Asim Munir claims assertions that Pakistan received external support during four-day conflict with India 'incorrect'
In an address to the graduating officers at the National Defence University Islamabad, Gen. Munir reiterated that any misadventure or attempt to undermine Pakistan's sovereignty will be met with a swift, and resolute response without any constraints or inhibitions.
"Insinuations regarding external support in Pakistan's successful Operation Bunyanum Marsoos are irresponsible and factually incorrect and reflect a chronic reluctance to acknowledge indigenous capability and institutional resilience developed over decades of strategic prudence,' he said.
'Naming other states as participants in the purely bilateral military conflagration is also a shoddy attempt at playing camp politics...," he said.
His comments came days after Indian Army's Deputy Chief Lt Gen Rahul R. Singh suggested that Beijing provided active military support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor using the conflict as a 'live lab' to test various weapon systems.
Addressing a seminar in Delhi last week, Gen. Singh said while Pakistan was the "front face", with China extending all possible support to its all-weather ally, Turkiye was also playing a major role by supplying military hardware to Islamabad, adding that India was actually dealing with at least three adversaries during the May 7-10 conflict.
Gen. Munir claimed that in contrast to India's strategic behaviour resting on "parochial self-alignment", Pakistan has forged lasting partnerships based on principled diplomacy, anchored in mutual respect and peace, establishing itself to be a stabilizer in the region.
'Any attempt to target our population centres, military bases, economic hubs and ports will instantly invoke a deeply hurting and more than reciprocal response," Gen. Munir said.
He added that wars are not won through media rhetoric, imported fancy hardware, or political sloganeering, but through faith, professional competence, operational clarity, institutional strength and national resolve.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in territories occupied by Pakistan in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes that ended with an understanding on stopping the military actions on May 10.
New Delhi has been maintaining that India's fierce counterattack that day forced Pakistan to plead for ending the hostilities.

What do you have to say about the Opposition's uproar over Bihar voter rolls revision? The Opposition has got the right to ask questions, including occasionally creating ruckus as well. But how long will it continue? (LoP, Lok Sabha) Rahul Gandhi says he is not being allowed to speak but his party is in the forefront of creating a complete chaos in the House. Why is Congress and the Opposition shying away from a debate on any issue? Today is the third day. We go and sit and come back. It is agonising, painful and disgusting, to say the least. The whole nation watches us. You can question us in any powerful debate and make us uncomfortable, and we are equally competent to reply to all your debates to make you uncomfortable. Why don't you allow the debate to happen? And then you complain — 'meri awaaz shaant ki jaati hai (my voice is being silenced)'. Why is the debate not being taken up? The larger question is: are they interested in debate? Every debate has to be structured as per Parliamentary rules. Has 16 hours not been allocated for the Operation Sindoor debate, with nine hours in the Rajya Sabha? That is the way the House functions. Saudi Arabia has long been regarded as a strong ally of the US. However, in recent years, it has appeared to forge stronger ties with China. The US has reconfigured its efforts to engage with Saudi Arabia by offering NATO-like security arrangements in return for Saudi Arabia's recognition of Israel. While speaking to a researcher specializing in Middle East affairs at China's Northwest University stated, 'One of the reasons why Saudi Arabia prefers western weapons over its Chinese equivalent is because Chinese weapons have not seen combat in recent years.' Furthermore, he stated, 'This may change now that the Chinese-made J-10 fighter jet has drawn its first blood.' What Deal Has China Offered? Saudi Arabia has consistently relied on the United States for both its security needs and the sustainability of its petrodollars-driven economy. Due to this, Saudi Arabia remained one of the largest defense buyers of America. However, in recent years, there has been tension in the relationship between the two countries. During Joe Biden's presidency, the U.S. appeared willing to distance itself from Saudi Arabia, most notably by stopping support for its fight against Houthi rebels; even though, at Washington's request, Saudi Arabia had created a military coalition against the Houthis. The U.S. further stressed the relationship by removing air defense systems from the Middle East in order to bolster European security because of the situation with Russia. Consequently, Saudi Arabia has sought alternative partners for defense cooperation to lessen its reliance on Washington. Meanwhile, turning fully away from the dependency on Washington and towards China is still complicated. Seeing an opening, China's intensification in its outreach has included offers of military equipment (i.e., ballistic missiles, drones, howitzers, and air defense systems), at competitive prices and unconditional options. So far, however, Saudi Arabia has exported most of its new defense systems from the United States. In May, the United States and Saudi Arabia finalized a $142 billion arms deal that the White House declared was the 'largest defense sales agreement in history.' The agreement was completed during President Donald Trump's visit to the Kingdom; this visit was the first stop on a four-day tour of the Gulf. It was the first example of the transactional nature of the foreign policy pursued by Trump.
