Ireland vs France referee: Who is Six Nations official Angus Gardner?
Australia's Angus Gardner takes charge of the crucial clash between Ireland and France on the penultimate weekend of the Six Nations.
The 39-year-old official took charge of fixtures at the World Cup in the autumn of 2023 having made his tournament debut as an assistant in England in 2015 before stepping up to the refereeing panel four years later in Japan.
He was selected to oversee the semi-final between New Zealand and Argentina at the Stade de France, his first knockout appointment, establishing him as one of the world's leading officials.
Born in Sydney, Gardner took up refereeing at the age of 15.
He made his Super Rugby debut in 2012, officiating an encounter between the Melbourne Rebels and Queensland Reds.
By that stage, he had already made an international debut – in November 2011, Gardner took charge of an Oceania Cup match between Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu in Port Moresby.
A Tier One debut followed five years later, setting Gardner on a pathway to refereeing matches at the 2019 World Cup.

Manchester City were dumped out of the Club World Cup in the round of 16 by Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, as Pep Guardiola's team suffered a 4-3 loss after extra-time FIFA president Gianni Infantino has hailed Al-Hilal's victory over Manchester City at the Club World Cup as the beginning of a 'new era'. But two quick-fire goals from Al-Hilal turned the tie on its head, only for Erling Haaland to equalise before the hour mark. Kalidou Koulibaly put Al-Hilal back in front during the first half of extra-time before Phil Foden drew City level once again. Eventually, the game was decided by Marcos Leonardo's 112th-minute strike. After full-time, Infantino wrote on his personal Instagram account: "The NEW ERA OF CLUB FOOTBALL has definitely started. A game to remember sees Al-Hilal record a famous win against Manchester City in Orlando to reach the Quarter-Finals of the FIFA Club World Cup: truly a global competition." The FIFA president's statement raised eyebrows, with Saudi Arabia considered one of the weaker leagues to participate in the Club World Cup. Piers Morgan seems to agree, though, posting on X, formerly Twitter: "People laughed when [Cristiano] Ronaldo said the Saudi League would soon be in the world's Top4…" Indeed Ronaldo has been vocal about the Saudi Pro League's chances of breaking into the world's elite bracket, having moved there in 2023. After signing a new contract with Al-Nassr last week, the Manchester United legend reiterated his stance and claims that people who don't view Saudi as a top-five league 'don't understand anything about football'. "We're still improving, but I believe that in this moment we're in [the] top five [leagues in the world ] already," Ronaldo proclaimed. "But I still believe that we continue to improve, and we have time - and we show the last two and a half years that the league is going up all the time. "I'm happy because I know the league is very competitive. Only people who have never played in Saudi, they don't understand anything about football and say this league is not in the top five. I believe 100 percent in my words and the people who play in this league know what I'm talking about. "This is why I want to stay, because I believe in the project, not [only] the next two years, but until 2034, which is the goal and will be the [FIFA] World Cup in Saudi Arabia - which I believe will be the most beautiful one ever. "So I'm happy for two more years. I want to fight with the best teams in Saudi to win the league. I believe [in that] and it's better to let's see at the end of the day."

Man City's Club World Cup efforts are over but to add insult to injury Rodri has been dealt another injury setback after missing almost the entirety of last season Pep Guardiola revealed Rodri suffered a fresh injury blow to rub salt in the wounds after Manchester City's Club World Cup humiliation. The City midfielder suffered the indignity of coming on as a substitute after 53 minutes then only to be subbed himself in extra time. But Guardiola revealed it was because Rodri - who missed almost all of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury - suffered a fresh injury blow. Guardiola did not reveal the nature or extent of the injury but it is another massive setback on top of them losing their last remaining hope of silverware to salvage something from the season. They lost in extra time as Al-Hilal pulled off the biggest upset in the competition and the biggest result in their history. City boss Guardiola said: 'We have to see Rodri, he complained about his situation, but we need time to come back.' Guardiola admitted his team were too slow to react but insisted they created and wasted enough chances to win the match. He added: 'It was a difficult game. We allowed them to make transitions we created a lot. It is a pity, we have been on incredible journey together and so good place. 'We were so open. When the crosses arrived, in the first action, they had the ability to pass the ball and attack and they have quick players. We created a lot and had a lot of chances against a team that defend so deep. They punished us on the transitions.' Guardiola said the training camp had been good even if the tournament ended in disappointment. He added: 'The vibe was really good, I cannot thank Manchester City enough and especially the players for training and how they have bene playing. The margins are minimal, they ran into transitions a bit, but we created a lot, Bono made incredible saves. 'We would have loved to have continued, only here once every four year, we had a feeling that the team is doing well but we go home and now it is time to rest and rest our minds for the new season. 'It is too early to say but so many good things I did not seen in the past. The relationship between the players, our captained helped a lot and the standards with staff. I felt we were happy here, the training sessions have been really good but the level of this competition is the World Cup and we regret a little bit that we allowed them to run a bit more.'
