Edinburgh locals praise 'lovely' Andy Murray after spotting him at shopping centre
Sports star Andy Murray was spotted in Edinburgh's city centre on Thursday afternoon.
The retired tennis champion was seen outside St James Quarter around 2.45pm on June 19 leaving locals starstruck.
After taking photos with fans while waiting for a takeaway coffee, some noted how "lovely" the 38-year-old was during the interactions.
He was pictured posing with a family before walking down near the Playhouse ahead of his sold-out show.
One local who caught sight of the star said: "I was walking down from the St James Quarter when I saw a family taking a picture with someone, he walked past and I realised it was Andy Murray.
"He went up to get a coffee and someone who was in line next to him stopped me to say how lovely he was to him.
"It was crazy to see him walking about the streets of Edinburgh. I think he went down to the Playhouse after that."
Murray is taking on a completely different venture throughout the summer with his Centre Stage theatre shows.
The tour is taking place over four dates in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and two in London. He is taking to stage at the Playhouse on Thursday evening after tickets sold out back in November.
We reported a number of fans were able to secure a seat, but hundreds were left disappointed after the quick sell out.
One fan said on X, formally known as Twitter: "Went online at exactly 10am for Edinburgh Playhouse tickets and was already 1723 in the queue.
"Sold out in about two minutes. Might need some more Scottish dates @andy_murray."

Another devastated fan wrote: "You're going to need a bigger venue or do more shows, please please please. I logged on five secs after the tickets went on sale for Edinburgh to find there were already 2,500 people in front of me in the queue.
"Sold out by 10.15 so no chance."
The show is set to put Andy in the limelight as he shares stories from his sporting years, with 46 titles under his belt. He will be providing insight into his relationship with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer as BBC commentator Andrew Cotter interviews him on stage.
Sharing the news on social media, Andy said: "I am stepping onto a different stage this summer. Come and see me on my first ever theatre tour, with Andrew Cotter, in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Hammersmith and Wimbledon."

BBC Strictly Come Dancing in 'cocaine scandal' as probe launched into drug claims on set
The BBC is said to have launched an investigation into cocaine allegations made against two stars Strictly stars The BBC has reportedly engaged a leading law firm to probe allegations of cocaine use by two stars of Strictly Come Dancing, amid claims that their substance misuse was widely known on the show. It's been reported tonight that former contestants, professional dancers, and crew members are being asked to share any concerns they may have with solicitors at Pinsent Masons. The popular BBC series, which has been hit by numerous scandals in recent years, is now mired in controversy following drug use allegations submitted to the BBC in March by Russells Solicitors on behalf of a celebrity contestant. It's understood that more individuals have also made allegations of drug use on Strictly Come Dancing to the BBC, reports the Mirror. In a statement given to the Mirror, a spokesperson for the BBC said: "We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further." The Sun reports that one of the allegations involves a Strictly star who allegedly remarked on another person's dilated pupils, suggesting drug intoxication, by saying: "Have you seen their pupils . . . they're off their face". Moreover, The Sun has reported that a celebrity has claimed it's well-known within the show's circle that two stars were using cocaine, a topic reportedly widespread among the cast. An insider stated: "These claims are extremely serious and should be taken as such. Given only last year that the BBC's Director-General promised to clean up Strictly, it seems particularly shocking. "The idea of the show's stars discussing drug-taking is deeply disturbing. The BBC have known about these allegations for some time, and acknowledged receiving them." It's been reported that the state-funded broadcaster is "taking firm action". The development comes just weeks before the BBC officially unveils this year's Strictly Come Dancing cast. Every year, anticipation builds as fans eagerly await the line-up reveal and 2025 is shaping up to be no different. The rumour mill is in full swing, with speculation swirling around a wide range of potential contestants, including stars from reality television, soaps and even former athletes. Excitement is mounting, and while no appearances have been confirmed, the buzz surrounding their possible involvement has fans talking. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
