Brian Kelly Gives Honest Reaction to Reports of Nick Saban Returning To College Football originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
As rumors of Nick Saban potentially returning to coaching continue to circulate, LSU coach Brian Kelly made his stance clear, and his comments stood in stark contrast to the skepticism shared by others in the college football world.

Speaking about the speculation, Kelly offered nothing but praise for the former Alabama coach.
'It'd be better for college football if Nick Saban is coaching. Period,' Kelly said. 'There's nobody better to develop players and certainly build championship programs. It'd be a great day if he was back in it.'
Kelly's comments came in response to a recent report from former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy, who floated the idea that Saban might not be entirely done with coaching. The former Crimson Tide quarterback-turned-college football analyst attempted to dispel the notion that Saban could return.

'A very much in-the-know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around and just really, really admire,' McElroy said. 'They seem to think Nick Saban's not done coaching. I had a similar reaction. He's pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Saban will be coaching again.
"Look, if it weren't someone notable, I'd never say a word.'
That theory was quickly dismissed by longtime SEC analyst Paul Finebaum, who recently appeared on the "McElroy & Cubelic In The Morning" podcast and said he doesn't see Saban returning to the sideline anytime soon.
'No,' Finebaum said when asked if a comeback was possible, adding that Saban is currently enjoying retirement, spending time in Florida, playing golf, and earning a substantial income in his new role as an ESPN College GameDay analyst.

According to Finebaum, Saban has found peace and balance in post-coaching life and is unlikely to pursue another coaching opportunity, especially given that he left what may have been the best job in college football.
Despite Finebaum's belief that Saban is content, Kelly's comments reflect the broader respect Saban still commands across the sport. The seven-time national champion, who retired in January 2024, transformed Alabama into a perennial powerhouse and remains a defining figure in college football history.
Whether or not Saban ever returns, it's clear coaches like Kelly still see immense value in what he brought, and could still bring, to the game.

Micah Parsons Sends Cowboys Blunt Message on Contract Negotiation Standoff

Micah Parsons Sends Cowboys Blunt Message on Contract Negotiation Standoff originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Cowboys continue to negotiate with superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons on a contract extension that could end up the richest deal for any defender in NFL history. Advertisement Dallas doesn't have to reach an agreement with the 26-year-old phenom this summer, as he is entering the fifth-year team option on his rookie contract in 2025. The Cowboys could even stretch out negotiations beyond next spring/summer via the franchise tag provision if they decide waiting on a longterm deal is in their best interests. But the fact remains that the longer the team waits, the more it's going to have to pay. Parsons spoke about his contract negotiations on Tuesday, July 15, following a football camp he hosted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He added that he's not pouting or planning to take his foot off the gas just because Dallas is playing hardball and taking its time getting a deal done. "I just work harder. Like, to me, I look at it like if people don't see your value, you don't cry and sit down. You just work harder," Parsons continued. "You got to show people your value." Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Lange/USA TODAY NETWORK The common projections from top NFL insiders, including ESPN's Adam Schefter, have Parsons eventually signing a deal worth in excess of $40 million annually -- most likely on a contract spanning either four or five seasons. Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns inked a four-year, $160 million agreement earlier this offseason, which made him the most recent highest-paid defensive player in league history. Advertisement Parsons is a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro. He has tallied 112 quarterback hits, 63 tackles for loss and 52.5 sacks across 63 games played. He has missed a total of just five contests over his four-year career. Parsons won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 and has finished in the top three in Defensive Player of the Year voting three times (second twice and third once). Texas' Arch Manning Makes Bold 2026 NFL Draft Statement

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Whether or not Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning enters the 2026 NFL draft or stays in school is arguably the biggest question looming over the 2025 college football season. The redshirt sophomore signal-caller got a small taste of being an SEC starting QB last season when starter Quinn Ewers, who's since been drafted by the Miami Dolphins, went down with an abdominal injury. In six appearances, Manning threw for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 108 yards and another four scores. He even led Texas to its first SEC win as a member of the conference in a Sept. 28 win over Mississippi State — a game in which he had 325 yards passing with two touchdowns plus 33 yards rushing and another score. And while the buzz surrounding Manning as he heads into his first year as a full-time starter couldn't be any higher — he's considered by many to be a Heisman Trophy frontrunner — the 21-year-old passer held his composure as he dodged a question he's sure to be asked many times between now and Jan. 15 (the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NFL draft), admitting next year's draft isn't even on his radar right now. More College Football: Nick Saban Could Leave 'College GameDay' for Coaching Job: Report Arch Manning #16 of the Texas Longhorns warms up prior to the game against the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2024 SEC Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on December 7, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. Arch Manning #16 of the Texas Longhorns warms up prior to the game against the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2024 SEC Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on December 7, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia."I'm really just worried about getting through this interview and then getting through the run tomorrow," Manning said during SEC Media Days on Tuesday, via Pro Football Talk. "I'm just focused on this year and getting better each day." There's plenty of pressure on Manning to deliver in taking over for Ewers, who 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns and 24 interceptions while leading Texas to a 21-4 record with back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff semifinals. There were many calls for Manning to leapfrog Ewers last season and take over the starting role as Texas narrowly squeaked past Texas A&M 17-7 on Nov. 30 and suffered a 22-19 overtime defeat to Georgia the following week in the SEC Championship Game. More Football: Vikings Hit With Troubling J.J. McCarthy Prediction But Manning admitted that he was a little uncomfortable being Ewers' backup with so many people petitioning head coach Steve Sarkisian to move Manning into the QB1 role — a position he didn't feel he'd earned. "You've got to walk the walk first," Manning said, via The Athletic. "As much as it wasn't always fun sitting the first two years, I've got a lot of respect for my teammates who were playing. Now I come at it from a place of love, not just being a turd." While Manning has stated in the past he plans to stay all four years at Texas before turning pro, some analysts are convinced if he starts putting up Heisman numbers, he might be too tempted to pass up being drafted No. 1 overall.

Fever Coach Stephanie White's Blunt Response to Exciting Caitlin Clark News

Fever Coach Stephanie White's Blunt Response to Exciting Caitlin Clark News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Looking for their third straight win, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever visited Boston to take on coach Stephanie White's former team, the Connecticut Sun, on Tuesday at TD Garden. Advertisement In her second WNBA season, Clark has seen a drop in her scoring production from last year, averaging 16.7 points on 37.4% shooting, 4.8 rebounds and 9.0 assists per game. She is also having one of the worst 3-point shooting seasons of her career, averaging just 28.9% through 12 games. But a three-game stretch before Clark's groin injury may have cost her total average. From June 19-24, she shot 1-of-23 from distance, good for 4.3%. Still, despite the recent shooting woes, Clark accepted an invite to perform in the 3-point contest at the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend, which will be held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (Indianapolis). The former Iowa star notably did not participate in 2024. When asked about Clark playing in the 3-point contest, White shared her response. Advertisement "She doesn't need any pointers from me," White said. "No, we haven't talked about it. In fact, I saw it on the news. But, I mean, I'm happy that she's doing it. Certainly, in the state of Indiana and Indianapolis, so it's a great opportunity to continue to showcase what she does best to our fans and WNBA All-Star fans." Along with Clark, four other WNBA stars will be participating in the 3-point contest. Those include Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron, Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray, New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu and Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum. The 2025 WNBA 3-point shootout will take place on Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET, before the All-Star game the following day. After Tuesday's game, the Fever will have one final battle before the big weekend, facing the Liberty on Wednesday.
