Iowa baseball pitcher Anthony Watts selected by Cardinals in MLB Draft
As the third Iowa baseball player chosen in the 2025 MLB draft following teammates Cade Obermueller, Daniel Wright, and Aaron Savary, Hawkeyes pitcher Anthony Watts has been selected by the St. Louis Cardinals. Just 15 spots after the Cleveland Guardians selected Savary in the 13th round, St. Louis used the No. 420 overall pick to select Watts in the 14th round on Monday from Atlanta, GA. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound right-handed native of Clive, Iowa, was primarily used as a relief pitcher out of the Hawkeyes' bullpen this past spring, posting a 4-4 record with a 4.72 ERA in 40 innings through 24 appearances. Watts also finished the season with 45 strikeouts, a career-low 19 base-on-balls, 27 hits allowed, and two saves. Watts' selection now increases the number of Hawkeye players drafted under head coach Rick Heller to 37. Watts joined the program before the 2023-24 campaign following one season with Creighton, which gives him one year of NCAA eligibility remaining. Similar to Savary, does not list an approximate pick value for Watts. However, he could elect to return to the Hawkeyes for a senior season by not signing with the Cardinals. If Watts were to sign a professional contract with St. Louis, he would finish his three-year college baseball career with an 8-8 record and a 4.33 ERA on 129 innings pitched through 11 starts in 59 appearances to go along with 129 strikeouts and three games saved. Michigan State baseball commit drafted in sixth round by Los Angeles Angels
A local product and Michigan State baseball commit has gotten drafted in the 2025 MLB Draft. Logan LaCourse, a Bay City (MI) native, was selected with the No. 169 overall pick in the 6th round of the MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels. He has been committed to Michigan State since late 2023. A product of Bay City Western High School, LaCourse was named Michigan's Mr. Baseball and a first-team all-state player in 2025 as a 6-foot-4, 205 pound right handed pitcher. It is unclear if LaCourse is going to sign with the Angels or forgo the draft this time around and sign to play with Michigan State next season. Surely, a competitive NIL offer will be on the table to compete with a minor league baseball contract. Texas A&M right-handed pitcher announces return for junior year in 2026
After battling through the adversity of an illness last season that caused him weight loss and significantly impacted his performance, Texas A&M's 6-foot-4 righty announced he is returning for his junior year. Montgomery, Texas, native Weston Moss added to numerous sources of good news for the Aggie baseball program on Monday by making his decision to remain in College Station official via social media. Before facing the sickness in 2025, Moss recorded a 3.19 ERA and 50 strikeouts through 48 innings of work. In 22 appearances on the mound, he also logged a 6-3 record and one save, while also holding opponents to a .215 batting average. With eight of his teammates selected in the 2025 MLB Draft, Moss was also on the board and awaiting his name to be called. According to TexAgs reporter Ryan Brauninger, he took numerous calls from franchises in the Major Leagues, but did not feel like anything was worth leaving Aggieland. While his stellar numbers on the rubber stand out, his fiery personality and heart make him one of the most beloved Aggies on the roster. Heading into a season in which great bullpen performances will be needed, his announcement sparks much excitement throughout the Aggie fan base. A prime example of his clutch ability came when he tossed six shutout innings and six strikeouts in relief against Kentucky on March 28. Following his outstanding outing facing the Wildcats' lineup, second-year head coach praised Moss for his work on the mound for the Maroon and White. Ranked as the No. 6 right-handed pitcher in the state's 2023 class by Perfect Game USA, Moss made waves for his mentality and swagger. The No. 17 overall prospect in Texas reached a 95 mph velocity as a junior. When he arrived on Texas A&M's campus, he secured a 3-0 record with a 4.56 ERA and 26 punchouts. Moss improved those numbers last year and instantly displayed a knack for setting hitters down and dominating lineups in the most competitive conference in the country. His return for Earley's club in 2026 will provide an exhilarating personality on the mound for the Aggies in a much-needed position. Texas A&M's bullpen has faced a plethora of challenges over the last year and will need all the help it can get against the powerful lineups in the SEC.
