Sam Kerr's fiancée Kristie Mewis looks strained as she steps out with Matildas superstar in Perth after getting some awful news

Daily Mail13 hours ago
Football star Kristie Mewis wore a strained expression while stepping out in Perth with fiancée Sam Kerr and new son Jagger, just days after confirming her shock departure from West Ham.
The new family of three, who recently returned from a beachside holiday in Spain, made a rare public appearance together in Kerr's home town on Sunday morning.
The sporting power couple, dressed casually with their two-month-old son in a carrier, enjoyed brunch with Kerr's parents before later catching up with Matildas star Emily van Egmond.
Kerr is back in Perth for the Matildas' matches in Western Australia, with their last outing against Panama coming on Tuesday.
The Matildas skipper is not part of the Aussie squad for the four friendlies as she continues to recover from the serious knee injury she sustained in January last year.
Last week, West Ham announced that Mewis's time with the club has come to an end.
The 34-year-old joined the Hammers in 2023, but only managed four appearances during her spell with the Women's Super League club.
She had just got back into training in preparation for a return to the field before the sad news about her career became public.
Club manager Rehanne Skinner said: 'On behalf of everyone at the Club, I would like to thank Kristie for her contributions to West Ham United during her time in east London.
'Kristie has been unlucky with injuries since she joined us so probably hasn't played in the famous Claret and Blue as many times as she would have liked, but it's still been a total pleasure having someone of her calibre and experience within our team environment.
'As Kristie starts to navigate her new norm of motherhood, we fully appreciate that her priorities have changed and so, whatever the future has in store for her and her family, I would like to wish them all the very best.'
Mewis confirmed the news later with a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the Hammers for the support they provided.
'Even though my time at West Ham was not what I envisioned, I still learned so much and met so many amazing people,' she said.
'Everyone, but especially my teammates were incredibly supportive through my injury and pregnancy and I can't thank them enough for it. Nothing has been more important to me than football… but having my son has changed that.
Mewis (pictured left with Kerr and van Egmond) revealed her shock at her exit from West Ham, writing that her time with the club was 'not what I envisioned'
'Thank you @westhamwomen and thank you for helping me become a mom.'
Kerr and Mewis' relationship began around 2020, gaining public attention during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 when they shared a heartfelt moment on the field.
They officially confirmed their relationship in August 2021 through an Instagram post.
In September 2023, they got engaged, announcing it publicly in November of the same year.
Their engagement was followed by the news in November 2024 that they were expecting their first child.
They are expected to marry in December this year.

‘Open-minded' Andy Farrell says Lions Test places still up for grabs

Andy Farrell picked his strongest British and Irish Lions team to take on ACT Brumbies with a warning they have yet to guarantee their selection for the first Test against Australia. Maro Itoje returns as captain for the Canberra showdown to lead a starting XV full of players considered first choice in their positions, including half-backs Jamison Gibson-Park and Finn Russell. Advertisement The Brumbies are the strongest of Australia's Super Rugby franchises, having finished third in the table, and the fixture is being treated as a dry run for the series opener against the Wallabies on July 19th. Our team to face the Brumbies in Canberra! 🦁 #Lions2025 — British & Irish Lions (@lionsofficial) July 7, 2025 But Farrell insisted his Lions stars still have to earn the jersey after leaving the door open for others to stake their claim, with Saturday's match against an AUNZ Invitational XV the final opportunity to impress. 'The truth of the matter is we have got a good side that's going to take the field on Wednesday and I will tell you what I said to the team,' the head coach said. 'There's always going to be speculation, but it's up to people to put their best foot forward for a Test spot from now on in with regards to the chance they have got on Wednesday and on Saturday. Advertisement 'Players can play themselves in and players can play themselves out, but we are looking for a cohesive team performance and that is what we are trying to achieve. 'There has to be movement in selection. The nature of the format of these two games allows for us to be open-minded. 'We play on Saturday after this and have four weeks worth of training, so you have to stay open-minded. A closed book is not good for anyone. 'I wouldn't call it a blank slate, you have always got ideas, but you need to leave wriggle room for things to unfold and make a judgement on what you see over the next couple of games.' Advertisement Providing X-factor on the bench are back row Henry Pollock and versatile playmaker Marcus Smith in an opportunity for both England stars to prove they are viable options against Australia. In normal circumstances flanker Tom Curry and prop Tadhg Furlong would be assured of Test places, but they need big games following underwhelming tours so far. Prop Ellis Genge, flanker Ollie Chessum and full-back Blair Kinghorn must also put their best foot forwards amid fierce competition for places. The likes of Dan Sheehan, Itoje, Gibson-Park, Russell and Jack Conan are nailed-on starters. After a disappointing performance against the New South Wales Waratahs on Saturday, the Lions are looking to build momentum before heading to Adelaide for their penultimate midweek game. Prop Cameron Orr has also been drafted in for this game and could also make his Brumbies debut from the bench. 'The last two occasions we have played the Brumbies there have been four points in it, for and against. We know the challenge ahead and it's something we have been looking forward to. 'I have heard reports of how enthusiastic and good training has been for the Brumbies as you would expect when the Lions are coming to town.' Advertisement
