Former Bucs TE after the 2022 season: 'I'm done with football'
Cameron Brate went from undrafted free agent to beloved franchise great. While the former Bucs tight end isn't going to be enshrined in Canton, Ohio, or even the Ring of Honor in Raymond James Stadium, he has carved out a place in the hearts of Bucs fans for his effort and reliability over his nine seasons with the team.
On a recent episode of Chris Long's Green Light Podcast, the veteran tight end was on and served as a guest for them. He discussed a variety of topics, but one of them was particularly enlightening: the 2022 season.
Speaking with teammate Rob Gronkowski on the podcast, Brate shared, "That was not a very fun year for the Buccaneers," said Brate when talking with Gronk about playing the 2022 season. "That year, like I think everyone got done with that year, and the building was like, 'Alright, I'm done with football.'"
After that season, both Brate and Tom Brady would eventually retire from football.
The team had some ups and downs in the previous offseason, from Bruce Arians retirement, to them limping into the playoffs, where they lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the first round. The team has been climbing its way out of mediocrity ever since sadly.

No. 65 Who's wearing it now: G Alex Cappa The eighth-year veteran spent his first four years in Tampa where in his third year, the Bucs won a Super Bowl. So, this offseason, when Tom Brady joined the Raiders as a minority owner, he brought onboard GM John Spytek, and then Cappa was released by the Bengals, they moved quickly to sign him to man the right guard spot in Las Vegas. Super Bowl Champion Addresses Potential NFL Return on Fourth of July

Super Bowl Champion Addresses Potential NFL Return on Fourth of July originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Friday marks the 10th anniversary of the fireworks accident that cost former New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre‑Paul 2.5 fingers on his right hand. Advertisement Across 14 NFL seasons, Pierre‑Paul compiled 94.5 sacks, 167 quarterback hits and 631 total tackles, placing him among the top edge defenders of his era. In his conversation with ESPN's Jordan Raanan on Friday, Pierre‑Paul didn't shy away from his aspiration to continue playing. When asked about returning to the Giants, where "my career started," he said, "I think that'll be dope. Tremendous … the fans know me and know the type of player that I am. I'll always be that type of player and just give 'em everything I got, which I know it'll be more than enough." Selected 15th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft out of South Florida, Pierre‑Paul quickly emerged as one of the league's premier pass rushers, tallying a career‑best 16.5 sacks in 2011 and earning First‑Team All‑Pro honors after helping the Giants capture Super Bowl XLVI following the 2011 season. Advertisement After the 2015 fireworks accident in which he lost 2.5 fingers, Pierre‑Paul defied expectations by returning for eight late‑season games that same year and added 15.5 sacks over the next two Giants campaigns. Following a trade to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018, he posted double‑digit sacks again in 2018 (12.5), earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2020 and won a second championship with the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV that same year. At 36 years old, he's recently been posting intense workout clips on social media, reporting his playing weight back at 270 pounds and insisting 'I've got abs! I haven't had abs since my rookie year' in an interview in May. Advertisement With a relatively young pass rushing unit of Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and this year's No. 3 overall draft pick, Abdul Carter, the Giants could benefit from adding a savvy veteran like Pierre-Paul. NFL Network's annual America's Game marathon continues to skip Jon Gruden, Rich Dalrymple episodes

The ice has thawed between the Buccaneers and former coach Jon Gruden, who is back in the team's Ring of Honor. The ice remains solid between the league and Gruden. On America's birthday, NFL Network televises a marathon of the America's Game series. Each episode consists of a one-hour look at every Super Bowl champion — starting with the 1966 Packers and culminating with the 2023 Chiefs. (The newest episode, focusing on the 2024 Eagles, has yet to be released.) As noted by Tyler Dunne of the 58-volume library includes only 56. Two are omitted — and they have been, dating back to 2022. Still gone is the episode devoted to the 2002 Buccaneers (featuring Gruden). He was forced to resign as coach of the Raiders during the 2021 season after emails he'd sent years earlier were leaked from the files of an investigation into the Washington franchise. He has a lawsuit still pending against the league and Commissioner Roger Goodell. Also omitted is the 1995 Cowboys edition, which is narrated by former P.R. chief Rich Dalrymple. He resigned abruptly in 2022. Not long after he made his exit, he was linked to not one but two incidents of alleged voyeurism. Allegations that he secretly recorded the Cowboys' cheerleaders in their locker room reportedly resulted in a $2.4 million settlement. Tune in next year, to see if the 2002 Bucs and 1995 'Boys get left out. Until then, you can watch the Gruden episode here, and the Dalrymple one here.
