Ben Roethlisberger believes 2025 will be Aaron Rodgers's last year

Yahoo14-06-2025
This year, Aaron Rodgers will become the latest successor to Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh. And Roethlisberger believes it will be a one-year arrangement.
'I don't think he's got much more after this year,' Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, via Andrew Vasquez of USA Today. 'I think this might be it for him — personally. I have no reason — you could ask, 'Well, how do you know?' I don't know. I'm just guessing in terms of you coming off an Achilles [tear]. Coming off my elbow [injury], my first year back I felt like I was 100. I wasn't even — you don't realize you're not 100 until the next year when you are 100.'

Rodgers started all 17 games in 2024, a year after suffering a torn Achilles tendon on the fourth play of the first game of the season.
'He's going to feel better, but it doesn't mean that he's going to have two or three years left," Roethlisberger said. "I think this might be his last go."
Roethlisberger is hardly going out on a limb. Not many quarterbacks have played deep into their 40s. Rodgers turns 42 in December. (Roethlisberger retired at 39.)
While he hasn't said it, Rodgers's main objective seems to be authoring a final chapter that has a better ending than his two-year detour to New York. For him, making the playoffs would do the trick.
For the Steelers, winning a playoff game seems to be the bare minimum to make the experiment a success. That's something the team didn't do in any of Roethlisberger's five final seasons in football — or in the three since he retired.

Ex-Steelers CB signs with Miami Dolphins

Minkah Fitzpatrick isn't the only former Pittsburgh defender heading to Miami — ex-Steelers CB Mike Hilton has signed with the Dolphins as training camps continue around the NFL. ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news on Saturday, reporting that Hilton's agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, indicated the former Steelers slot cornerback signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins. Hilton spent the last four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before hitting the open market this offseason. During his time in Pittsburgh from 2017 to 2020, Hilton produced seven interceptions, 9.5 sacks, and 237 combined tackles — proving himself a versatile, high-impact player from the slot. Along with Hilton, Miami also signed CB Jack Jones — a pair of much-needed moves after Dolphins CB Artie Burns tore his ACL and undrafted free agent CB BJ Adams was carted off the field at training camp. Steelers will induct Ben Roethlisberger, Joey Porter Sr., Maurkice Pouncey into their Hall of Honor

The Steelers announced plans to honor three former members of the team during the 2025 season. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, linebacker Joey Porter Jr., and center Maurkice Pouncey will be inducted into the team's Hall of Honor during their Monday night game against the Dolphins on December 15. 'It's special,' Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a statement. 'Just to welcome a group of guys that mean so much to Steelers football, mean so to our fans. These three guys made a difference for us over the course of their careers. This group is a pretty special group and belong in there with the rest of them.' Roethlisberger won two Super Bowls during an 18-year run with the team that started when they selected him with the 11th overall pick of the 2004 draft. He is the franchise leader in all significant passing categories and will be eligible to be voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2027. Porter was a 1999 third-round pick who had 60 sacks and won a Super Bowl in eight seasons with the Steelers. His son Joey is now a Steelers cornerback and the Hall of Honor announcement came on the younger Porter's 25th birthday. Pouncey started 134 regular season games and eight playoff games after the Steelers took him in the first round in 2010. He was a two-time All-Pro selection during his time in Pittsburgh.
