Bob Vylan Addresses Glastonbury Controversy: 'We Are Not for the Death of Jews'
'We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs, or any other race or group of people,' the duo wrote in a post on Instagram on Tuesday. 'We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine — a machine whose own soldiers were told to use 'unnecessary lethal force' against innocent civilians waiting for aid. A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza.'

Bob Vylan garnered significant criticism over the 'death to the IDF' chants during their set last weekend, with Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis writing that their words 'very much crossed a line and we are urgently reminding everyone involved in the production of the festival that there is no place at Glastonbury for antisemitism, hate speech or incitement to violence.'
UTA subsequently dropped Bob Vylan, and the U.S. State Department revoked their visas, putting their upcoming North American tour in jeopardy. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau wrote on X on Monday that 'foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country.'
The BBC also shared a statement saying the network regretted livestreaming Bob Vylan's Glastonbury set, further stating that 'the antisemitic sentiments expressed by Bob Vylan were utterly unacceptable and have no place on our airwaves.'
Of the backlash, Bob Vylan wrote on Tuesday that the duo 'are not the story' and argued that they were 'being targeted for speaking up,' further encouraging their fans to continue to speak out on the matter.
'We are a distraction from the story. And whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction,' Bob Vylan said. 'The government doesn't want us to ask why they remain silent in the face of this atrocity. To ask why they aren't doing more to stop the killing. To feed the starving. The more time they talk about Bob Vylan, the less time they spend answering for their criminal inaction.'

Bob Vylan Frontman Speaks Out After Band Is Dropped From Manchester Music Festival
The punk rap duo Bob Vylan have spoken out after it was reported that they had been dropped from a music festival in Manchester. Over the weekend, the band caused controversy when they led the crowd at their Glastonbury set in a chant of 'death to the IDF', in reference to Israel's army. After facing condemnation from UK prime minister Sir Keir Starmer, the BBC – which broadcast the set live and uncensored on its iPlayer service – and Glastonbury's organisers, it was revealed that a criminal investigation was underway following sets by both Bob Vylan and fellow performers Kneecap. On Wednesday, BBC News reported that, in the wake of the controversy, Bob Vylan had been dropped from the line-ups of Radar Festival in Manchester, and Kave Fest in France. Reacting to the news, frontman Bobby Vylan wrote on Instagram: 'Silence is not an option. We will be fine, the people of Palestine are hurting.' 'Manchester we will be back,' he then vowed. Bobby previously addressed the Glastonbury furore in an Instagram post captioned: 'I said what I said.' He and bandmate Bobbie Vylan then released a joint statement which read: 'We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine. A machine whose own soldiers were told to use 'unnecessary lethal force' against innocent civilians waiting for aid. A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza.' Referring to the activist group Palestine Action and fellow Glastonbury performers Kneecap, the duo continued: 'We, like those in the spotlight before us, are not the story. We are a distraction from the story. And whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction. 'The government doesn't want us to ask why they remain silent in the face of this atrocity. To ask why they aren't doing more to stop the killing. To feed the starving. The more they talk about Bob Vylan, the less they spend answering for their criminal inaction. 'We are being targeted for speaking up. We are not the first. We will not be the last. And if you care for the sanctity of human life and freedom of speech, we urge you to speak up, too.' Avon and Somerset Police said on Tuesday: 'Video footage and audio from Bob Vylan and Kneecap's performances at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday has been reviewed. 'Following the completion of that assessment process we have decided further enquiries are required and a criminal investigation is now being undertaken. A senior detective has been appointed to lead this investigation.' Xbox Games Cancelled as Microsoft Slashes 9000 Jobs
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Microsoft has reportedly cancelled Everwild, an in-development game from UK-based Sea of Thieves developer Rare, and potentially other projects amid a round of layoffs that will see the company lose upwards of 9000 employees. The layoffs were first reported by Bloomberg, which revealed that 10% of staff at Candy Crush developer King – recently purchased by Microsoft alongside Activision and Blizzard – were set to be laid off. Further reporting from the outlet revealed that 9000 employees would be laid off at the software giant, with many of those layoffs coming from within the Microsoft Gaming and Xbox banner. Microsoft In a memo to Xbox staff obtained by IGN, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said the company would "end or decrease work in certain areas of the business" in an effort to "increase agility and effectiveness." The full memo can be read here, courtesy of IGN: Today we are sharing decisions that will impact colleagues across our organization. To position Gaming for enduring success and allow us to focus on strategic growth areas, we will end or decrease work in certain areas of the business and follow Microsoft's lead in removing layers of management to increase agility and effectiveness. Out of respect for those impacted today, the specifics of today's notifications and any organizational shifts will be shared by your team leaders in the coming days. I recognize that these changes come at a time when we have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger. The success we're seeing currently is based on tough decisions we've made previously. We must make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities. We will protect what is thriving and concentrate effort on areas with the greatest potential, while delivering on the expectations the company has for our business. This focused approach means we can deliver exceptional games and experiences for players for generations to come. Prioritizing our opportunities is essential, but that does not lessen the significance of this moment. Simply put, we would not be where we are today without the time, energy, and creativity of those whose roles are impacted. These decisions are not a reflection of the talent, creativity, and dedication of the people involved. Our momentum is not accidental — it is the result of years of dedicated effort from our teams. HR is working directly with impacted employees to provide severance plan benefits (aligned with local laws), including pay, healthcare coverage, and job placement resources to support their transition. Employees whose roles were eliminated are encouraged to explore open positions across Microsoft Gaming, where their applications will be given priority review. Thank you to everyone who has shaped our culture, our products, and our community. We will move forward with deep appreciation and respect for all who have contributed to this journey. Phil Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier also confirmed on Bluesky that Rare's project Everwild had been cancelled, saying that the news is "coming in drips" and to expect more news of project cancellations and job cuts in the coming hours and days. The full scale of today's Xbox layoff is not yet clear, but you can expect more news of project cancelations and job cuts as the U.S. west coast wakes up. Some studios are planning meetings within the next two hours. — Jason Schreier (@ 2025-07-02T14:42:49.219Z It comes after multiple rounds of layoffs for the software and gaming giant, with over 6000 employees laid off from the company earlier this year in May. The company similarly laid off 10,000 employees in January 2023. Everwild started development in 2014, and was officially revealed in November 2019. The game was said to be a third-person action-adventure game, with multiple high profile creatives taking on leading roles in the game's development. The game was reportedly scheduled to launch in 2023, before being rebooted and entering development hell, although comments from Spencer in 2024 suggested the game was still on track for a release.

