An expert team from the UK arrived at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Sunday afternoon to inspect and repair the British F-35B fighter jet, which has been stranded at the airport since June 14, an airport official confirmed. 'A UK engineering team has deployed to Thiruvananthapuram international airport to assess and repair the UK F-35B aircraft, which landed following an emergency diversion,' a British high commission spokesperson said.
The UK has accepted India's offer of space at the maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Thiruvananthapuram, and the British side is in discussions to 'finalise arrangements with relevant authorities', the spokesperson said.
The expert team, comprising 21 members including aviation engineers, landed at the airport around 12.45 pm in the Royal Air Force ZM 417 aircraft, a type of Airbus A400M Atlas aircraft.
Soon after the arrival of the British team, the £85-million jet was towed from the tarmac to a hangar. Several attempts to fix the aircraft have been unsuccessful and it had been on the tarmac since it landed at Thiruvananthapuram after reporting low fuel levels.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the expert team will inspect the advanced stealth F-35B jet, belonging to the Royal Navy, and attempt to repair it and make it airborne again. In case of failure to do so, the British authorities are expected to partially dismantle the jet, under extreme secrecy, and airlift it possibly in a C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft, they said.
The fighter jet is part of the Carrier Strike Group aboard the HMS Prince of Wales and had taken part in recent maritime exercises with the Indian Navy.
It made an emergency landing on the night of June 14 at the Thiruvananthapuram airport after reporting low fuel and adverse weather conditions during a routine sortie. The Indian Air Force (IAF) facilitated the safe landing of the jet on June 14 and later provided refuelling and logistical support. Royal Navy technicians from the carrier strike group unsuccessfully attempted to repair the F-35B jet, which was parked at a bay designated for VIP aircraft and was guarded by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Upon landing, the fighter jet developed an engineering issue, precluding its return to the aircraft carrier. Engineers from the HMS Prince of Wales had inspected the aircraft and concluded that the support of a UK-based engineering team was needed.
'To minimise disruptions to the regular airport operations, the aircraft will be moved to a space in the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul facility hangar once specialist equipment and UK engineering teams arrive,' a statement from the British High Commission in India had stated earlier.
'The safe landing, logistics and continuing security and organisational support provided by India in responding to this situation further demonstrates the close coordination and deepening relationship that exists between the Armed Forces of the UK and India,' it added.

Puri Rath Yatra: Know About 'Adhar Pana' Ritual And Its Significance

The 'Adhara Pana' ritual of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra was observed on Monday on the Bada Danda (Grand Road) in Puri. The ritual marks one of the concluding ceremonies of the Rath Yatra festival in which servitors offer sweet water to the deities on the chariots, a day before their return to the Jagannath temple in Puri. Adhara Pana is a special type of sweet drink in which cheese, milk, sugar and spices are mixed. The idols of Lord Balabhadra and his siblings, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath, are on their chariots, which have been placed outside the shrine since July 5, when 'Bahuda Yatra' was held. #RathaJatra2025 #RathaYatra2025 #ShreeJagannathaDhaam #AdharaPana — Shree Jagannatha Temple, Puri (@JagannathaDhaam) July 7, 2025 "As per the tradition, the Pana or sweet water pots are broken on the chariots so that the spirits and ghosts that surrounded the chariots during the Rath Yatra, get their thirst quenched," Bhaskar Mishra, a researcher in the Jagannath culture, said as quoted by PTI. 'Suna Besha' Of Lord Jagannath In Puri Around 15 lakh devotees on Sunday witnessed 'Suna Besha' (golden attire) ritual on chariots. The idols were decorated with golden attire, with sibling deities wearing gold jewellery weighing nearly 208 kg on the occasion of Suna Besha, which translates to "Golden Attire" or "Golden Adornment," symbolising divine prosperity, victory of good over evil and the Lord's eternal guardianship over the universe. It is observed five times a year, with the most significant one taking place on Bahuda Ekadashi, the day after the return of the deities from the Gundicha Temple during the Ratha Yatra festival. The Suna Besha of the deities atop the chariots has been completed. #RathaJatra2025 #RathaYatra2025 #ShreeJagannathaDhaam #Sunabesha2025 — Shree Jagannatha Temple, Puri (@JagannathaDhaam) July 6, 2025 Suna Besha represents the supreme sovereignty of Lord Jagannath and is a celebration of devotion, faith and community. It's a moment when the mortal world merges with the divine, filling devotees with hope, peace, and spiritual awakening. The tradition of Suna Besha is believed to have originated during the reign of King Kapilendra Deva in the 15th century CE, who donated gold and diamonds to Lord Jagannath after conquering southern kingdoms.

NDMC unveils plantation drive under ‘Ek ped maa ke naam'€™; targets 3,000 trees, 35 lakh shrubs

'The NDMC is undertaking a massive 'Gap Filling' campaign to ensure continuous green cover along 80 major roads this year — far beyond the 2-4 roads covered in earlier years,' the statement said. According to an official statement issued on Monday by the office of NDMC vice chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal, he unveiled the plan at a press conference held on Monday at Palika Kendra. The drive officially commenced on April 1 and has already covered 89 sites across six horticulture divisions. New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has rolled out a comprehensive plantation action plan under the Prime Minister's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, with an ambitious target of planting 3,000 trees, 35 lakh shrubs and 3,946 bamboo plants across the capital's central zone. The campaign aims to eliminate barren patches and reduce air pollution by targeting particulate matter levels (PM10, PM2.5 and PM1). The plan also includes the installation of 4,000 hanging flower baskets made from biodegradable coconut shells, enhancement of watering practices through smart irrigation systems, and the promotion of rooftop and organic gardening across NDMC areas. To further bolster green infrastructure, nine new decentralised sewage treatment plants (STPs) will be constructed at sites including Nehru Park, AIIMS and Akbar Road. As part of a special drive on Hariyali Teej, which falls on July 27 this year, the NDMC plans to plant 240 trees and over 36,000 shrubs in a single day at 20 prominent locations. The bamboo plantation initiative will focus on four roads — Akbar Road, Mandir Marg, Krishna Menon Marg and Subramanium Bharti Marg — where nearly 4,000 bamboo plants will serve as natural green screens. The statement also highlighted the NDMC's claim of being the greenest urban local body in India, maintaining over 1,150 acres of green space while contributing 55 per cent of Delhi's total green cover, despite comprising only three per cent of the city's land area. 'The NDMC remains committed to the Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of a greener and more sustainable Viksit Bharat @2047,' the statement concluded.
