Holy cities experience moderate to heavy rains amid forecast of more until Sunday
Al-Jami'ah district in Jeddah city recorded the highest levels with 24.8mm of rain.
The National Center for Meteorology has forecast this to continue until Sunday. Parts of Makkah, Al-Baha, Aseer, Jazan and Najran, in addition to parts of Qassim, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, can expect gusty winds, moderate to heavy rain, and hailstorms. The rain in Makkah came as a blessing for Umrah pilgrims, giving them some respite from hot weather.
Faiz Al-Najdi, a Yanbu resident, told Arab News: 'It was pleasant weather in Makkah, I performed Umrah with family with ease and even performed Friday prayer in the open courtyard at the grand mosque. I feel blessed to perform my religious duty and enjoy good weather.'
Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Civil Defense has called for caution and the need to remain in safe areas, avoiding areas prone to flooding and low-lying valleys. It warned people to refrain from swimming in them and urged adherence to any instructions announced by local authorities via various media outlets and social media platforms.
Text messages sent to residents in Riyadh said: 'Forecasts from the NCM indicate that moderate to heavy rains will fall on the Riyadh region (Riyadh, Diriyah, Dhurma, Al-Muzahmiyya, Rimah, Al-Kharj, Al-Dilam, Al-Hariq, Hawtah Bani Tamim). Rain conditions predicted from Wednesday to Saturday, corresponding to March 19 to 22, 2025.'
It also warned of flash floods and high waves on the coasts, as well as hailstorms in the highlands.
Winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to northerly, reaching 25-50 km per hour in northern and central parts, and northeasterly to southeasterly, reaching 15-45 km per hour in the south.
Waves might range from 1.5 meters to more than 2 meters and the sea is likely to be choppy.
In the Arabian Gulf, winds will be easterly to southeasterly at speeds of 12-40 km per hour. Waves may range from half a meter to more than 2 meters and the sea will be calm to choppy.

Earthquake hits upper parts of Pakistan, no losses reported
ISLAMABAD: A 5-magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan early Saturday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported, with no loss of life or property reported in its wake. Tremors were felt in several cities in the northern parts of Punjab province and the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as well as the federal capital of Islamabad. The quake hit at 2:03am on Saturday, with its epicenter located in Farkhār, Afghanistan at a depth of 122.6 kilometers, the USGS reported. 'We were asleep when a sudden jolt woke us up around 2 in the morning,' Kanwal Khan, a resident of Islamabad, told Arab News on Saturday. Tremors were felt in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi and several other Pakistani cities. 'Reports of earthquake in different cities of Pakistan, including Lahore and capital Islamabad,' Dr. Ahmad Rehan Khan, a Pakistan X user, wrote in a post. 'May God protect everyone.' Several other people posted about the quake on X. There was no immediate confirmation of any losses of life or property by authorities in the wake of the earthquake.

Dust storms forecast across several Saudi regions
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia's National Center for Meteorology has forecast dust storms across several regions until the weekend. The NCM on Tuesday stated there would be hot to extremely hot and windy conditions in the Eastern Region. And dust-stirring winds in parts of the Northern Borders, Al-Jouf, Riyadh, Madinah, Makkah and Najran regions. The NCM warned that parts of Riyadh would be affected by dust storms, including active winds and reduced horizontal visibility from 3 to 5 km. The governorates of Al-Sulayyil and Wadi Al-Dawasir would be affected by dust storms in the afternoon and Al-Aflaj during the whole day. Riyadh and the governorates of Diriyah, Al-Kharj, Al-Hariq, Al-Dalam, Al-Muzahmiyya, and Hawtah Bani Tamim would also be affected by dust storms during the day. Meanwhile, the excessive heat continues in the capital with the maximum temperature recorded at 42 degrees Celsius and minimum of 30. The severe heat is expected to continue over the weekend. The NCM said winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to southwesterly at speeds of 10 to 28 kph in the northern and central parts, and westerly to northwesterly at speeds of 25 to 50 kph in the southern part. In the Arabian Gulf, winds will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds of 15 to 45 kph in the northern part, and westerly to northwesterly at speeds of 10 to 25 kph in the southern part.

Saudi weather center forecasts ‘above normal' temperatures, rainfall in July and August
JEDDAH: Expect higher temperatures in the central, northern and eastern parts of Saudi Arabia in July and August, the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has announced. In a seasonal forecast carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the meteorology center forecast a temperature increase of 1 degree Celsius above normal in parts of Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, Eastern, and Northern Borders regions, peaking in August at 1.2 degrees Celsius in Jouf, Tabuk, Qassim, Hail, and Eastern regions. NCM has also forecast higher-than-normal rainfall in Najran, Jazan, Al-Baha, and Aseer, and parts of Makkah, Madinah, and southern Riyadh and Eastern regions, particularly in July and August. The rest of the Kingdom is expected to receive normal rainfall. The Summer 2025 forecast, covering the months of June to August, was based on climatic conditions from 1991 to 2020, SPA said. According to the report, the highest maximum temperature was recorded in Jeddah on June 2010 at 52°C, while Al-Ahsa recorded 51.3°C in July 2024. Dammam and Al-Qaisumah in the eastern part of the Kingdom recorded August highs of 51°C in 1998 and 2021, respectively. For rainfall, the southwestern region of Jazan recorded the highest daily amount in August 2024 at 113 millimeters. It also held the record for July at 67.6 mm in 1995. For the month of June, Sharurah, in the southern province of Najran, recorded the highest daily amount in June 1996 at 53.8 mm.
