Gary Busey legal troubles continue over claims from the 2022 Monster-Mania in Cherry Hill

Yahoo03-04-2025
When several women claimed Gary Busey sexually harassed them in Cherry Hill in 2022, the actor denied wrongdoing and asked police officers to relay his apologies to his accusers, a court record says.
But two of the women are still waiting to hear from the Hollywood star — in response to a lawsuit they filed against him last year.
Busey, 80, is accused of grabbing the buttocks at least two female fans during a photo shoot at a Monster-Mania convention, according to a probable cause statement for criminal charges against him.
Conviction upheld: Man who killed at age 15 loses court challenge
He also allegedly placed his face near another woman's breast and 'asked her where she got them, before attempting to unlatch her bra strap,' the statement claims.
When contacted by police over the women's accusations, the statement says, Busey 'initially denied groping anyone before asking detectives to apologize to the victims, then asking detectives to talk the victims out of pursuing complaints."
It alleges he also told police 'that sometimes it is possible to accidentally touch someone in a specific body part.'
Busey, a resident of Malibu, appeared by video in a Camden courtroom for a March 24 hearing on the criminal charges. Through an attorney he pleaded not guilty to five counts of criminal sexual contact and noted a pending application for pre-trial intervention.
But court records show Busey has not answered the women's civil suit, which was filed in Camden Superior Court in August 2024.
The women, identified only as New York residents J.E. and A.D., allege that they were 'sexually, emotionally and psychologically abused' by Busey. It contends the actor 'also sexually assaulted additional individuals' at the show in August 2022.
Busey, an Oscar nominee for the title role in The Buddy Holly Story in 1979, came to Cherry Hill for Monster-Mania, a weekend convention intended particularly for fans of horror films. The event typically draws a free-spirited crowd, with many participants in macabre costumes.
Notice of the suit was served Sept. 4, 2024, to the actor's address, where it was accepted by his son, actor Jake Busey, a court record says.
The women's attorney, Christine Lafferty of Cherry Hill, on Nov. 11 asked Superior Court Judge Michael Kassel to enter a finding of default against Busey 'for failure to plead or otherwise defend.'
Kassel on Nov. 18 entered a default order, which could still be lifted if Busey engages in the suit.
Busey's attorney for the criminal case, Blair Zwillman of Morristown, said he has no role in the civil litigation.
Among other claims, the suit asserts the women were 'targeted, coerced and sexually assaulted as a result of being female.'
It seeks unspecified damages, as well as recovery of the women's legal costs.
'It's not surprising that Mr. Busey has not answered the complaint,' Lafferty said Monday.
'At every turn, Mr. Busey has shirked his responsibilities to answer for his actions. We will not allow his inaction to thwart our client's pursuit of justice,' she added.
The suit also names Monster-Mania, its operator David Hagan of Mays Landing and ownership of the Doubletree Hilton as defendants. They have denied wrongdoing.
The suit asserts that Busey was a Monster-Mania employee during the weekend event. It says the show's organizer and the hotel failed to protect the women.
J.E. and A.D. called Cherry Hill police to the Route 70 hotel after finding no one at the show to assist them, according to the suit.
The father of another female fan called Cherry Hill police the next day to report that his daughter claimed Busey had groped her.

Jamie Lee Curtis confirms a ‘Murder, She Wrote' reboot: ‘It's happening'