Mehdi Hasan's Zeteo Picks Up Gaza Documentary The BBC Refused To Air
Surgeons operate on a patient at the European Hospital in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip amid ... More the ongoing conflict between Israel and the militant group Hamas. (Photo by SAID KHATIB/AFP via Getty Images) A high-profile documentary about Palestinian doctors working amid wartime conditions in Gaza — which the BBC decided not to broadcast — is now getting a global release, thanks to its acquisition by journalist Mehdi Hasan's media startup Zeteo. The film, Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, was produced by Basement Films and features on-the-ground testimony from healthcare workers trying to save lives amid the destruction of Gaza's hospital system. Zeteo is releasing the documentary globally today, following months of delays and ultimately a final decision by the BBC to pull out of the project entirely. Why Mehdi Hasan's Zeteo backed a Gaza documentary Zeteo, which Hasan launched in 2024 to give voice to underreported stories and independent journalism, framed the acquisition as a stand for editorial independence. 'This is one of the reasons I founded Zeteo … to platform the journalistic voices that are being censored on the biggest issues of our time,' Hasan said in a statement about the documentary. The BBC's reversal, it should be noted, came after what the broadcaster said was a review of a separate Gaza-related documentary. Ultimately, the BBC said airing Gaza: Doctors Under Attack would risk 'creating a perception of partiality.' Basement Films noted that the BBC had initially told them the film passed editorial review — a claim the network disputes. After the BBC ultimately passed on the documentary, however, more than 600 members of the film industry (including actress Susan Sarandon and director Mike Leigh) decided to speak out via an open letter. The BBC, that letter argued, was silencing Palestinian voices. Few modern conflicts have certainly sparked as much global outrage, division, and scrutiny as the war in Gaza — not just because of the war's scale, but for the staggering human toll on civilians. It began with the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, leading to a wide-ranging Israeli military campaign inside Gaza — one which has already claimed thousands of lives and left destruction throughout the region. The crisis has also raised serious concerns over safeguarding civilians, especially medics and aid workers on the front line. Hospitals have fared terribly, with many being destroyed or destroyed. Physicians and nurses are operating with acute power, supply, and protection shortages in order to care for patients. Basement Films has stated that more than 200 of their Palestinian colleagues and partners have died in Gaza since the conflict began. Hasan, a former MSNBC host, launched Zeteo as a subscriber-supported media platform after leaving the network following its cancellation of his weekend show there amid a programming reshuffle. For Zeteo's paid subscribers, the Gaza documentary will be available to stream starting today (July 2) at 5 p.m. ET. In the UK, it will be shown on Channel 4. 'We owe everything to our Palestinian colleagues on the ground … and the doctors and medics who trusted us with their stories,' Basement Films' statement continues, by way of thanking Zeteo and Channel 4 for enabling the film to be seen.
