kumar said a meeting with hospital officials will be held, and legal action will be taken. The RWA has been demanding increased security measures for hospital staff, highlighting the need for better protection.
'A meeting will be conducted with the senior officials of the hospital in the morning, and we will decide on the action to take...We have given our complaint. The police will take my complete statement in the morning. We will adopt the legal way to tackle the situation,' Kumar said.
Hospital staff have also filed a complaint, and police are investigating the matter. (ANI)

Today, there was an incident in which due to a sudden surge in crowd at our high density points, people complained of suffocation, so from around 4:20 am to 5:40 am, around 15 devotees were transferred to the hospital, out of which 12 devotees were discharged after general treatment, but 3 of them died.' According to a press note by the Odisha Chief Minister's Office, a tragic incident occurred during the world-famous Rath Yatra in Puri, as overcrowding led to the unfortunate demise of three devotees. Expressing deep sorrow, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased devotee. The Chief Minister ordered a detailed administrative inquiry under the supervision of the Development Commissioner and instructed the transfer of the District Collector. SP Chanchal Rana has been appointed as the new District Collector, while Pinak Mishra has taken charge as the new Superintendent of Police. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that Rath Yatra is a source of pride for Odisha and assured strict action against those responsible for the mishap. He emphasised that such incidents must not recur, ensuring the safety and sanctity of the festival in the future. CM Mohan Charan Majhi apologised and sought forgiveness from the devotees, directing the authorities to initiate action against those responsible. Posting on social media platform X, Chief Minister Majhi said, 'Due to the intense eagerness among devotees to have a glimpse of Mahaprabhu at Sharadhabali, an unfortunate incident occurred because of the resulting jostling and chaos. Personally, my government and I seek forgiveness from all devotees of Jagannath. We express our condolences to the families of those devotees whose lives were lost at Sharadhabali and pray to Mahaprabhu Jagannath to grant them the strength to bear this profound sorrow.' He added that an investigation will be conducted into the security lapse, and action will be taken against those responsible. 'This negligence is unforgivable. An immediate investigation into the security lapse will be conducted, and I have directed that necessary steps be taken to initiate exemplary action against those responsible,' Majhi's X post read. The stampede, in which at least three people died and several were injured, occurred early this morning near the Gundicha Temple in Puri. During the annual Rath Yatra, a massive crowd of devotees pull the holy chariots of the three deities - Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Shubhadra, which are taken to the Gundicha Temple, a short distance from the Jagannath Temple. The three deities spend a week at the Gundicha Temple before returning to Jagannath Temple. This year, the Rath Yatra commenced on Friday. (ANI)

Delhi: Two robbery accused injured in encounter with Police

According to Delhi Police, the encounter took place at 5 am in the Aastha Kunj Park, where the two accused were shot in the leg. Police received information about the whereabouts of the accused, after which they surrounded them. The accused fired at Special Staff Inspector RS Dagar and a Head Constable, after which police fired in retaliation and caught the accused. The two accused, identified as Akshay and Jatin, allegedly looted an American citizen at knifepoint in the South Delhi area a few days ago. In the early hours of Juen 26, a US citizen was robbed after being stabbed in his hand, after which he was admitted to a hospital. He was accompanied by his Indian woman friend during the time of the incident. According to Delhi Police, several other cases of robbery have been registered against the two accused. (ANI)

83 Bangladeshi nationals held in east Delhi for illegal stay
ANI file photo NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has apprehended 83 Bangladeshi nationals, including 33 minors, from various localities of east Delhi for staying illegally in the national capital, an official on Sunday said. The action was part of an ongoing special drive launched in November 2024 to identify and take legal action against illegal immigrants, police said. "So far, a total of 120 Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehend under the drive," said the officer. Digital evidence, including photographs and documents linked to Bangladeshi citizenship, were recovered from the detainees' mobile phones," he added.