That's not all she wrote. Jamie Lee Curtis has confirmed that she will star in a 'Murder, She Wrote' reboot. 'Oh, it's… happening,' Curtis told Entertainment Tonight. 'We're a minute away, but yeah, [I'm] very excited. Very excited,' the 'Halloween' actress, 66, added. 'But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I'll get to enjoy that work.' 7 Jamie Lee Curtis attends the 'Freakier Friday' LA premiere on July 22, 2025. The original 'Murder, She Wrote' ran on CBS for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996. Lansbury died at age 96 in 2022. ''Murder, She Wrote' has given me more worldwide attention than any other role I played in the movies or on the stage,' she said in 2013 while receiving an honorary Oscar. 'It's a wonderful thing to be known in Spain, Portugal, in Paris, in France and Germany and everywhere.' The reboot movie starring the 'Haunted Mansion' actress was first reported in December. It will be a film written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Curtis has enjoyed a career resurgence lately, as she reprised her 'Halloween' role in the 2018 movie, won an Oscar in 2023 (in the 'best supporting actress' category for 'Everything Everywhere All At Once') and she's in the buzzy Hulu show, 'The Bear.' She's also set to reprise her modern classic 'Freaky Friday' role in the upcoming sequel, 'Freakier Friday,' premiering Aug. 8. 7 Jamie Lee Curtis at the premiere for 'Freakier Friday' in LA on July 22, 2025. On 'Murder, She Wrote,' behind the scenes, Lansbury was known for helping hire older actors in guest roles, who had dwindling careers and needed work in order to qualify for their Screen Actors Guild medical/dental benefits. Randall Bosley, a former extra from 'Murder, She Wrote' told the LA Times in 2023 about an incident when Lansbury passed the Craft Services table on set, and saw a paltry offering of only chips, coffee, and water. Bosley recalled that Lansbury said, 'This is unacceptable. I want my people well taken care of. I'm going back to my trailer and I'm not coming back until this table is properly stocked with nourishing food and drink for everyone.' Bosley said, 'Soon thereafter the craft service table was filled with the most wonderful array of food and drink. It became well known among people doing extra work that this was a show you really wanted to work on.'

Travis Kelce Has an Unexpected Evil Role in 'Happy Gilmore 2'

THE RUNDOWN Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2 revisits the 1996 Adam Sandler movie and brings back much of the original cast, including Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald. It's also filled with celebrity cameos, including Travis Kelce, Margaret Qualley, and Bad Bunny. Kelce, who went Instagram official with Taylor Swift this week, appears in a scene that takes place in a country club restaurant the night before a major tournament, alluding to the famous Champions Dinner that takes place days before the annual Masters Tournament. In it, Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) appears with several real-life golf stars including Jordan Speith, Rickie Fowler, and Keegan Bradley. Kelce and Bad Bunny play waiters. Kelce's character, who is credited as The Waiter, puts on a phony niceness while serving the golfers, then turns nasty when he fires Bad Bunny's character, Oscar, for an understandable mistake. Kelce's character is revisited in a later scene. Happy asks Oscar, who has now become his caddy, to imagine his 'happy place.' In the fantasy sequence The Waiter is tied to a pole with his shirt off. Oscar slathers him in honey and then lets him be devoured by a bear. Oscar watches, satisfied. Despite the violent turn of events, Kelce has said that working on the long-awaited sequel was a 'dream.' '[Sandler] is every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen. That was a dream come true. That was awesome,' he said on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this year. Kelce's previously appeared onscreen in Ryan Murphy's FX series Grotesquerie in 2024 and on Saturday Night Live, as a host in 2023. 'Travis is such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell,' Sandler later told Entertainment Tonight. 'He's like the guys I grew up with. When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.' The Kansas City Chiefs training camp began last Sunday, causing Kelce to miss the film's premiere in New York City. Watch Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix Watch Happy Gilmore (1996) on Prime Video

