Telangana govt releases Rs 205 crore for Warangal airport land acquisition
WARANGAL: The Telangana government on Friday issued orders for the release of Rs 205 crore for land acquisition for Mamnoor airport in Warangal. The funds will compensate farmers from Nakkalapally, Nalakunta, and Gunturpally villages, where additional land is being acquired. Administrative sanctions and fund withdrawals for the compensation were also approved. The order was issued by the Telangana Transport, Roads and Buildings department, with the funds allocated under the Budget Estimates (BE) for 2025–2026. The order was released by Principal Secretary Sundeep Kumar Sultania. With 696 acres already available, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) requires an additional 253 acres to make the airport operational. Warangal MP Dr Kadiyam Kavya stated that the Congress government is fulfilling a long-standing dream of the people by releasing `205 crore for land acquisition. MGNREGS job cardholders have to complete e-KYC verification within three months: Odisha minister
BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to shed the dubious distinction of having the third highest fake job cards in the country after Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the state government has given MGNREGS cardholders three months time to complete their e-KYC verification. The move has come after Union minister of state for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan in a reply in the Lok Sabha, revealed that Odisha has deleted over 1.44 lakh fake job cards in the last three years. State Panchayati Raj and Rural Development minister Rabi Narayan Naik, however, described the presence of fake cards as a legacy issue inherited from the previous BJD government. 'In the last one year, we have issued around 2 lakh job cards to genuine beneficiaries who were previously left out. Our government is committed to transparency and accountability. Misuse of public money will not be tolerated,' Naik said. He also said the government has been proactive in ensuring that all eligible individuals are covered under welfare schemes such as ration cards, PMAY, PM-Kisan, CM Kisan, and Subhadra Yojana. The e-KYC process, he said, will help weed out ghost entries and ineligible people who have obtained job cards to avail other government benefits. According to official data, the state has issued 66.5 lakh job cards to 1.09 crore people, of which 43.19 lakh cards are currently active. The number of active workers stands at 65.53 lakh. In his reply in the Parliament, the Union minister said that Odisha deleted 1,14,454 fake job cards in 2022-23, 22,226 cards in 2023-24, and 7,566 cards in 2024-25. 'Since the responsibility for implementing MGNREGS lies with the state governments, it is up to them to take appropriate action in cases of irregularities. This may include investigations and legal action, depending on the severity of the issue,' Paswan stated. The mandatory e-KYC for job cards comes after a similar verification exercise was undertaken to identify and remove ghost and ineligible ration cards from circulation across the state.

Fertilisers ministry warns firms of action over ‘forced sales' days after Shivraj Chouhan wrote to CMs
Days after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wrote to the chief ministers of all states to immediately stop the 'forced tagging' of nano-fertilisers or bio-stimulants along with conventional fertilisers, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers has directed fertiliser companies to ensure that non-subsidised products are not tagged with subsidised fertilisers. It warned that such 'malpractice' will invite 'strict action'. In a letter to all fertiliser firms on July 21, the ministry said that it has come to its notice that some non-subsidised products such as pesticides, nano fertilisers, bio-stimulants, etc, are being tagged with subsidised fertilisers like urea, DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) and NPK (a complex fertiliser comprising Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium). The complaints highlighted that retailers were not selling the subsidised fertilisers to farmers unless they purchased the non-subsidised items. The ministry highlighted that fertilisers are declared as essential commodities under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and any activity involving such unauthorised tagging of other products with subsidised fertilisers may constitute a violation of the law and the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985. 'The Department has issued advisories from time to time to discourage such practices,' the ministry's letter said. 'The Department continues to receive complaints and grievances petitions, indicating that the practice…is widespread and persistent. Such practices place an undue financial burden on farmers and undermine the objectives of the government's fertiliser subsidy framework, which aims to provide affordable and equitable access to essential fertilisers,' it added. 'Therefore, you are directed to strictly ensure that no such tagging…is done for the farmers. Any instance of such malpractice, if brought to the notice of this Department, will invite strict action under relevant statutory provisions,' it said. On July 13, Chouhan had asked state governments to immediately stop the 'forced tagging' of nano-fertilisers or bio-stimulants along with conventional fertilisers like urea and DAP. However, Agriculture Ministry officials pointed out that the Fertilisers Ministry's letter to companies has come at a time when the Kharif season sowing is almost over and many farmers have already purchased nutrients like DAP and urea. Till July 11, 2025, sowing has been reported across 597.86 lakh hectares, besides the sale of 27.51 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers such as urea, DAP, Muriate of Potassium (MOP), NPK, and Single Super Phosphate (SSP).
