This Australian island is looking for people to babysit Tasmanian devils this winter
Having all your travel expenses covered for these once-in-a-lifetime opportunities sounds almost too good to be true, and that's because it kind of is. Only ten Aussies will be chosen for these exclusive winter jobs, designed to turn even the biggest sun-seekers into bona fide 'winter people'. Fun fact: Tourism Tasmania found that only one-third of Aussies currently call themselves that.
Our favourite role is the devil sitter gig at Devils@Cradle, where the lucky wintern will clock in at a cool 4pm to keep an eye on the cheeky little devils, who'd rather pull an all-nighter than nap through their social lives. Maybe steer clear of the bedtime kisses, as they've got some pretty sharp teeth.
Animal lovers can throw their hat in the ring to be a goat doofer at Hideaway Farmlet in Penguin (yep, that's legit the name of the town), where they'll be tasked with putting on a mini music festival for a herd of vibe-seeking goats. Honestly, this could be the first goat bush doof in the world! Meanwhile, Borradale Stanley is hiring a calf concierge to stay on maternity watch in case of any grand calf arrivals. You'll be on bottle-feeding duty, too!
Those who crave warmth can apply to be a sauna skipper at Kuuma Nature Sauna, where you'll be responsible for keeping Australia's first fully mobile sauna pontoon boat nice and toasty. And for those fearless of heights, there's the scenic seat-warmer role at the famous Cataract Gorge Scenic Chairlift – so get those butts ready for some serious defrosting!
Other jobs up for grabs include as a fragrance forager at Undersong Perfumery; a splinter specialist at Huon Pine Shop and Creative Paper Tasmania; a tunnel-to-table taster at the award-winning Tunnel Hill Mushrooms; a barrel butler at Australia's southernmost distillery, McHenry Distillery; or a trail trialler at Blue Derby Pods Ride.
Think you've got what it takes? You can apply for one of these ten winternships from May 27 to June 17 via the Discover Tasmania website. All you need to do is tell them in 50 words or less why you want to become a winter person. The lucky winterns will have all their travel expenses covered and will also score a selection of Tasmania's best seasonal produce and goods, handpicked by their hosts. You can find out more here.

This little Greek taverna-style restaurant has views of a gorgeous Sydney beach – plus a Euro summer happy hour
It's global knowledge by now that Bondi Beach is packed 24/7, 365 days a year. While many will say it's overrated, there's no denying the stretch of azul blue water is a sight to behold. Skip the crowds (and Bondi Rescue cameras) with a seat perched high up on Campbell Parade at Ikaria. Walking into the gorgeously decked-out space feels like you've stepped onto the shores of the real Ikaria island itself, and given how spenny flights are over to Greece (seriously, how are so many of our Instagram followers over there right now?), we reckon it's the next best thing. It opened in 2021 when co-owner Joaquin Saez (ex-cho cho san) hoped to bring a bit of Greece to Bondi given Aussies couldn't fly over post-pandemic. If the earthy terracotta cushions, clay pots tucked in the wall's nooks, archways and rattan furniture don't scream Mediterranean enough, the menu will. It's packed with light, fresh dishes designed to share with your friends and fam. There's plenty of seafood to go around, like salty-sweet kingfish crudo, fried calamari with a generous scoop of tzatziki for dipping, vinegary octopus salad, grilled king prawns and a market fish with tomatoes and peppers. Of course, it's not a Greek offering without souvlakia. At Ikaria, you can opt for mustard-lemon chicken or harissa mushroom. While the joint is a great spot for a refreshing lunch after completing the Coogee to Bondi walk (bonus points for soaking up that bluer-than-blue view), the evening is where it's at. During wintertime, you can score happy hour Spritzes for just a tenner. Pair it with warm fluffy pitas and dip for $15 and Stavros is your uncle.

Tasmanian truffle feast at Harbourside
Get ready to fill your belly this summer at Regent Hong Kong's waterfront restaurant, Harbourside. From now until August 31, the hotel's dining venue is offering a jaw-dropping spread of dishes generously topped with Tasmanian black truffles. Begin by nibbling on starters like deviled eggs, buffalo mozzarella salad, or asparagus and parmesan salad, all consisting of fragrant black truffles. As for mains, guests can feast on indulgent entrées such as roasted crispy porchetta, truffle-topped potato pizza, mac and cheese, and even truffle mushroom risotto prepared in a Parmesan wheel at the restaurant's live station. Harbourside's truffle-infused experience even continues into dessert, featuring ice cream, bonbons, and macarons, all expertly crafted by executive pastry chef Andy Yeung and his team.

Urgent travel warning issued to Aussies: What you need to know before you book flights to Cambodia and Thailand
The Australian government has updated its travel advice for Cambodia and Thailand, amid growing armed conflict between the two countries. Weeks of tension over a border dispute between the south-east Asian neighbours escalated into deadly clashes that killed at least 12 people on Thursday. It comes after Thailand recalled its ambassador to Cambodia and planned to expel Cambodia's envoy in Bangkok, after a second Thai soldier in the space of a week lost a limb to a landmine. Aussie tourists heading to provinces near the 800km-long border have been warned to reconsider their travel. The Department of Foreign Affairs' Smartraveller website was updated on Thursday night to reflect the concerning developments. Impacted Cambodian provinces include Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey, where there are a number of famous temples popular with foreign tourists. 'We now advise to reconsider your need to travel to the border areas of the northern and north-western provinces,' Smartraveller states. 'Armed conflict between Thai and Cambodian military forces along the Thai-Cambodian border has increased. 'This includes reports of military strikes, violence, and the use of landmines in the border areas.' Tourists are urged to follow the advice of authorities, monitor local media for updates, and pay close attention to their personal security. Land border crossing points along the Thai-Cambodian border remain closed. Aussies should exercise normal safety precautions in other parts of Cambodia. Aussies travelling to the Thai provinces of Buriram, Si Saket, Surin and Ubon Ratchathani should also reconsider plans. 'We've reviewed our advice for Thailand and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution overall,' Smartraveller added. 'Border crossing points along the Thai-Cambodian border continue to be closed at short notice.'
