A teenager with intellectual disabilities was charged in the Magistrate's Court today with the murder of a senior citizen.
TANAH MERAH - A teenager with intellectual disabilities was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the murder of a senior citizen.
Tuan Mohamad Izmal Firdaus Tuan Muda, 18, nodded after the charge was read out before Magistrate Tun Faez Fikhrie, but no plea was recorded as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
He was charged with the murder of Shamsudin Mohamed, 60, on the side of the road next to a grocery store, in Kampung Buluh, Gual Ipoh, here between 6pm and 6.30pm on June 19. A teenager with intellectual disabilities was charged in the Magistrate's Court today with the murder of a senior citizen.
The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides the death penalty or imprisonment for not less than 30 to 40 years and a minimum whipping of 12 strokes, if convicted.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan, while Tuan Mohamad Izmal Firdaus was unrepresented.

Ridzuan Roslan, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali to voluntarily causing hurt to Normala Roslan, 48, on April 27, this year, at 1pm in a unit at Cyber City Apartment Phase 2. The charge under Section 323, read with Section 326A of the Penal Code, carries up to one year in jail, a fine, whipping, or any two of these, and under Section 326A, the sentence can be doubled if the victim is a spouse, ex-spouse, child, disabled adult, or other family member. In passing the sentence, Wan Farrah said family members should be protected, not harmed, and believed a deterrent sentence was necessary to teach Ridzuan a lesson. Earlier, the prosecution in tendering the facts of the case informed the court that on the said day, the dispute began when the victim, told Ridzuan, her younger brother, to stop shouting inside the house. Ridzuan reacted aggressively by punching the victim on the right side of her head, choking her, and slamming her left arm against a metal grille door, said the prosecution, adding that the victim sustained bruises and injuries as a result of the attack. A police report was lodged following the incident, and Ridzuan was arrested. Unrepresented, Ridzuan requested a lenient sentence, saying that he is unemployed and single. Meanwhile, two women were fined a total of RM2,600 for engaging in illegal online gambling activities. Nor Sada and Murni Muis pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to the charges against them, respectively. Nor Sada, 41, was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,400, or one month in jail for engaging in an online gambling session using a handphone in public on Nov 9, last year, at 5.30pm, outside a premises at Industrial Point Mile 5, Jalan Tuaran. Murni was fined RM1,200, or jailed one month for purchasing three lottery tickets without a licence on April 15, this year, at 12.30pm, at the five-foot-way of a shop in Kampung Air here. Inspector Yusri Basri, prosecuting, informed the court that RM75 and RM115 in cash were seized by police from Nor Sada and Murni, respectively, during the raid. Lahad Datu crash claims three lives
LAHAD DATU: Three men were killed after the four-wheel-drive vehicle they were travelling in collided with a trailer carrying palm oil at Batu 16, Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan, on Tuesday night (July 1). Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station chief Sumsoa Rashid said the victims have been identified as the driver Mohd Azizi, 28, and front passenger Mohd Rasman Ahmat Kechil, 28, as well as Muhammad Zulkhairi Ismail, 29, who was seated in the back. "All the victims were trapped in the vehicle and were extricated by the firefighters before being confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel. "Meanwhile, the trailer driver, a 61-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lahad Datu Hospital for further treatment," he said when contacted by reporters on Wednesday (July 2). According to Sumsoa, a distress call regarding the accident was received via MERS999 at 8.52pm, and a team of 12 firefighters, along with machinery and the Emergency Services Assistance Unit, was immediately dispatched to the scene, located 30km from the station. He said all the deceased were handed over to the police for further action, and the operation concluded at 12.40am after confirming there were no further hazards at the scene. – Bernama

Arrest order for lorry firm owner in fatal FRU crash
TELUK INTAN: The Magistrate's Court here issued an arrest warrant for the owner of a lorry company involved in a fatal accident involving nine members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) on May 13. Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan filed the arrest warrant application yesterday after the individual failed to appear for Monday's proceedings on two charges, namely under Section 57 and Section 58 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010. Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman then set July 29 for mention of the arrest warrant, Bernama reported. It is understood that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had also sent a summons to the owner of the company to appear in court for yesterday's prosecution proceedings. On May 30, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) announced that it had revoked the operating licence of Tashveen Trading, the lorry company that carried the gravel load, effective May 29, 2025.
