Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was jailed 12 months by the Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday for assaulting his elder sister during a domestic dispute at their home. Ridzuan Roslan, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali to voluntarily causing hurt to Normala Roslan, 48, on April 27, this year, at 1pm in a unit at Cyber City Apartment Phase 2. The charge under Section 323, read with Section 326A of the Penal Code, carries up to one year in jail, a fine, whipping, or any two of these, and under Section 326A, the sentence can be doubled if the victim is a spouse, ex-spouse, child, disabled adult, or other family member. In passing the sentence, Wan Farrah said family members should be protected, not harmed, and believed a deterrent sentence was necessary to teach Ridzuan a lesson. Earlier, the prosecution in tendering the facts of the case informed the court that on the said day, the dispute began when the victim, told Ridzuan, her younger brother, to stop shouting inside the house. Ridzuan reacted aggressively by punching the victim on the right side of her head, choking her, and slamming her left arm against a metal grille door, said the prosecution, adding that the victim sustained bruises and injuries as a result of the attack. A police report was lodged following the incident, and Ridzuan was arrested. Unrepresented, Ridzuan requested a lenient sentence, saying that he is unemployed and single. Meanwhile, two women were fined a total of RM2,600 for engaging in illegal online gambling activities. Nor Sada and Murni Muis pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to the charges against them, respectively. Nor Sada, 41, was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,400, or one month in jail for engaging in an online gambling session using a handphone in public on Nov 9, last year, at 5.30pm, outside a premises at Industrial Point Mile 5, Jalan Tuaran. Murni was fined RM1,200, or jailed one month for purchasing three lottery tickets without a licence on April 15, this year, at 12.30pm, at the five-foot-way of a shop in Kampung Air here. Inspector Yusri Basri, prosecuting, informed the court that RM75 and RM115 in cash were seized by police from Nor Sada and Murni, respectively, during the raid. RM587,004 committing Criminal Breach of Trust: Woman charged

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old woman was charged with three counts of committing criminal breach of trust involving RM587,004. Rabiahtul Adawiah Pastor pleaded not guilty to all the charges against her before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, on Thursday. Advertisement On the first count, Rabiahtul, as accountant and finance executive of Syarikat Yaza Communications Sdn Bhd which entrusted her with the money amounting to RM273,802.64 belonging to the company, allegedly breached the trust by misusing the company property by transferring the money into the Tropika Ujana Enterprise's bank account. The offence allegedly took place between Jan 6, 2022 and Oct 30, 2023 at the Syarikat Yaza Communications Sdn Bhd in Pusat Dagangan Putatan. On the second count, she is accused of committing the offence by transferring money amounting RM263,758.50 to Mah Group's bank account at the same place between Jan 14, 2022 and Oct 27, 2023. On the third count, she allegedly committed the offence by transferring money amounting to RM49,330 to a bank account belonged to Kasturi Indah Enterprise at the same place between Nov 30, 2022 and Oct 27, 2023. The offence under Section 408 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one and 14 years, whipping and liable to a fine, on conviction. The court set Aug 5 this year for case management and Rabiahtul was released on bail of RM5,000 in two local sureties. Criminal Breach of Trust: Sales assistant gets jail, rotan

TAWAU: A 36-year-old sales assistant was jailed one year and ordered given three strokes of the cane for committing criminal breach of trust involving company funds amounting to RM10,550. Fadhil Salleh Kasim pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahaya to the charge against him. Advertisement He had breached the trust given to him as a sales assistant of a supermarket which entrusted him RM10,550 at 7.30pm on June 7 at the supermarket in Semporna. Fadhil had withdrawn the cash without the knowledge of his superiors, which constituted a breach of legal contract. He was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment for criminal breach of trust by a person in a position of trust. According to the facts of the case, at 12.40 pm on June 12, a complainant, who was also an assistant manager, discovered during a check that there was a shortfall in the RM20,000 kept in the cash box. A review of CCTV footage revealed that the accused had taken money from the safe on June 7 without the company's permission. As a result, Fadhil was found to have committed the offence by withdrawing RM10,550 that had been entrusted to him. The court ordered jail sentence from the date of arrest on June 18. Retiree loses RM90k in online investment scam in Kuala Terengganu
KUALA TERENGGANU: A 59-year-old retiree was cheated out of RM90,541 after falling victim to an online investment scam. The fraud involved a company named Habib Fun, according to Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor. The victim received a WhatsApp link on June 11 from a woman he had befriended on Facebook. The suspect convinced him to register for an investment scheme. After an initial return of RM2,767, the victim was lured into making further deposits totalling RM90,541 through nine transactions into six different accounts. On June 2, the victim was informed of an error in his last transaction and was asked to pay a penalty of RM31,400. He was promised a return of RM432,000 if he complied. Realising he had been scammed, the victim filed a police report at Gong Badak Police Station yesterday. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Authorities urge the public to be cautious of unsolicited investment offers online.
