Keeping your groceries fresh is quite a challenge, as there is nothing more frustrating than grabbing an unripe fruit or realizing the milk purchased two days ago has now turned sour.Food writer Kimberly Holland, in an article for AllRecipes, explained the correct ways to store food items in the refrigerator after buying them.According to Holland, in a bid to keep your berries fresh, it is crucial to keep them in a dry and unwashed container in the fridge. If the berries are stored in the original container or a plastic-wrapped bowl, they can last up to 10 days and stay juicy.When potatoes are stored inside a refrigerator, the vegetable's moisture evaporates due to the cold temperature, and they become shriveled and shrunken, according to Holland. The climate of the fridge converts the starches in potatoes to sugar, according to Potatoes USA, a potato marketing and research organization. If the potatoes are stored in the fridge, take them out and allow them to come to room temperature before cooking.Fresh heads of garlic are likely to perish in the colder temperatures, similar to the case of potatoes. It belongs in a cool, dry spot like a cabinet or pantry.The best-suited way to keep the bulk of garlic cloves fresh is to find room for them in the freezer. Holland recommended that you store the bulb vegetable whole or peel the outer layer to store individual cloves inside aluminum wrap or a jar. The cloves are in a similar dry habitat to your potatoes.There is certainly no place in the fridge for an onion, says Tom Irving, a British nutritionist, dietitian, and blogger. "Some people treat them like salad veg and store them in the fridge, which is wrong on several levels," he said, as quoted by the All Recipes website.The cold conditions lead to the conversion of starch in the onion to sugar, which spoils the onion and makes it lose that distinctive crunch. Also, an onion's heady aroma can spread to nearby fruits and vegetables.Cucumbers don't like to be cold, or even cool for that matter, and they last longer when stored at room temperature, given that they are not cut. Store them in a dry spot on the counter to prevent damage. Also, it is advisable to keep cucumbers away from other fruits like tomatoes, bananas, and melons.

British F-35B jet towed to hangar at Kerala airport
An expert team from the UK arrived at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Sunday afternoon to inspect and repair the British F-35B fighter jet, which has been stranded at the airport since June 14, an airport official confirmed. A British Royal Navy fighter jet being moved to a designated facility at the Kerala airport in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (PTI) 'A UK engineering team has deployed to Thiruvananthapuram international airport to assess and repair the UK F-35B aircraft, which landed following an emergency diversion,' a British high commission spokesperson said. The UK has accepted India's offer of space at the maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Thiruvananthapuram, and the British side is in discussions to 'finalise arrangements with relevant authorities', the spokesperson said. The expert team, comprising 21 members including aviation engineers, landed at the airport around 12.45 pm in the Royal Air Force ZM 417 aircraft, a type of Airbus A400M Atlas aircraft. Soon after the arrival of the British team, the £85-million jet was towed from the tarmac to a hangar. Several attempts to fix the aircraft have been unsuccessful and it had been on the tarmac since it landed at Thiruvananthapuram after reporting low fuel levels. According to officials familiar with the matter, the expert team will inspect the advanced stealth F-35B jet, belonging to the Royal Navy, and attempt to repair it and make it airborne again. In case of failure to do so, the British authorities are expected to partially dismantle the jet, under extreme secrecy, and airlift it possibly in a C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft, they said. The fighter jet is part of the Carrier Strike Group aboard the HMS Prince of Wales and had taken part in recent maritime exercises with the Indian Navy. It made an emergency landing on the night of June 14 at the Thiruvananthapuram airport after reporting low fuel and adverse weather conditions during a routine sortie. The Indian Air Force (IAF) facilitated the safe landing of the jet on June 14 and later provided refuelling and logistical support. Royal Navy technicians from the carrier strike group unsuccessfully attempted to repair the F-35B jet, which was parked at a bay designated for VIP aircraft and was guarded by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Upon landing, the fighter jet developed an engineering issue, precluding its return to the aircraft carrier. Engineers from the HMS Prince of Wales had inspected the aircraft and concluded that the support of a UK-based engineering team was needed. 'To minimise disruptions to the regular airport operations, the aircraft will be moved to a space in the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul facility hangar once specialist equipment and UK engineering teams arrive,' a statement from the British High Commission in India had stated earlier. 'The safe landing, logistics and continuing security and organisational support provided by India in responding to this situation further demonstrates the close coordination and deepening relationship that exists between the Armed Forces of the UK and India,' it added.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], July 6 (ANI): British F-35B fighter jet, stuck at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport for nearly three weeks was towed to the Air India hanger on Sunday after a technical team arrived from the UK to assess any damage to the aircraft and attempt to take the aircraft back, according to Defence sources. British Royal Air Force's Airbus A400M Atlas also took off from Kerala's airport after dropping off a technical team of experts to assess the aircraft. Earlier today, a team of approximately 25 technical experts from the British Royal Air Force was dispatched to inspect the F-35B fighter jet that made an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on the night of June 14. The visiting team will assess the condition of the stranded jet to determine whether it can be repaired locally or needs to be dismantled and transported back to the United Kingdom. Since its unscheduled landing nearly three weeks ago, the presence of the advanced stealth fighter has generated considerable public curiosity and turned into a quirky marketing trend in the state. 'The UK has accepted the offer of a space in the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, and are in discussions to finalise arrangements with relevant authorities. In line with standard procedure, the aircraft will be moved following the arrival of UK engineers, who are carrying specialist equipment necessary for the movement and repair process,' the statement added. The High Commissioner thanked India for its support to the UK in this matter. 'The UK remains very grateful for the continued support and collaboration of the Indian authorities and airport teams.' The aircraft was diverted there after it ran into bad weather during a sortie in the Indian ocean and was unable to return to HMS Prince of Wales, the Royal Navy's flagship carrier. Engineers from HMS Prince of Wales have assessed the aircraft, but despite their efforts, they have been unable to fix the issue. F-35Bs are highly advanced stealth jets, built by Lockheed Martin, and are prized for their short take-off and vertical landing capability.
