New AC Schnitzer bodykit gives the BMW X3 an attitude injection
The fourth-generation BMW X3 only launched last year, but German tuning company AC Schnitzer has already given the SUV a sportier aesthetic in the form of the snappily-named 'X3 G45 by AC Schnitzer'.
Since being founded in 1987, AC Schnitzer has become renowned for its tuned BMWs – from the original E30 M3 to the futuristic i3. The 5 Series and M2 are two of the current models you can get with AC Schnitzer parts, and now the X3 has been added to the list. Advertisement - Article continues below
True to AC Schnitzer's style, on the outside there's a series of aggressive additions that the tuning company says adds 'real downforce'. Based on the M Performance X3 trim, the front features a unique splitter made of polyurethane, plus there are new side wings, side skirts and a roof spoiler, too.
Several wheel rim designs are offered, stretching from 19 inches to 22 inches, and they fill the X3's wheelarches better thanks to 10mm spacers on each side, and a kit that lowers the springs by up to 25mm.
To the rear, you'll notice there's no exhaust tip on show and that's because this is the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel model (as noted by the tiny badge on the bootlid). However, the AC Schnitzer treatment isn't exclusively reserved for the 194bhp oil-burner, because a version of the upgrade is 'in preparation' for the hot 392bhp M50 version, according to the company. That'll be the most potent model offered, because sadly BMW isn't currently planning a new X3 M.
The tweaks aren't limited to the exterior, either. Inside, you'll find a pedal set, foot rest and cover for the iDrive controller all made from aluminium, plus a bespoke AC Schnitzer key holder – which simply slots into one of the cup holders.
Pricing for AC Schnitzer's upgrades haven't been revealed. However, together with the £54,540 you'll need for an X3 20d M Sport, a total outlay of around £60,000 seems likely.

Car maker Lotus says it has no plans to close English factory
LONDON, June 28 (Reuters) - British-based sportscar company Lotus said it has no plans to close a factory in eastern England, following a report in the Financial Times which said manufacturing there could end with the loss of 1,300 jobs. "Lotus Cars is continuing normal operations, and there are no plans to close the factory," Lotus said in an emailed statement on Saturday. "We are actively exploring strategic options to enhance efficiency and ensure global competitiveness in the evolving market." Lotus is owned by China's Geely ( and Malaysia's Etika Automotive and the brand produces cars in Britain and China. Any closure of the factory in Hethel, Norfolk, would have been a blow for Britain's auto industry which is suffering as a result of tariffs imposed by the United States. Britain's vehicle production dropped 32.8% from a year ago industry data showed on Friday. The Financial Times said the government had intervened to signal it would offer Lotus support after news emerged that the factory could shut, but the Department for Business and Trade did not confirm that. "The government does not comment on speculation or the commercial affairs of private companies," a spokesperson for the department said on Saturday. While Britain has negotiated a trade deal with the U.S. which will reduce the tariffs for a quota of exported vehicles, it does not come into force until the end of June. Meanwhile, car makers have reported lower output and exports to both the U.S. and the European Union, according to economic data.

Lando Norris storms to Austrian F1 GP pole as angry Verstappen slumps to seventh
Lando Norris claimed pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix by half a second at the Red Bull Ring, beating Ferrari's Charles Leclerc into second and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri into third. It was the perfect comeback for the British driver after his disappointment at having to retire when he crashed into Piastri at the last round in Canada. Red Bull's Max Verstappen was struggling for grip and finished in seventh. Lewis Hamilton was fourth for Ferrari and George Russell fifth for Mercedes. For Norris this was just the result he required after his title hopes took a battering when he made the misjudged move against Piastri in Montreal, dropping him to 22 points behind the Australian. At the Red Bull Ring this weekend Norris had insisted his error in Canada had ultimately resulted in a positive outcome, that he and the team emerged stronger now the seemingly unavoidable clash had finally happened. That is credible but it is inescapable that misjudgments like that in Canada could cost him the title. For all the psychological compartmentalising and rationalisations, that must weigh heavy. He said in Montreal he knew he had to make fewer errors, a theme he returned to in Austria. 'I've been making more mistakes and I've been behind,' he said. 'That's been clear. It's very close between us and Oscar's certainly been a bit more comfortable than I have this season, that's the way it is and I've had to try to improve and step up more.' Certainly he did so in qualifying with a lap that was all but untouchable. Notably the McLaren team principal, Andrea Stella, said the crash would have left Norris's confidence bruised and that the team would rally round him. They are still seeking to find a way to adjust the car to suit him and their upgrades this weekend to the front aero, rear aero and, crucially for Norris, the front suspension, to improve the feel he has for the front of the car, look to have paid off. Certainly Norris looked comfortable in qualifying, which has been his achilles heel this season. In Austria, it all appeared to come together and he looked in complete control from the off. Norris had dominated the first two sessions of qualifying and while Piastri opened the running for the first hot laps in Q3, he managed only a tidy lap that was swiftly eclipsed by his teammate. Norris was quicker in all three sectors and over two-tenths up on the Australian on top of the time sheetsin 1min 04.268sec, while Verstappen struggled a six-tenths back in sixth. For the final runs Russell improved, as did Leclerc, and Piastri knew he could do better but Norris once more looked confident. The British driver went quicker still through every sector with a lap of 1:03.971, half a second up on Leclerc, an absolute chasm. A late yellow flag when Pierre Gasly spun was costly for both Piastri and Verstappen, who both had to back off, with the Dutchman, struggling all afternoon, left almost a second back. An unhappy Verstappen described his car as so lacking in grip in every type of corner that it was 'completely undriveable'. The Dutchman will be dissatisfied by the result, especially after Red Bull brought what is likely to be their last major upgrade of the season to the race with a revision to the floor of the car it was hoped would help address the balance issues that have plagued it all year. 1. An incident involving Lewis Hamilton led to a fire breaking out during Austrian Grand Prix qualifying, bringing the session to a premature stop halfway through. Hamilton ran wide of the final corner at the Red Bull Ring with just over five minutes remaining of Q2 and a small patch of grass quickly burst into flames. The titanium skid block of the seven-time world champion's Ferrari dragged along the surface, igniting the blaze, but marshals were quick on the scene with extinguishers. After the action resumed in Austria, McLaren's Lando Norris delivered a red-hot lap to take pole position, fending off Charles Leclerc by a whopping 0.521 seconds. Oscar Piastri, Norris' team-mate and the championship leader, will start third while Hamilton steered his Ferrari to fourth. Mercedes' George Russell took fifth. Norris said: 'It was a good lap, that's for sure. 'My Q3 run one was good but I knew there were a few places where if I just got it right I could make up quite a bit more time and I did that.' The inch-perfect lap will deliver a timely boost to Norris' fading championship hopes with Piastri having entered the weekend holding a 22-gap advantage. Last time out, the Brit crashed out in Canada after running into the back of his sparring partner. Norris added: 'Qualifying has been some of my tough moments so to put in a lap like this is pleasing for myself. It's a long race tomorrow and a long season. 'I want to prove it myself over and over again and this is just the beginning of it.'
