Adobe raises annual forecasts on steady adoption of AI-powered tools
(Reuters) -Adobe raised its full-year results forecast on Thursday, helped by continued demand for its AI-powered software tools that generate images and video content.
The company, an industry veteran in the creative software market, is known for its flagship products, such as Photoshop and Premiere Pro, which have become essential tools for professionals worldwide.
Despite a weak first quarter marked by budget constraints and project delays amid macroeconomic uncertainties, Jefferies analysts said demand seemed to start recovering in the second quarter as clients resumed stalled projects and adjusted to the changing environment, supporting ongoing growth targets.
Adobe expects revenue to be between $23.50 billion and $23.60 billion in fiscal 2025, compared with its prior range of $23.30 billion to $23.55 billion.
Excluding items, it raised its full-year profit to between $20.50 and $20.70 per share, from its prior range of $20.20 to $20.50 each.
"We continue to invest in AI innovation across our customer groups to enhance value realization and expand the universe of customers we serve," finance chief Dan Durn said.
In 2023, Adobe launched Firefly, which enablesusers to create, edit and enhance images and videos from simple text prompts.
Powered by ethically sourced training from exclusively licensed or public domain images, Adobe Firefly expands the company's AI-driven creative tools, enabling users to accelerate ideation and content creation while ensuring brand safety and copyright compliance.
Adobe said in April it was integrating image-generation AI models from OpenAI and Google into its Firefly app.
Revenue for the second quarter stood at $5.87 billion, above the analysts' average estimate of $5.79 billion.
Adobe's outlook for third-quarter results was also above estimates.

GE Vernova to buy France's Alteia for enhancing AI tools for utilities
(Reuters) -Power equipment maker GE Vernova will buy France-based Alteia, which makes artificial intelligence-based tools that allow utility companies to review their grids, it said on Monday. GE Vernova already offers Alteia's software to customers through its GridOS Visual Intelligence. The tool helps utilities assess damage and inspect assets along thousands of miles of electrical lines. The acquisition will enhance this system through visual and operational data, allowing the companies to "see and sense" the grid, GE Vernova said. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition, which is expected to close on August 1. GE Vernova has highlighted that growth in its electrification software segment — which includes the GridOS system — could rapidly accelerate, RBC Capital Markets analyst Christopher Dendrinos said. The segment has been growing at mid-single digit percentage rates in the past couple of years, he said. Surging power demand from data centers used for AI and cryptocurrency technologies has boosted GE Vernova, which was spun off from General Electric last year. The power demand is expected to hit an all-time high this year. The company is expected to release its second-quarter earnings report on July 23 before the bell. Eutelsat signs strategic partnership with UK government for its LEO network access

Philippines' Marcos to meet Trump, hoping to secure trade deal that is favourable to both allied countries
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr will be the first South-East Asian leader to meet US President Donald Trump in his second term. -- Reuters WASHINGTON/MANILA (Reuters): Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. meets US President Donald Trump this week, hoping Manila's status as a key Asian ally will secure a more favorable trade deal before an August 1 deadline. Marcos will be the first South-East Asian leader to meet Trump in his second term. Trump has already struck trade deals with two of Manila's regional partners, Vietnam and Indonesia, driving tough bargains in trade talks even with close allies that Washington needs to keep onside in its strategic rivalry with China. "I expect our discussions to focus on security and defense, of course, but also on trade," Marcos said in a speech before leaving Manila. "We will see how much progress we can make when it comes to the negotiations with the United States concerning the changes that we would like to institute to alleviate the effects of a very severe tariff schedule on the Philippines." The United States had a deficit of nearly $5 billion with the Philippines last year on bilateral goods trade of US$23.5 billion. Trump this month raised the threatened "reciprocal" tariffs on imports from the Philippines to 20% from 17% threatened in April. Although U.S. allies in Asia such as Japan and South Korea have yet to strike trade deals with Trump, Gregory Poling, a Southeast Asia expert at Washington's Center for Strategic and International Studies, said Marcos might be able to do better than Vietnam, with its agreement of a 20% baseline tariff on its goods, and Indonesia at 19%. "I wouldn't be surprised to see an announcement of a deal with the Philippines at a lower rate than those two," Poling said. Marcos, who arrived in Washington on Sunday, is due to hold talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Monday before meeting Trump at the White House on Tuesday. He will also meet U.S. business leaders investing in the Philippines during his trip. 'MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL' DEAL Philippine officials say Marcos' focus will be on economic cooperation and Manila's concerns about the tariffs. They say he will stress that Manila must become economically stronger if it is to serve as a truly robust partner for the U.S. in the Indo-Pacific. Philippine Assistant Foreign Secretary Raquel Solano said last week trade officials have been working with U.S. counterparts seeking to seal a "mutually acceptable and mutually beneficial" deal for both countries. Trump and Marcos will also discuss defense and security, and Solano said the Philippine president would be looking to further strengthen the longstanding defense alliance. With the Philippines facing intense pressure from China in the contested South China Sea, Marcos has pivoted closer to the U.S., expanding its access to Philippine military bases amid China's threats towards Taiwan, the democratically governed island claimed by Beijing. The United States and the Philippines have a seven-decade-old mutual defense treaty and hold dozens of annual exercises, which have included training with U.S. Typhon missile system, and more recently with the NMESIS anti-ship missile system, angering China. Manila and the U.S. have closely aligned their views on China, Poling said, and it is notable that Rubio and Hegseth made sure their Philippine counterparts were the first Southeast Asian officials they met. Poling said Trump also seemed to have a certain warmth towards Marcos, based on their phone call after the election.
