Billy Joel felt 'hurt' by Sir Elton John's rehab comments
The 76-year-old star admits that some "bad blood" developed between himself and Elton, after the Your Song hitmaker publicly suggested that Billy needed to spend some time in rehab.
In the HBO documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes, he says: "Elton had made a comment that he thought I needed real rehab. He chalked it up to, 'Oh, he's a drunk.' And that really hurt me.
"I said wait a minute? Don't you know me better than that? And there was bad blood for a little while. There was a dovetailing of things that happened during that time."
Billy recalled feeling at "rock bottom" when he read Elton's comments.
He said: "I was disillusioned with what I thought it was all supposed to mean. It was like all the signs were pointing to me: enough. And I wrote this letter to the band. 'I don't want to do this anymore. I'm gonna stop.'"
Elton made the comments to Rolling Stone magazine back in 2011, shortly after they toured together.
Elton explained at the time that they had "so many cancelled tours because of illnesses and various other things, alcoholism".
The chart-topping star - who also struggled with addiction in the 70s and 80s - added: "He's going to hate me for this, but every time he goes to rehab they've been light ... I love you Billy, and this is tough love."
Billy actually spent time in rehab in 2005, and he previously acknowledged that addiction has created "problems" in his life.
The singer stopped drinking altogether in 2021, and he insisted that it doesn't bring any value to his life.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times newspaper in 2023, Billy shared: "I stopped a couple of years ago. It wasn't a big Alcoholics Anonymous kick. I just got a point where I'd had enough.
"I didn't enjoy being completely inebriated, and it probably created more problems in my life than I needed. I don't need it now."

'Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections,' she shared. Parker also shared what her legendary character has meant to her over the years. 'Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,' she continued. 'I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion.' Parker than began to conclude her message by saying that her and King 'recognised, as we have in the past, this chapter complete'. I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget the whole thing,' she wrote, before adding a 'Thank you' to fans. 'I love you so. King announced that AJLT will be ending with a statement that was shared on the show's social media accounts on Friday. And Just Like That … the Sex and the City reboot is wrapping up. The series will come to an end with the two-part finale of the third season, which is currently airing. Ten episodes have been released, and the twelfth will be its last, as showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed on Friday, US time. The cast – excluding lead star Sarah Jessica Parker, who also serves as an executive producer – was told just one day earlier, according to Deadline. 'And just like that … the ongoing storytelling of the Sex And The City universe is coming to an end,' said King in a message posted to Instagram. 'While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That … season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12. 'SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.' Demi Lovato releases first single in three years
Demi Lovato has released her first new single in three years. The singer dropped electro-pop track Fast on Friday (01.08.25) after she previously declared she was ready to return to her pop roots after dabbling with a rock sound on her last album Holy Fvck. As she teased the new single in posts on social media, Demi told fans: "My pop music coming back to life after we had a funeral for it." The singer previously held a "funeral" for her pop sound by sharing a picture of herself and her team dressed in black with Demi holding up her middle finger to the camera. She captioned the snap: "A funeral for my pop music". Fast is Demi's first release since she launched Holy Fvck in 2002 which was led by the singles Skin of My Teeth, Substance and 29. Rolling Stone magazine recently reported Demi would be embracing pop again on her next project, with the publication suggesting the album - which will be her ninth studio record - is expected to be released later in the year. She has been working on her new music with songwriter/producer Zhone, who told Rolling Stone they had a lot of fun in the studio together while making the new record. He said: "It's been so inspiring working with Demi and experiencing her journey of continued leveling up. "She is such a master in the studio. This album is about letting inhibitions go, and we had so much fun making this music! It really comes across throughout." A source added to the publication: "Over the past few years, Demi has found love, joy, and newfound confidence, making the choice to approach life with much more lightness and fun. "She took this sentiment into the studio, which can be felt in every track." Demi - who married her fiance Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes in May - previously admitted she was still "figuring out" her sound for the new album but was working on a number of love songs. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last year, Demi explained: "It's true. I'm working on new music. I'm kind of figuring out my sound right now. "I don't know when it'll come out but it'll come out when I'm ready." The host then asked his guest if it would be a max of "happy songs and sad songs" and she replied: "I tend to write from the place that I am in in the moment. Because it's actually been like... it's been amazing. "I've been writing nothing but love songs and sexy songs because I'm in this really good place. It feels good to be able to write coming from that place."
