As India is gearing up to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21, the government is organising a multitude of events nationwide to mark the occasion with "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" as this year's themeYoga Sangam, the main event, will orchestrate a synchronised mass yoga demonstration based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) at over 1 lakh locations across India on June 21, 2025, from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the national event at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This collective celebration aims to reaffirm our shared commitment to the timeless practice of yoga and its enduring relevance in today's world.
An invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition, Yoga has emerged as one of the most trusted means to boost physical and mental well-being. The word "Yoga" is derived from the Sanskrit root 'yuj', meaning "to join," "to yoke," or "to unite." It symbolises the unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, harmony between human and nature, and a holistic approach to health and well-being.

Quad launches first-ever coast guard 'at-sea observer mission' to boost maritime cooperation in Indo-Pacific

For the first time, the Coast Guards of Quad nations, comprising India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, have launched a 'Quad at-sea Ship Observer Mission' to enhance maritime security and interoperability in the Indo-Pacific region. The mission involves deployment of coast guard observers on a US Coast Guard ship operating in the Indo-Pacific. read more Coast Guard personnel of Quad nations, comprising India, the United States, Australia, and Japan, operate jointly as part of the first-ever 'Quad at-sea Ship Observer Mission'. (Photo: Indian Coast Guard) The Quad, comprising India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, has launched the first 'Quad at-sea Ship Observer Mission' to enhance maritime security and interoperability in the Indo-Pacific region. The mission involves two officers, including women, from the coast guards of each nation. The Quad is an informal grouping committed to a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. The group, which is involved in security cooperation, humanitarian and disaster relief work, and developmental activities, is also a way of member states to counter China's hegemonic designs in the region. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Quad at-sea Ship Observer Mission was conceptualised at the Quad Summit 2024 in Wilmington in the United States. Under the Wilmington Declaration, the Coast Guards of India, Japan, the United States, and Australia have launched the 'QUAD at Sea Ship Observer Mission', which involves the deployment of two officers, including women officers, from each country on board US Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Stratton, which is currently sailing to Guam, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement. 'The cross-embarkation mission marks an unprecedented step in Quad Coast Guard collaboration, enhancing joint readiness, operational coordination, and domain awareness in support of a Free, Open, Inclusive, and Rules-Based Indo-Pacific,' the statement further said. While Quad is not a military alliance, the member states have increased military cooperation under Quad framework in recent years. Former US President Joe Biden, who hosted the Quad Summit 2024 at his home in Wilmington, joined hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Quad one of the leading instruments of managing the Indo-Pacific region and countering the Chinese aggressive posturing in the region. In 2023, India, Australia, Japan, and the United States held military drills off the Australian coast. The drills were widely dubbed as 'Quad Drills'. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The MoD said that India's participation in the Quad at-Sea Ship Observer Mission reinforces its strategic maritime vision of Sagar (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and complements national efforts under the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), with an emphasis on capacity-building, humanitarian outreach, and maritime rule of law. Moreover, the Quad at-sea initiative thus sets the foundation for a 'QUAD Coast Guard Handshake', fostering stronger trust, coordination, and collective resilience amid evolving maritime challenges in the region, the statement further said.

"Safar Karo, Shoot Nahi": Delhi Metro urges commuters to avoid making reels, cites safety concerns