Hulk Hogan, the iconic WWE Hall of Famer who died on Thursday at the age of 71, had been a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump prior to his death. The professional wrestler suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida. The Clearwater Police Department said emergency crews responded to a 911 call at Hogan's residence, and he was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan made his televised wrestling debut in 1979 and skyrocketed to fame after signing with the World Wrestling Federation, now known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Hogan's manager, Linda Bose, confirmed his death in a statement to Newsweek. "Unfortunately we must confirm that Terry Bollea, aka Hulk Hogan passed away this morning," she said. "We are heartbroken. He was such a great human being and friend." Hulk Hogan rips his shirt as he speaks on the fourth day of the Republican National Convention at the Fiserv Forum on July 18, 2024 in Milwaukee, is survived by his wife, Sky Daily, whom he married in 2023. He also leaves behind his two children, Brooke Hogan and Nick Hogan, from his 26-year marriage to ex-wife Linda Hogan, which ended in 2009. Hogan and Trump had known each other for decades—Trump hosted several WrestleManias in the 1980s—but it wasn't until last year that the Hogan Knows Best star shared his support for the businessman. Newsweek reached out to Trump's representative for comment on Friday via email outside regular working hours. Hulk Hogan Endorses Trump In July 2024, Hogan endorsed Trump for president at the Republican National Convention (RNC), just days after the assassination attempt against the politician. "What happened last week when they took a shot at my hero and they tried to kill the next President of the United States, enough was enough," Hogan told the crowd at the event, before ripping off his shirt, his signature move. "I said, 'Let Trump-a-mania run wild, brother. Let Trump-a-mania rule again. Let Trump-a-mania make America great again.'" "As an entertainer, I try to stay out of politics," Hogan continued. "But after everything that's happened to our country over the past four years, and everything that happened last weekend, I can no longer stay silent." "I'm proud to support my hero as the next president of this United States," he added, noting that he'd known Trump "for over 35 years." "He's always been the biggest patriot, and he still is. He's always told you exactly what he thought, and he still does, brother," Hogan said. "No matter the odds, he always finds a way to win. And when he's back in our White House, America is going to start winning again." The Rocky III actor concluded his speech: "Over my career, I've been in the ring with some of the biggest, some of the baddest dudes on the planet. I know tough guys, but let me tell you something, brother, Donald Trump is the toughest of them all. They've thrown everything at Donald Trump, all the investigations, the impeachments, the court cases, and he's still standing and kicking their butts." "I was one of these guys that was a coward. I was one of these guys that wouldn't put a Trump sign on my yard, wouldn't wear the Trump shirt, the Trump hat, because I was afraid what might happen or whatever," Hogan said on the show, per Fox News. "But after they took that shot and tried to kill him, that was it." He later reflected on their friendship. "I've watched how he's treated people. He had that [air] about him when we first met him, and I was like, 'Am I going to get along with this guy?'" he said. "And just to watch him walk in the beginning of the night when the preliminary match started and sit there all night long, and just how he talked to all the wrestlers in the back and how kind he was to people, and I saw how he handled the Make-A-Wish kids. I watched this guy: 'Man, this brother's for real.' And I got to know him. I love him to death." Hogan Speaks at Trump Rally Before Election Day One week before Election Day, Hogan made a surprise appearance at Trump's rally in Madison Square Garden. "You know something, Trump-a-maniacs? I don't see no stinking Nazis in here. I don't see no stinking domestic terrorists in here," he said. "The only thing that I see in here are a bunch of hard-working men and women that are real Americans, brother. You know what I hear in my president and our president Donald Trump, he sounds for real, brother. He sounds like he has a heart of gold that's all for the USA." Trump and the White House React to Hogan's Death Trump posted to Truth Social on Thursday: "We lost a great friend today, the 'Hulkster.' Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way—Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart. He gave an absolutely electric speech at the Republican National Convention, that was one of the highlights of the entire week. He entertained fans from all over the World, and the cultural impact he had was massive. To his wife, Sky, and family, we give our warmest best wishes and love. Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed!" The White House's official X account shared on Thursday: "Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed!" Hogan's Political History Hogan had supported former Democratic President Barack Obama in the 2008 election. In 2011, however, he expressed regret in his decision. "I was a big Obama supporter and kinda, like, believed everything he said he was gonna do," Hogan said on Fox & Friends, per Politico. "But now that nothing's happened." In the 2012 presidential election, Hogan said he would likely vote for the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, over Obama. "That's where I'm at right now," he told HuffPost Live at the time. "Something needs to change in this country. There's no reason why this country shouldn't be up and running and everybody healthy and happy and prosperous. We need a change. I'm just waiting for someone to take the lead and run."
