Alabama outfielder Kade Snell selected in fifth round of 2025 MLB draft

After right-handed pitcher Riley Quick was selected Sunday night, a second Alabama Crimson Tide baseball player has now heard their name called in the 2025 MLB draft in outfielder Kade Snell.
Yes, Snell got the Crimson Tide selections started Monday afternoon when the veteran Alabama outfielder came off the board at pick No. 151 overall in the fifth round, drafted by the Chicago Cubs.
Alabama's team captain this past season, the redshirt senior outfielder was a First Team All-SEC selection in 2025 who led the Crimson Tide with a .363 AVG across 58 games played, while also hitting 10 home runs with 52 RBI.
A player who originally began his collegiate career at Auburn, followed by two seasons at Wallace Community College, Snell spent the 2024-25 campaigns in Tuscaloosa where he appeared in 101 games offensively with 94 starts. Over that span, Snell slashed a combined .347/.435/.547 with 16 home runs and 82 RBI.
Snell also had 10 appearances on the mound for Alabama during the 2024 season, six of which were starts, where he owned a 1-0 record with a 6.08 ERA and a 23:7 K:BB ratio across 23.2 innings pitched.

Ohio State basketball drops a bit in latest Joe Lunardi March Madness bracketolgy

Yeah, most of us are counting the days down to the start of Ohio State football, but each month that passes by also gets us closer and closer to the start of another college basketball season. To be fair, there's been a little apathy from fans on the banks of the Olentangy with the men's basketball program because the administration just doesn't seem to have the same set of winning expectations the football program has, especially after missing the NCAA Tournament three straight years now. But there is some optimism growing in Columbus after several transfer portal additions, and perhaps, even some addition by subtraction for guys that underperformed. Add those ingredients to the mix of returning production like guards Bruce Thornton and John Mobley Jr., as well as forward Devin Royal, and maybe, just maybe, head coach Jake Diebler can get this thing turned around. The national media seem to be buying into what Ohio State can be this winter as well. Even ESPN's resident bracketologist, Joe Lunardi, has been fairly bullish on the Buckeyes, having them as a way-too-early No. 4 seed during his May effort of projecting all the teams that will make the 2026 NCAA Tournament. But that has slipped a little, according to what Lunardi shared for his June bracketology drop. No longer does one of the most popular bracketologists no longer have OSU on the No. 4 seed line; he's actually dropped the Buckeyes two seed lines down to No. 6. That seems a little harsh based on really not a whole lot of movement in a month by teams either way during the offseason, but based on what we've seen from Ohio State over the last three years, I guess it is to be expected. So, where and who does Lunardi have the Buckeyes playing in the first round (keeping in mind there's no way this will be right at this point in trying to figure it all out)? Ohio State is slotted in the West region, playing in San Diego against No. 11 seed VCU. We could throw out more caveats than an insurance terms and conditions disclosure here, so don't get too upset about any of this. After all, would you sign up for this now, knowing that OSU hasn't been a part of March Madness since 2022? I think so. Now, we'll let you get back to your regularly scheduled football programming ... Former Spartan Jaden Akins scores first career points in NBA Summer League

Former Spartan Jaden Akins has officially scored his first NBA bucket -- well, NBA Summer League bucket, that is. Akins banked in a three-point shot in the Orlando Magic's NBA Summer League game vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night. Akins finished the game shooting 1-for-3 with his lone points being on that three-pointer made early in the game. Akins played 18 minutes in the loss to the Thunder. As you would expect, Akins was stellar on the defensive end of the floor, recording three steals on Wednesday. Akins has played in two of the Magic's three NBA Summer League games so far this year. He is looking to break through and land on an NBA roster after going undrafted last month. The Magic have one more NBA Summer League scheduled for Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets. The Athletic names Michigan State's Tom Izzo a Top-25 NCAA basketball coach of the 2000s

Where does Tom Izzo stand amongst the great men's college basketball coaches of the last 25 years? The Athletic and writer CJ Moore have their answer, which was published in their recent ranking of the top 25 coaches of the 2000s. The Athletic has Tom Izzo in the top ten, coming at No. 9 overall. One important note about these rankings is that they intentionally did not include the 1999-00 season. Obviously, Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans won the national championship that year, which would have probably altered these rankings quite a bit. Below, you can see what they had to say about Izzo and his ranking. You can also click the link to read their article, which also goes over his coaching statistics: If we were including the 1999-2000 season, Izzo's resume looks even better because we'd be including a national title. But even taking that out, he trails only Roy Williams for Final Fours this century. Izzo is also tied with Bill Self and Mark Few for most NCAA Tournament appearances; all three have yet to miss. Izzo's personal run, dating back to 1998, is the longest. It looked like Izzo was starting to slip the last few years, but he just won the Big Ten and made an Elite Eight. In an era where players are transferring and some coaches are scared to coach their players too hard, Izzo hasn't budged. He knows his way works.
