UEFA Postpones Decision on Crystal Palace Participation in Europa League
UEFA announced that it postponed its assessment of the Crystal Palace and Lyon's participation in the UEFA competitions.
English Premier League side Crystal Palace are at risk of a potential breach of UEFA competition rules, as their major shareholder, John Textor, also has control over Lyon—a club that was recently relegated to Ligue 2 in France.
Both clubs have qualified for the next edition of the Europa League, but Palace argues that Textor doesn't influence the decision-making, as he holds only 25% of the voting power.
However, UEFA regulations stipulate that any party holding at least 30% of the voting power has "decisive influence" over a club.
"This postponement is linked to Olympique Lyonnais' compliance with the agreement signed with the First Chamber of Club Financial Control (CFCB), for the violation of financial viability criteria. According to the agreement, Lyon has accepted exclusion from European competitions for the 2025/26 season if the French authorities (DNCG) confirm the club's relegation to Ligue 2."

Egyptian FM, EU Commissioner Discuss Gaza Ceasefire and Reconstruction
H-Tayea Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty received a telephone call today from Dubravka Šuica, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, focusing on deepening Egypt–EU cooperation across multiple strategic fronts. Abdelatty welcomed EU efforts and Commissioner Šuica's support in securing the approval of the €4 billion second tranche of macro-financial assistance to Egypt. He emphasized this funding will bolster Egypt's response to economic and developmental challenges amid regional and global turbulence. The ministers discussed plans to expand economic, trade, and investment ties, aligned with Egypt's foreign investment attraction objectives. Abdelatty stressed the importance of addressing irregular migration by linking it with sustainable development, and highlighted the need to scale up cooperation in regulated migration and European investment to generate employment opportunities inside Egypt. Regarding Gaza, Abdelatty urged for an immediate resumption of the ceasefire and unhindered access for humanitarian, relief, and medical aid. He briefed Commissioner Šuica on Egypt's active coordination with Qatar and the United States, and announced Egypt's commitment to hosting an international conference on emergency recovery and reconstruction in Gaza—pending a durable ceasefire—in partnership with the Palestinian Authority and the UN. Egypt FM reviews Gaza ceasefire efforts in call with EU official - Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty reviewed on Tuesday Egypt's intensive efforts, in cooperation with Qatar and the US, to resume a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, during a phone call with EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica. According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, both sides discussed the developments in the Gaza Strip, where the Egyptian FM emphasised the necessity of ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid amid the humanitarian crisis in the strip. He also informed the EU Commissioner of Egypt's preparations to host, in collaboration with the Palestinian government and the UN, the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza once a ceasefire agreement is reached. The Egyptian FM stressed the important role of the EU and its member states in this regard, given that the EU is the largest donor to the Palestinian National Authority. Egypt-EU relations During the call, the top Egyptian diplomat also praised the progress witnessed in Egypt-EU relations and the efforts by both sides in implementing the six pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership. He welcomed the efforts made by the European Commissioner and her support in securing the European Parliament and Council's approval of the second tranche of the macro-financial assistance package to Egypt. The package, mounting to €4 billion, targets supporting Egypt's efforts in facing multiple economic and developmental challenges amid regional and international instability. Abdelatty expressed Egypt's keenness to further enhance economic, investment, and trade relations with the EU across various sectors, in light of the Egyptian government's efforts to attract foreign investments. The call also addressed the issue of migration. The Egyptian FM stressed the importance of linking migration with development and addressing the root causes of irregular migration. He underscored the need to strengthen the partnership in the area of regular migration and to support European investments in Egypt in ways that contribute to job creation. Egypt's Prime Minister holds high-level meetings at UN Conference on Financing for Development
Representing Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a series of high-level diplomatic meetings on the sidelines of the 4th United Nations Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville, Spain, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to strengthening international cooperation in the face of mounting global and regional pressures. In a pivotal discussion with Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Madbouly highlighted the substantial burden Egypt shoulders as a host country for a large population of migrants and refugees—despite ongoing economic challenges. 'We call upon the international community to extend greater support to Egypt, especially given the economic strains caused by regional conflicts and global crises,' Madbouly said. He praised the strong partnership between Egypt and the IOM and reiterated Egypt's commitment to regional stability and inclusive policies, offering migrants access to education, healthcare, and employment—efforts recognised by numerous international bodies. Pope commended Egypt's humanitarian leadership and expressed the IOM's readiness to deepen cooperation. She also applauded Egypt's efforts to promote legal and organised migration and expressed interest in enhancing collaboration, particularly in seasonal and skilled labour migration to Europe. Responding to her inquiries, Madbouly outlined Egypt's coordination with European countries to establish legal migration frameworks that reflect Egypt's skilled labour potential and the mutual interest in addressing labour market demands. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to explore new areas of cooperation, reinforcing Egypt's role as a key partner in global migration governance. Prime Minister Madbouly also met with Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), to discuss ongoing collaboration, particularly through the OECD's MENA Initiative on Governance and Competitiveness for Development. Madbouly expressed Egypt's appreciation for the OECD's technical support and emphasised the importance of finalising the Country Cooperation Program, which he described as a cornerstone for deepening future collaboration in line with Egypt's national development priorities. Joining the meeting, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Rania Al-Mashat elaborated on the scope of current projects with the OECD, noting their alignment with Egypt's Vision 2030 and the government's structural reform agenda. She added that several joint activities and consultations are planned in the coming period to enhance Egypt's integration of global expertise into national planning. Cormann praised Egypt's reform momentum and reaffirmed the OECD's support for Egypt's sustainable development goals, acknowledging the country's critical role in regional stability and international cooperation. Madbouly proposed the development of a strategic roadmap for future cooperation with the OECD to deepen bilateral ties and accelerate Egypt's economic transformation. In a key regional dialogue, Prime Minister Madbouly met with Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, where both leaders reaffirmed the historic and strategic relationship between Egypt and Algeria. Madbouly conveyed President Al-Sisi's greetings to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and emphasised the importance of elevating bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors. 'We must accelerate preparations for the next session of the Egyptian-Algerian High Joint Committee,' he stated, calling for enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, and regional affairs. Larbaoui echoed the call for deeper ties and conveyed President Tebboune's regards to President Al-Sisi. He also commended Egypt's pivotal role in promoting regional stability and security. The two leaders explored expanded cooperation in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and agriculture, and reaffirmed their mutual interest in fostering deeper economic integration between the two nations. Prime Minister Madbouly's diplomatic engagements in Seville reflect Egypt's strategic vision to bolster international partnerships, attract support for its development agenda, and reaffirm its role as a regional stabiliser amid global uncertainty. The meetings demonstrated broad international recognition of Egypt's importance and a shared readiness to deepen cooperation on key global challenges.
