The Hong Kong Observatory will cancel a No 1 tropical cyclone warning on Sunday afternoon as Typhoon Danas moves away from the city, with the forecaster also warning residents to be wary of the extreme heat. 'In the past few hours, Danas accelerated northeastwards, moving away from Hong Kong gradually. The Observatory will cancel all tropical cyclone warning signals at 2.20pm' it said. Danas, which means 'to experience' or 'to feel' in Tagalog, was estimated to be about 460km east of Hong Kong at around 1pm, the forecaster said. It is expected to move northeast at about 10km/h in the direction of the western coast of Taiwan in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait. The forecaster also issued a very hot weather warning at 10.45am, as temperatures across the city reached 34 degrees Celsius or above by noon.

T1 warning to remain in force on Saturday as hot weather grips Hong Kong
This story has been made freely available as a public service to our readers. Please consider supporting SCMP's journalism by subscribing . New users who download our updated app get a seven-day free trial. A No 1 typhoon warning will remain in force on Saturday, the Hong Kong Observatory has said, adding that the chance of issuing a higher signal is 'rather low'. The forecaster also issued a very hot weather warning at 6.45am, with temperatures in some districts expected to reach 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) or above on Saturday and Sunday. 'The circulation of [tropical cyclone] Danas is relatively small. Unless it intensifies significantly and adopts a track closer to the Pearl River Estuary, there will not be strong winds generally over the territory,' it said. According to the forecaster, Danas will move slowly over the northeastern part of the South China Sea and skirt about 400km (248 miles) southeast of Hong Kong for the rest of Saturday and Sunday morning. Danas, which means 'to experience' or 'to feel' in Tagalog, is expected to accelerate northeastwards in the direction of the western coast of Taiwan to the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait.
