Today is the 81st anniversary of D-Day.
For those who don't know, on June 6, 1944, the Allied powers (including the United States) stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, leading to the beginning of the liberation of Germany and the rest of Europe from the Nazi regime.
Well, Germany's Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, recently met with President Donald Trump at the White House, and their discussion about the anniversary of D-Day has gone viral for being yet another embarrassing moment for Trump on the world stage.
In a now-viral clip seen by over 8 million people, Donald Trump made a "joke" about D-Day, telling the German Chancellor that it was "not a pleasant day for you."

"May I remind you that we are having June 6 tomorrow. This is D-Day anniversary. When the Americans once ended the war in Europe," Chancellor Merz said.

"No, it was not a pleasant — well, in the long run Mr. President, this was the liberation of my country from Nazi dictatorship," the Chancellor said, seriously.

"Sure. That's true," Trump responded.
Following Trump's remarks, many people took to social media to criticize his callousness and the fact that the sitting president seemingly did not understand the historical significance of D-Day.
"It's almost like he didn't know this," one user wrote in response to the clip.
"Trump remains an embarrassment on the world stage," one person wrote.
"When a U.S. president can't recognize the moral clarity of D-Day, liberating the world from fascism, it's not just ignorance. It's historical amnesia wrapped in his ego," another person wrote.
"That's a fucking crazy thing to say to the German chancellor."
And this person summed up the overall consensus, "The President of the United States is a fking moron."

Agency Scrutinizes Jack Smith After Republican Complaint

An agency that scrutinizes the conduct of federal employees has opened an investigation into Jack Smith, the former special counsel who investigated Donald J. Trump before he returned to office, following a request by a Republican senator. The Office of Special Counsel confirmed on Saturday that it had opened an investigation into Mr. Smith for a possible violation of the Hatch Act, a law that prohibits federal workers from using their government jobs to engage in political activity. Senator Tom Cotton, Republican of Arkansas, had asked the agency to investigate on the premise that some of Mr. Smith's actions, such as seeking quick trial dates in the two criminal cases against Mr. Trump, were designed to influence the 2024 election. The investigation, which was first reported by The New York Post, is unusual in several respects. First, the most severe penalty possible for a Hatch Act violation is dismissal from federal employment, and Mr. Smith left the government at the start of the year. Second, the type of prosecutorial decisions criticized by Mr. Cotton, Mr. Trump and others are far different from the type of cases the O.S.C. typically handles. The office traditionally investigates and addresses violations of federal rules about the civil service. The investigation comes at a time when lawyers representing fired or demoted federal employees have complained that under Mr. Trump, the O.S.C. is not fulfilling its traditional role. In February, the president dismissed the agency's head, Hampton Dellinger, despite a federal law saying that person can only be fired for 'inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance in office.' At the time, Mr. Dellinger had been arguing for the reinstatement of thousands of probationary workers who had been fired by the new administration.

'Depths Of Cringe': Critics Slam Karoline Leavitt Over 'Disgraceful' Trump Demand

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is getting put on blast after she once again demanded that President Donald Trump be given the Nobel Peace Prize. 'President Trump has brokered, on average, about one peace deal or ceasefire per month during his six months in office,' she said as she listed some of those efforts. 'It's well past time that President Trump was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.' While Trump has had his hand in some ceasefire agreements, his efforts overall have been a mixed bag. A ceasefire between Israel and Iran, for example, came only after he launched a U.S. strike on Iranian facilities. And some of the biggest conflicts have continued to rage. Trump vowed repeatedly to end the war between Russia and Ukraine on his first day in office, but the situation has only worsened. He's also promised to end the war in Gaza, but Israel's assault in response to the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attacks has continued, and the humanitarian crisis has escalated. Trump has instead complained that he didn't get a 'thank you' from Gaza for sending money intended for food aid. But Leavitt's demand is in line with Trump's longtime grievance over the award. He's complained repeatedly about not getting one during his previous term in office, insisting that he should have had 'four or five' of them by now. And he really doesn't like that President Barack Obama was awarded one. Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had nominated Trump for the honor in a move many observers believed was just a blatant attempt to curry favor. As a result, Leavitt's critics fired back with a number of facts about her boss. Some also noted that she seemed to pronounce 'Nobel' as 'noble,' which, ironically, is how Trump himself has spelled the name of the prize in the past. And a few compared her over-the-top praise for her boss to North Korean propaganda.