New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday appealed to commuters to refrain from making social media reels inside metro premises, warning that such activities not only violate rules but also pose safety risks and inconvenience fellow passengers. 'Making reels in the metro is not just about breaking rules, it's also about disrupting others' journeys. Let's follow Delhi Metro's rules to make our travel safe,' DMRC posted on X. The advisory was issued on World Social Media Day as part of a broader awareness campaign highlighting the growing influence of social media. The DMRC's post was captioned -- 'Safar Karo, Shoot Nahi.' Earlier last week, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) achieved a significant milestone in the ongoing Phase 4 expansion by completing a major underground tunnelling task between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj stations on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor of the Golden Line. The breakthrough was achieved when a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) completed its journey this morning at Vasant Kunj Metro Station, having constructed a 1,550-metre-long tunnel using a 91-metre-long TBM. The DMRC took to social media to announce this development and posted, 'DMRC Completes another Major Tunnelling Milestone on Phase 4 Golden Line; Breakthrough at Vasant Kunj Metro Station. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today achieved a major construction milestone in Phase 4 with the completion of an underground tunnel between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Station on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor.' According to the DMRC, this new tunnel has been constructed at an average depth of approximately 22.86 meters (minimum depth 15.48 meters and maximum depth 30.25 meters). About 1105 rings have been installed in the tunnel, with an inner diameter of 5.8 meters. The tunnel has been constructed using the proven EPBM (Earth Pressure Balancing Method) technology, featuring a concrete lining composed of precast tunnel rings. These tunnel rings were cast at a fully mechanised casting yard set up at Mundka. The concrete segments were cured with a steam curing system to achieve early strength. As part of the Phase 4 work approved so far, 40.109 kilometres of underground lines are being constructed. The Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor has underground sections totalling 19.343 kilometres. Dhami Government to Launch ‘Jalsakhi' for Rural Drinking Water Supply

After 'Lakhpati Didi', another game-changer scheme for women's economic empowerment Dehradun. On the initiative of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Lakhpati Didi scheme launched in 2022 has already helped over 1.63 lakh women in Uttarakhand cross the mark of ₹1 lakh in annual income. Now, in its fifth year, the government is introducing another game-changing scheme — Jalsakhi — aimed at increasing livelihood opportunities for rural women. Under this scheme, responsibilities like rural drinking water supply and billing will be handed over to women self-help groups (SHGs). The Har Ghar Nal (tap water in every home) scheme in Uttarakhand is nearing its target. The drinking water department is now preparing to streamline the water supply system under this scheme. Tasks like providing new connections, bill distribution and correction, bill collection, and maintenance of schemes in rural areas will be outsourced to women SHGs. Additionally, the department will provide water quality testing kits to these SHGs. The groups will also report any malfunction in the water supply systems. For this, selected SHGs will be trained as Nal Jal Mitras (Tap Water Assistants). This pilot project will also offer an incentive of ₹10 per bill to these groups along with a share in the revenue. This initiative will help rural women earn from home and gain an additional source of livelihood. Lakhpati Didi Yojana The Lakhpati Didi scheme was launched in 2022 with the aim of enabling 5.07 lakh women associated with SHGs to earn over ₹1 lakh per year. These women are being trained and linked to income-generating activities like agriculture, horticulture, dairy, tailoring and embroidery, LPG distribution, basic veterinary services, insurance, and digital transactions. In just three years, 1.63 lakh women have already become lakhpatis. Seeing the scheme's success, the government now aims to make a total of 3 lakh women Lakhpati Didis by the end of this financial year. Mukhyamantri Sashakt Bahna Utsav Yojana To further strengthen women's livelihoods, the Dhami government launched the Mukhyamantri Sashakt Bahna Utsav Yojana in August 2023. Currently, more than 30,000 women in the state are benefiting from this scheme. So far, these women SHGs have done business worth ₹4.93 crore under this initiative. The scheme's objective is to provide wider market access for products made by women SHGs. House of Himalayas To promote Uttarakhand's traditional handicrafts, woven products, organic agricultural goods, and herbs, the government launched a unified brand — House of Himalayas — in December 2023. This brand was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has since gained national and international visibility. It features 36 products, 12 of which have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags, confirming their authenticity and linking them to specific districts in Uttarakhand. Currently, House of Himalayas has 11 stalls at state airports, helipads, and major hotels. Its products are also available through various e-commerce platforms. 'The government is making consistent efforts to empower women in every way. Women self-help groups are being connected to various economic activities. In line with this, we are now working to increase women's participation in water supply management as well. This scheme could prove to be a game-changer in improving the financial well-being of women.' Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand
