Globetrotting Paris mayor's trips raise questions

As Paris Saint-Germain lifted the Champions League trophy in Munich on Saturday, May 31, one official . The mayor of Paris had, for once, passed on a trip, even with her city's club playing to become champions of Europe. While the relationship between the Socialist and the Qatari president of PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is notoriously strained, her staff cited "scheduling issues" to explain her absence. It must be said Hidalgo only had 48 hours to spend in France this weekend, between two trips: one to Kenya, from May 29 to 30, and one to Switzerland on June 2. The mayor of the French capital has never hidden her keen interest in international affairs and her travel log speaks for itself. Since January, Hidalgo has made at least 12 trips abroad, spanning nearly every continent: Poland (twice) and Mauritania in January, Belgium and Morocco in February, the United States, Italy and Vietnam in April, Spain, Belgium and Kenya in May, and Switzerland in June. In 2024, she visited Poland, Ukraine, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, the US, Spain, Brazil and Morocco. In 2023, her travels included Ukraine, Italy, Poland, Iraq, Belgium, Iceland, Armenia, the US, Benin and Dubai.
