Ben Roethlisberger reacts to Steelers Hall of Honor selection alongside two legends
Three Pittsburgh legends are heading into the Steelers Hall of Honor: Joey Porter Sr., Maurkice Pouncey, and Ben Roethlisberger — and the future Hall of Fame quarterback couldn't be more excited. On Saturday, Roethlisberger shared his honest feelings on the Hall of Honor selection — thrilled to share the moment with one of his closest friends and teammates in Pouncey. "When Art called early in the week, I was humbled,' Roethlisberger told Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. 'You never want to assume anything. It means a lot, the tradition of this team and the people on this wall. To have my name included with them is special. "That probably means as much going in with [Pouncey]. Other than Heath Miller, I can't imagine going in with anyone better.' Roethlisberger's bond with Pouncey goes beyond what happened on the field — and for the legendary Steelers quarterback, there's no greater feeling than being acknowledged alongside the offensive lineman who kept him upright for 10 seasons. Former NFL GM trashes Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger
In 2027, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And he will go in on the first ballot. Roethlisberger has two Super Bowl Championships, was Rookie of the Year, and led the NFL in passing yards twice. Roethlisberger was almost never the best quarterback in the NFL during his time, primarily because of a guy named Tom Brady who dominated the league. Nevertheless, Roethlisberger is the greatest statistical quarterback in franchise history. But former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum decided, while talking on ESPN First Take, to throw some serious disrespect at Roethlisberger in comparing him to some of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Tannebaum said in a group that included Roethlisberger, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert and Jordon Love. Tannenbaum said that he wouldn't take Big Ben over either of the other four. "I look at more from a GM perspective of if we were drafting them," Tannenbaum said. "I'll give you Eli Manning in '04, but if Ben Roethlisberger was in a group with Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, and Jordan Love, I'm not sure I'm taking Ben over any of those guys. And that's where I think '04 is a little top heavy." On paper, we can concede if things continue as they are, Hurts and Burrow could both end up with better careers. They both have incredible talent around them, and organizations are committed to winning with them as the focal point. But for Tannenbaum to lump in Herbert and Love is mind-numbing. Then I remembered, Tannenbaum's most memorable pick as a general manager was quarterback Mark Sanchez, whom he took No. 5 overall in a trade up, so take his quarterback analysis with a grain of salt.

Doug Whaley: Steelers could have drafted Aaron Rodgers in 2005
Twenty years after he was drafted by the Packers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a Steeler. He could have been a Steeler 20 years ago. Appearing on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, former Steelers pro personnel director Doug Whaley said that, as Rodgers plunged through the first round, the Steelers were watching the situation. Advertisement 'We wouldn't have had to [trade up],' Whaley said, via Nick Farabaugh of 'We would've just sat there. We had him higher than that. We were surprised he was slipping.' The Packers ended the slide at No. 24. The Steelers didn't pick that year until No. 30. (They took tight end Heath Miller.) If Rodgers had been on the board at No. 30, what would the Steelers have done? They'd used a first-round pick in 2004 on quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who helped the team to a 15-1 record and a berth in the AFC Championship. Rodgers is the objectively better passer. But Roethlisberger won two Super Bowls. But Rodgers beat Roethsliberger in a Super Bowl. Advertisement And in the first Super Bowl won by the Steelers since the 1979 season, Roethlisberger didn't have a stellar day. He completed nine of 21 passes for 123 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions in the 21-10 win over the Seahawks. (He also rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts.) What would Rodgers have done in Pittsburgh, as a rookie and beyond? We'll never know. But we will know how he does in 2025, four years after Roethlisberger retired.

Former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger roasts Cleveland on podcast
Up until 2017, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was the winningest quarterback in the NFL at Cleveland Browns stadium. Let that one sink in a little. Even to this day, Roethlisberger's 12 wins in Cleveland has his tied for the second-most wins with Joe Flacco and trailing only Baker Mayfield. With that level of ownership of an opposing stadium, we are fine with Roethlisberger roasting the Browns when he gets the opportunity. And Big Ben did just that recently on his Footbahlin' with Ben Podcast. The topic came up of whether or not Roethlisberber could have ever played for the Browns. And while Roethlisberger did have some nice things to say about the team and the city he did have one big hangup that would have kept him away from Cleveland. It'd be hard to fit into Cleveland, because I win," Roethlisberger said. During his career, Roethlisberger took on the Browns 29 times. His career record against Cleveland is an impressive 26-2-1.
