Revanth asserts Palamuru's son will rule Telangana for next 10 years; Rajagopal says CM selection in Congress is democratic

The Hindu2 days ago
Munugode MLA, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, known for stoking controversies and speaking his heart out on any platform, has created political buzz in Telangana. He said that the Chief Minister in the Congress is elected by the party high command and with the support of the MLAs.
In his post on 'X' on Saturday, Mr. Rajagopal Reddy disapproved Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's claims that for the next 10 years Telangana will be ruled by the Palamuru son - a reference that points to Mr. Revanth Reddy himself. Mr. Revanth Reddy made these statements at a public meeting in Jataprolu in Kollapur constituency of Nagarkurnool district on Friday (July 19, 2025).
Tagging a Telugu news report in the post, Mr. Rajagopal Reddy said that Mr. Revanth Reddy announcing that he would be the Chief Minister for the bext 10 years was contrary to the Congress party policies.
He said, in the post written in Telugu, that, 'In Congress, the selection of the Chief Minister is democratic, as per the wishes of the party high command. Sincere Congress leaders and workers will not tolerate any attempts to turn Telangana Congress into a personal empire.'
Mr. Rajagopal Reddy, younger brother of Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, has been an aspirant for the ministerial berth and it was one of the conditions before he joined the Congress party from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just before the 2023 Assembly elections in the State.
However, Mr. Rajagopal Reddy was denied a berth in the Cabinet initially as his brother, Mr. Venkat Reddy, a senior Congressman, was chosen. The Munugode MLA waited for the expansion, but the party was unable to accommodate him citing too many aspirants from the politically powerful Reddy community.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal had conveyed to him the reasons for excluding him in the Cabinet expansion but that did not satisfy the outspoken leader. However, he was hopeful that he would be considered in the vacancies in Cabinet, which the Congress may not fill till the local body elections are over.
Mr. Rajagopal Reddy's resignation from the Congress and as MLA in August 2022 forced a bypoll in Munugode where he contested on a BJP ticket again.
The poll, considered to be one of the costliest in history, saw a see-saw battle between the then-ruling BRS and the BJP. Though he lost by a narrow margin, it pushed the BJP to new heights in Telangana, raising its hopes of replacing the BRS. The earlier bypoll of Huzurabad, where BRS dissident Etala Rajender defeated the BRS candidate as a BJP nominee, and Raghunandan Rao winning in Dubbak bypoll gave the BJP new strength.
However, him rejoining Congress in October 2023 helped the party change the perception that the BJP was out of the race in Telangana in 2023 Assembly elections.

EPS says he is not a worm for the BJP to swallow

Trichy: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Monday that he was not a worm to be swallowed by BJP . Responding to remarks by chief minister M K Stalin that BJP would swallow AIA DMK , EPS said it was DMK which was swallowing its allies. "Stalin says BJP will swallow Palaniswami. Is Palaniswami a worm to be swallowed by a fish? You are the one swallowing many of your allies. Congress has diminished, Communists have disappeared, and VCK is sticking around with DMK," he said during his campaign in Thanjavur. EPS also rebutted the criticism that AIADMK will be divided by BJP. "Stalin is warning us that AIADMK will break and that I should be careful. I would like to tell him that AIADMK will not break," EPS said. EPS alleged that when he was the chief minister, DMK was desperate to bring him down and posed several troubles, especially the no confidence motion in the assembly in 2017. "When we proved our majority and defeated the motion, he walked away with torn shirt. When we win the elections next year, (his) dhoti too will also disappear," EPS said. EPS reaffirmed that his party will form a govt with an absolute majority in the upcoming assembly elections. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Crypto CFDs May Suit Your Portfolio IC Markets Learn More Undo "Stalin claims that the DMK alliance will win 200 seats. Instead, the AIADMK alliance will win in 210 seats. AIADMK will form the govt with an absolute majority," he said. He also hit out at Stalin for not preventing the Karnataka govt from going ahead with the Mekedatu dam project. "Congress is ruling in Karnataka. DMK and Congress are part of the INDIA bloc. Why can't you (Stalin) talk to Congress and resolve the Mekedatu dam row?" he asked. He said that Karnataka has sought permission from the Centre to construct the dam, EPS alleged that neither the CM nor water resources minister have spoken anything about it. "If Mekedatu dam was built , Cauvery delta region in Tamil Nadu would become a desert," he said.

BJP has failed to provide proper facilities to kanwariyas: Akhilesh

1 2 Lucknow: Accusing the UP govt of having failed to set up dedicated corridors for hassle-free movement of kanwariyas and devotees, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav held the BJP responsible for the incident where a CRPF jawan was manhandled on kanwariya route. Talking to media outside the Parliament on the opening day of the monsoon session on recent remarks of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about "fake social media accounts peddling falsehood to call kanwariyas rioters", he said: "Those who are levelling such allegations are the biggest rioters themselves. Anyone who has studied law will know who has the most cases of rioting lodged against them. People who are calling others (opposition) rioters, have maximum case of rioting against them. " On kanwariyas being associated with violent incidents, Akhilesh said BJP govts in UP and at the Centre were responsible for the situation. "In the past nine years in UP and 11 years at the Centre, the BJP has presented 20 budgets worth lakhs of crores of rupees but failed to give facilities to devotees and kanwariyas," Akhilesh said. "Kanwariyas have been following a tradition that started centuries ago. Had the govt constructed dedicated corridors for kanwariyas, incidents like manhandling of personnel from armed forces would not have taken place. The way a member of our armed forces was assaulted is concerning," Akhilesh said. The SP chief had on Saturday posted a video of how a man, identified as a CRPF jawan, was repeatedly kicked and punched by men clad in saffron. Asked about the issues that the opposition wanted to raise in the Lok Sabha, Akhilesh said the Pahalgam terror attack issue was very important. "All Opposition parties want that there should be a discussion on Pahalgam terror attack. The govt should disclose what had happened and if there was any intelligence failure. The PM and the govt should hear the opposition out. We as the opposition will listen to what the govt has to say," he added. SP workers shower petals on kanwariyas On the second Monday of Shrawan, SP functionaries welcomed kanwariyas by showering flower petals on them and offering them water and refreshments apart from medical aid at several locations in western UP districts. One such camp was held in Muradnagar in Ghaziabad which was organised by former MLC Rakesh Yadav.
