UMNO–PKR ties in unity govt intact despite Tengku Zafrul's exit
Johari, who is UMNO vice-president, said both parties must remain united in their efforts to ensure the country's political stability.
'For example, in government, I play a role in national development as a minister. Political developments are normal, but they should not affect the strength of our coalition within the Unity Government and the country,' he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the MADANI Adopted Village (KAM) programme handover ceremony for the Plantation and Commodities Ministry (KPK) at Kampung Parit Bilal here today.
Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul, who is Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, announced his resignation as a UMNO Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member.
On today's programme, Johari, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said a total of RM2.5 million has been allocated to Kampung Parit Bilal and Kampung Parit Ahmad under the KPK MADANI Adopted Village initiative.
The funds will go toward implementing various development projects, including upgrading educational facilities, houses of worship and basic infrastructure, he said.
He said the initiative also involves strategic cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, the Batu Pahat district office, Johor state development office, village development and security committees (JPKK) and local community leaders.
'Among the activities planned are entrepreneurship training, such as chocolate-making courses and outreach programmes under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) MyCommodity initiative,' Johari added.

KEPALA BATAS: Umno must embrace new strategies to recapture parliamentary seats it lost in previous elections, including Kepala Batas, according to its vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. He stressed that the party can no longer rely on conventional methods, especially with the changing political landscape influenced by Undi 18. Wan Rosdy highlighted the need for aggressive outreach to younger voters, including students and Pahang-born individuals residing outside the state. PN candidate Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad won with a 2,867-vote majority against Umno's Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican. Wan Rosdy urged local Umno members to strategize effectively to reclaim the seat. He dismissed PN's claims of targeting Pahang in GE16, stating that the opposition relies on sentiment rather than ground realities. 'They do not understand Pahang's actual situation. We are working hard to take back seats won by PN,' he said. Earlier, Bersatu Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah stated that PN had outlined plans to defend its seats and aimed to gain control of Pahang in the next general election.

Umno must adopt bold strategies to avoid losing more seats in next election
KEPALA BATAS: Umno must adopt out-of-the-box strategies to prevent the party from losing more seats in the 16th General Election (GE16), said its vice-president, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. He cited his experience as Pahang Menteri Besar, noting that despite implementing various strategies since 2018, Umno still lost seats in the last general election. As such, he said the party cannot rely on the same methods but must embrace unconventional thinking to avoid being trapped in outdated approaches and repeating past outcomes. "In Pahang, I've tried all sorts of approaches, but it seems Umno is still losing seats. "So, for the upcoming general election, my approach cannot be the same as what was used in GE15. "There must be extraordinary changes. We need to think outside the box," he told reporters after officiating the Kepala Batas Umno Division Meeting here today. He said Umno must assess what needs to be done to make the party more appealing to voters, especially those from the younger generation, before the election. "For instance, we've started engaging more aggressively with young people, including university students and Pahang youth living outside the state, by building connections with 18-year-old voters. "We did this before, but not seriously. That is what I mean by extraordinary thinking, because if we keep using the same approach, we will keep getting the same results, and that has to change," he said. Wan Rosdy added that the progressive and dynamic political landscape demands fresh approaches, particularly with the inclusion of 18-year-old voters who must be respected and actively engaged. "We must change our approach and the kind of assistance we offer. "We cannot keep doing the same things year after year. "In terms of performance, we can improve, but we must also adopt new strategies that will instil confidence in the people," he said.

Zahid outlines BN strategy to recapture three Lumut seats
LUMUT: Barisan Nasional is determined to recapture three seats in Lumut currently held by Perikatan Nasional, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Barisan chairman said the three seats are the Lumut parliamentary seat as well as the Pangkor and Pasir Panjang state seats. He outlined four conditions he said are critical to regaining voter confidence and winning the seats in the 16th General Election. "Firstly, Umno and Barisan leaders in Lumut must stand united, with no room for division. Our political opponents are not as strong as we think… it is our internal weaknesses and the loss of confidence in our own party that have hurt our cause the most. "Old habits such as backstabbing, blaming leaders and finger-pointing must stop immediately. "Unity within the Lumut division is the first and foremost condition for victory," he said when officiating the Lumut Umno representatives meeting at Dewan Merdeka, Majlis Perbandaran Manjung on Sunday (July 6). Also present were Perak Umno chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Lumut Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir. Ahmad Zahid also said victory cannot be achieved alone, and urged Umno members to strengthen ties with their partners in MIC and MCA who are currently facing challenging times. "They stood by us during our hardship. Now it is our turn to support them, to ensure Umno and Barisan candidates dominate both state and parliamentary seats again. The same goes for our cooperation with Pakatan Harapan, " he said. Thirdly, he asked the party to let go of the past and accept today's political reality. "As part of the government, we can no longer act like the dominant party of the past, making demands at will. The people are watching and evaluating our maturity.
