Yogi Adityanath
's order to transform the city into a sporting hub, the city's development authority has decided to construct an international-standard shooting range across 10 acres in Newari.
"A meeting was held to discuss the prospect of establishing a shooting range in Newari, where the GDA has earmarked 10 acres of land. The shooting range will also include a running track and hostels for athletes," said Atul Vats, chairperson of the GDA.
The CM, during his recent district visit, also announced that the Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) would develop a cricket stadium.

Vats added that the international cricket stadium in Morti, which was earlier to be taken up by the BCCI, will now be developed by the GDA as directed by the CM.
As per the original plan, the stadium will be developed for Rs 450 crore on 31 acres of land and will have a seating capacity of 55,000.
Earlier in April this year, the state's expenditure finance committee, under the state smart city project, approved a budget of Rs 108 crore for a multi-purpose sports complex in the city, which will host 22 indoor and outdoor sports.
The complex, spread over 48,000 sqm in Nandgram, will seat 750 people and have parking for 400 vehicles. It will include six tennis courts, nine badminton courts, two squash courts, basketball courts, semi-Olympic swimming pools, box cricket, a cricket practice pitch, and other facilities, which will be capable of hosting national-level tournaments. Construction and Design Services will develop the complex, and from the date of tendering, it is expected to be ready in 18 months.

Did Ravindra Jadeja Break BCCI Rules To Help Team India Dominate England At Edgbaston?
In a move that raised eyebrows but ultimately earned respect, Ravindra Jadeja arrived early at Edgbaston on Day 3 of the second Test against England, breaching the BCCI's recently updated standard operating procedures (SOPs). While players are mandated to arrive together on the team bus, Jadeja chose to come in solo — not for convenience, but to squeeze in valuable extra batting practice before resuming his innings on 41. Given India's collapse in the previous Test at Headingley, his motivation was crystal clear: avoid another top-order failure. 'I felt if I can see the new ball off, it would become easy for the rest of the innings,' Jadeja explained post-stumps. The gamble paid off handsomely. Resuming at 310 for 5 on a flat Edgbaston pitch with the second new ball just five overs old, Jadeja and captain Shubman Gill stitched together a game-defining 203-run partnership. While Gill was the showstopper with a historic 269 — the highest Test score by an Indian on English soil — Jadeja was the silent architect, absorbing pressure and expertly guiding the innings forward. Jadeja's 89 off 137 deliveries wasn't flashy but deeply significant. It ensured India batted England out of the game, eventually posting a mammoth 587. His sword celebration remained sheathed, but his presence at the crease carved a deeper mark on the match narrative. Breaking Protocol, Not Discipline While Jadeja's early arrival could be viewed as a violation of team SOPs, the BCCI is unlikely to impose sanctions. According to the updated code, exceptions are allowed with prior approval from the head coach or selection committee chairman — a nuance that provides Jadeja cover. More importantly, his intentions were beyond reproach. It wasn't a luxury detour or solo indulgence — it was a senior pro prioritizing team needs. In the words of Jadeja, 'When you contribute with the bat for the team, especially overseas, it gives you confidence. This was a challenge, and I took it.' Stokes vs Jadeja: Sparks Fly at the Centre Drama unfolded when England skipper Ben Stokes repeatedly complained to the umpires about Jadeja allegedly running into the danger area on the pitch after playing front-foot shots. While such movements can create rough patches aiding spin later in the game, Jadeja was quick to dismiss the claims. 'He felt I was making rough for myself… but the fast bowlers were doing it anyway,' said Jadeja, maintaining his actions were unintentional. Regardless, the incident added a layer of spice to an already intense contest, reflecting the competitiveness both camps are bringing to this high-stakes series.

By stumps on Day 2 of the second Test, England found themselves staring at a mountain, reeling at 77 for 3, still trailing by 510 runs. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Gill's monumental 269 was not just a career-best - it was a statistical spectacle that obliterated long-standing Indian records in overseas Tests. In only his second Test as captain, Gill surpassed legends such as Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar, compiling a catalogue of elite milestones in one extraordinary knock. "I worked on a few things before the series," Gill said after the day's play. "Looking at the results, they are working for me." Yashasvi Jaiswal press conference: On Shubman Gill, confusion in India team selection and more Here are the major records smashed by captain Gill in Birmingham: * Highest by an Indian captain in Tests Gill's 269 now stands as the highest score by an Indian Test captain, overtaking Kohli's unbeaten 254 against South Africa in 2019. From The Hindu, July 4, 1975: Connors, Ashe to meet in finals
London, July 3: Defending champion Jimmy Cornors and Arthur Ashe won their semi-finals in the nearly Rs. 19.6 lakhs Wimbledon tennis championships to-day and became the first Americans to meet in the finals since Jack Kramer beat Tom Brown way back in 1947. Top seed Connors in a display of tennis mastery that awed the capacity of 15,000 in Centre Court tamed Roscoe Tanner's 140 mile-an-hour service with a dazzling display of ground strokes and beat him in 75 minutes 6-4, 6-1, 6-4. In the other semi-final, sixth seeded Ashe beat Australia's 16th seed, Torry Roche, in a comparatively tedious two hour and 50 minute marathon 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, 8-9, 6-4. Connors, an overwhelming favourite to beat Ashe, now is better than even money to become the first champion since 1938 to win the singles without the loss of a set.
